To think husband is being unreasonable? a bra is not taboo/inappropriate

I get dressed in the bathroom each morning after a shower. The night before I lay my clothes out on the radiator in the bathroom, including my bra so that they are warm when the heating comes on after I get out of the shower.

My husband had removed my bra this morning when he got up before me and put it in our room. When I asked why he said it was inappropriate because teen stepchild in the house so not right to leave it "lying around"...

Am I unreasonable to think this is really ridiculous? It's just a piece of clothing that 99% of women wear every day. It's not sexual it's a bloody bra. Not like I left a flipping vibrator lying around the bathroom?!

I can understand why a teenage boy would be uncomfortable with seeing his stepmother's bras lying around on a regular basis. Personally I don't display my underwear round the house or on the washing line as we have 3 teenage DS who regularly have friends over and I think it's inappropriate. Could you compromise by putting your bra on the radiator but under your top?

You don't put your bras on the washing line?! What about knickers? Or are breasts weirder than vulvas?

Are you my neighbour who complains constantly about my plain cotton very sensible knickers on the washing line?!?!

AssignedUnimportantAtBirth · 04/05/2024 19:19

Is your stepson's name Adrian Mole?

StarlightLady · 04/05/2024 19:21

Goodness me! Most women wear bras and he needs to get over it. My bras go outside on the line in summer for the world to see, as do my knickers. There is nothing to be ashamed of.

Out of curiosity, does he hide his pants?

sheoaouhra · 04/05/2024 19:22

I would not leave any of my underwear over the radiator in a communal bathroom, it is bad manners and will make people feel uncomfortable

Mnk711 · 04/05/2024 19:25

Has he grown up around you? If he's basically your child then I think it's OK, like your mum leaving underwear out. If he hasn't grown up with you since being a small child then I think it's inappropriate, a step parent relationship when you have met them as an older child is not the same as a parent. You don't have the same familiarity.

I think in fact you're teaching him it's OK to leave underwear lying around eg dirty boxers, I'd encourage him to be respectful of others. Either way, it it makes him uncomfortable stop doing it. Just do it immediately before you get in the shower and it will still be warm but avoid anyone else 'encountering it.

Georgyporky · 04/05/2024 19:25

I think it's odd to leave bras & pants in the bathroom - whether on the rad or the floor.

MaryFuckingFerguson · 04/05/2024 19:26

What a moron.

Woohow · 04/05/2024 19:31

tigger1001 · 04/05/2024 19:14

Because that's the only two options....

I've never got dressed in my bathroom, I do walk from the bathroom into my bedroom after my shower, and yet manage not to show my boobs. I am either wrapped in a towel or have my dressing gown on. Then get fully dried and dressed in my own room.

Ok, or walk around in nothing but a towel. Much less erotic than a glimpse of undergarments.

A straight stepson? I think its right to help prevent any weird feelings he may have about breasts.

Any relevance with his sexuality?

People uncomfortable? Are there strangers using your bathroom?

I wouldn’t do this on a daily basis if I had a step son. (And fwiw I don’t make a display of sanpro either).

A display 😆. Mine is stacked up in an exact replica of stone henge.

Yes. If he's gay he won't be wanking over tits

Minge Henge

Do tourists travel far to see it?
Then leave with a sense of disappointment?
🤪

I think if your husband has just taken it upon himself to move the bra then he is being unreasonable. Of his son has mentioned to his dad that he's uncomfortable with his step mother's underwear lying around you should respect this. Teens can be weird and awkward so no point making it worse.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 04/05/2024 19:41

Ridiculous, is your husband normally so repressed. Only a bra not like you have stockings and suspenders hanging on the radiators. Tell him to cop on. Make a makeshift line across bath tonight and put lots of bras and knickers on it. Give him something to moan about.

tigger1001 · 04/05/2024 19:44

"Ok, or walk around in nothing but a towel. Much less erotic than a glimpse of undergarments."

Well considering the towel covers me entirely yes, I woukd say so. Walking from bathroom
To bedroom is like 2 seconds.

For me though it's not about the bra as such. It's taking into consideration others needs for using the communal space in the house. We only have one bathroom and it would be pretty damned selfish to tie up that room so others couldn't use it, for getting dried and dressed - things that can be done in your own space. I also can't get dressed until my hair is dry, so again done in my own room.

Its also about talking others feelings into account, if the step son is uncomfortable why would you not get dressed in your own room?

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 04/05/2024 19:44

Why are some people saying they do not leave period pads etc out. My son has known about this from a young age as always open about everything. Men would be more understanding if they have knowledge from an earlier age and not be embarrassed about normal functions of a woman. Why are people also saying bad manners to leave a bra on a rad. I don't do it but each to their own.

bananasstink · 04/05/2024 19:46

I use the radiators in our bathroom and downstairs loo for drying pants/bras etc. I have never considered not to and my daughters 16 year old boyfriend is always here. I don't know how he survives. Also the bathroom is a communal space but only with your family or close friends really so if your leaving clothes there is it a huge problem? I can't see it

Agree with you. My son is 12 and has always known about periods. Why are we hiding it from boys

bebanjo · 04/05/2024 19:59

I think the best thing to do is get the stepson to help with the washing when he comes to stay.

BirthdayRainbow · 04/05/2024 20:03

Pogointospring · 04/05/2024 17:25

I don’t think you need to hide your underwear and if it was a washing line I’d say your DH was ridiculous. But honestly I don’t want to be brushing my teeth etc right next to a pile of someone else’s clothes on the bathroom radiator, bra or not.

Why can’t you just put the clothes on the radiator when you enter the bathroom to take a shower?

Just set the expectation that a bathroom should be left ready for the next person to use - and that also applies to him leaving his pants on the floor.

But they are just clothes. It is a pile of material. They won't bite

AntisocialPotNoodle · 04/05/2024 20:03

Won't somebody think of the children? So many people offended and uncomfortable about underwear, how repressed they must all be.

Yes!!

welshycake · 04/05/2024 20:06

I think a lot of people are seeing stepson as if they were son. It's not the same.

Limesodaagain · 04/05/2024 20:08

I think put your underwear away if you have people sharing your bathroom that are not your partner or your own children.
