To think husband is being unreasonable? a bra is not taboo/inappropriate

I get dressed in the bathroom each morning after a shower. The night before I lay my clothes out on the radiator in the bathroom, including my bra so that they are warm when the heating comes on after I get out of the shower.

My husband had removed my bra this morning when he got up before me and put it in our room. When I asked why he said it was inappropriate because teen stepchild in the house so not right to leave it "lying around"...

Am I unreasonable to think this is really ridiculous? It's just a piece of clothing that 99% of women wear every day. It's not sexual it's a bloody bra. Not like I left a flipping vibrator lying around the bathroom?!

What a moron.

TheFlis · 04/05/2024 16:24

I assume it’s a boy given you didn’t say? I think a lot of teen boys would be embarrassed by seeing their stepmothers underwear regardless of how normal it is.

Boopear · 04/05/2024 16:24

What a twat. I currently have mine all lined up on my very overlooked washing line. Quelle horreur 😱

ReallyUAreAnElegantChap · 04/05/2024 16:24

YANBU - are you asked to keep your sanpro hidden as well?!

However, my dh leaves his clothes out in the hallway/dinning room for the next day and it does annoy me that the house feels like a laundry all the time.

MonsteraMama · 04/05/2024 16:24

He's being a prat. Nothing inappropriate about a bra at all, and the idea of a toasty bra in the morning is wonderful.

welshycake · 04/05/2024 16:24

Is it a teen step son? If so then yeah they get weirded out by this sort of thing

GreigeO · 04/05/2024 16:26

You think teenage boys don’t think bras are sexual?

brabrablacksheep · 04/05/2024 16:27

Yes it's a stepson... who is never too embarrassed not to leave his dirty underwear on the bathroom floor after a shower for someone else to move!

Regardless though, it's a perfectly normal piece of clothing. Why make it seem embarrassing/ taboo. It's literally just a bra...

Is it possible that the teen has said something to their dad?

Mamette · 04/05/2024 16:28

I don’t think you should have to hide your bra per se.

But I wouldn’t like anyone leaving their underwear on the radiator in the communal bathroom all night. I don’t know why exactly. No rational reason.

A straight stepson? I think its right to help prevent any weird feelings he may have about breasts.

BobbyBiscuits · 04/05/2024 16:28

Haha. You should turn round to him and say, 'oh, don't worry darling, I think he doesn't mind. I caught him trying one on the other day. He thinks lilac is definitely his colour and I'm inclined to agree.'

Hankunamatata · 04/05/2024 16:28

Lol. My own teens are not a fan of my bra or knickers in sight. Totally mortifying was one comment. I nicely told them to get a grip

It's just underwear. Because some men/boys find them sexual doesn't mean us women should have to pretend we don't own and wear them everyday as part of normal life surely?

He is being absurd and the stepson is being set up to have all kinds of hang ups.

welshycake · 04/05/2024 16:29

It's literally just a bra... it's not though is it or Ann summers wouldn't be in business

Hankunamatata · 04/05/2024 16:30

Oh op you have to buy one of these aprons with the Bra and knickers on it 😂😂😂😂

Sanitary towels sure. Bras no.

Stressyfab · 04/05/2024 16:31

Oh no, bosom containers. The horror.

brabrablacksheep · 04/05/2024 16:31

I assure you it's not an Ann summers lingerie set. It's just a bog standard piece of underwear.

Surely helping with weird feelings is to show that they are just normal items of clothing? Not hiding them away as if they are inappropriate. Women wear bras... don't see how it's different to a pair of boxers.

That would annoy me, tbh. A bathroom - if, like in our house, it's the only one - is a communal space. I wouldn't myself, and don't appreciate anyone else draping their smalls around the bathroom the night before. It's hardly as if you're going to get hypothermia from putting on an unwanted bra. Just put it on the radiator just before you take your shower. 🤷‍♀️

He fantasies about boobs.

GrumpyPanda · 04/05/2024 16:33

Just tell your laundry shaming H that from now on, you'll be going braless at home in order to save the stepchild embarrassment. Can't very well have it both ways, can he. And also does he want you to put your tampons under lock and key?

IglesiasPiggl · 04/05/2024 16:34

I can understand why a teenage boy would be uncomfortable with seeing his stepmother's bras lying around on a regular basis. Personally I don't display my underwear round the house or on the washing line as we have 3 teenage DS who regularly have friends over and I think it's inappropriate. Could you compromise by putting your bra on the radiator but under your top?

Huh?
Tesco and M&S also sell bras
Anne Summers sells a lot more that bras....and not every day one's!
