To think that this portion for an adult is too little?

Family bbq, we usually host but my sister has moved and wanted to host at her house instead.
Myself and DH love hosting and make sure that there are plenty of snacks, food and drink for everyone.
DS said that we had to bring our own drink which is absolutely fine with me as I know that can be very costly to cater for everyone, I offered to bring a dish but she said that they had food sorted out.
Just to clarify my DS has no money worries as her and her DH both have well paying jobs so I was surprised to be served 2 hotdogs and that was it. 2 sausages and 2 buns each, nothing more. No dessert, snacks or anything other than that.
Would you think this is an acceptable bbq and portion per person?

I have never been served a frankfurter at a BBQ. It's always standard pork sausages in a finger roll and referred to as a hotdog.

Exactly. I have been to many private and community bbqs and hot dogs have always been normal sausages in a finger roll.

Hot dog refers to the contents of the bread roll, not the bread roll itself.

My mother also calls regular sausages in a long roll 'hot dogs', but that's because she's an appalling snob who wouldn't entertain the idea of having something so common as a frankfurter in the house. I like a bratwurst, myself 😊

I've never ever been to a bbq where a normal sausage, served in a finger roll has been called anything other than a hotdog.

Funnily enough we had the same yesterday. Sister sent a pic of the 3 food items she’d bought, burgers, pork belly strips and beef kebabs. No bread, no salad, no crisps, no dips, no sausages.

We took loads with us, and looking back Christmas is the same when they host a games night.

We definitely over cater, but I would hate to be that place that people go home hungry from.

It’s hard people they like to host, so we’ll just make sure we always plan to bring a lot in future

It’s technically enough food, it’s just pish hosting. She should have let everyone bring a plate like you offered to if she wasn’t going to make the effort.
