Family bbq, we usually host but my sister has moved and wanted to host at her house instead.
Myself and DH love hosting and make sure that there are plenty of snacks, food and drink for everyone.
DS said that we had to bring our own drink which is absolutely fine with me as I know that can be very costly to cater for everyone, I offered to bring a dish but she said that they had food sorted out.
Just to clarify my DS has no money worries as her and her DH both have well paying jobs so I was surprised to be served 2 hotdogs and that was it. 2 sausages and 2 buns each, nothing more. No dessert, snacks or anything other than that.
Would you think this is an acceptable bbq and portion per person?

More choice definitely. I always do red onion and halloumi skewers, burgers, sausages and two salads. Simple, but enough choice.

Did they want you to bring your own drinks in the hopes you'd get drunk enough to not notice how shit of a BBQ it was going to be.

I will never understand the point in hosting friends/family if you aren’t going to do things ‘properly’ and have a nice spread of food, drinks etc so that everyone can actually enjoy themselves. 2 hotdogs is a joke

I wouldn't turn up to a BBQ without some food to contribute to it even if the host said they had enough and I wouldn't even contemplate going without bringing some wine or beer.

That's a really terrible bbq.

A decent bbq needs both bigger variety and more individual items, providing enough that you can be confident that there will definitely be leftovers once everyone is stuffed to the gills.

Tomato Ketchup and bbq sauce were the sauce options, I'm glad that I asked as I would never want to come across ungrateful but I think we will carry on hosting from now on.

Sounds totally like my DB and SIL 😂 they serve hot dogs no side salad, no veg, no chicken, no burgers and guests have to bring drinks, desserts. Needless to say they eat a ton when at someone else’s and always try and pack up thr leftovers even when not offered. They are just shit hosts!
