AIBU to believe this is fake news, hype at best??

Indeed, some may be going to "Ireland,! and may have been doing so
for the last two years anyway.s or so.

Therefore, what was the number of migrants/boat people that went to Ireland from Jan 1st and Dec 31st in 2022 and the year ending 2023??

As I've said many times, I don't trust any politician or political party for that matter as they are on the whole, in it for themselves.

Message to Rishi Sunak, PM - Please give us the numbers. (I bet you it is no different to what was happening previously)

Rishi Sunak says migrants going to Ireland shows Rwanda scheme is working as a deterrent

Ireland's deputy prime minister has said migrants who arrived in the UK on small boats are crossing from Northern Ireland to the Republic. Speaking to Sky's Trevor Phillips, Rishi Sunak says that it shows the deterrent is working.

Well it’s the Irish government that are considering suing because they believe 80% of recent illegal immigrants have come over the border from Northern Ireland, spooked by the Rwanda bill.

It’s not difficult to find the news articles OP

LlynTegid · 28/04/2024 17:18

I support the Irish government response to this. Hopefully the issue will end soon as the people of the UK vote out this government.

I've tried looking for the figures, therefore, as you have seen the numbers, kindly share with me/us! Thanks in advance

Yeah, I mean the rise in asylum seekers coming from the UK is all I hear about on Irish radio so I don't think Sunak is making it up.

mactire · 28/04/2024 17:20

I look forward to seeing all the UK people who say “France should take them” being fully supportive of the Irish sending these immigrants back to Britain.

France won’t take them back because we are no longer part of the EU.

Ireland is, so arrangements can be made with the EU regarding where to place people.

You’re missing the point that I’m making. I’m ready to be amused by the hypocrisy.

The Tories are absolutely determined to make us into an international pariah aren't they.

Number?/ Numbers as per my OP?

I'm sure there are but a handful.

I've just been looking up Irelands demographics - hardly any people there from outside the EU

On behalf of Ireland, I'm most appreciative about your concern. We however, are concerned about your obsession with Rishi/migrants/whatever 'controversial' shite that flits through your head from hour to hour. You should see someone for that

ClawdeenWolf · 28/04/2024 17:38

Jesus wept, haven't you got a bloody life?

Google it? Seriously it doesn't take much.

To date in 2024, 6,739 people have applied for asylum, of these, 6,136, or 91 per cent, were first encountered by the authorities when they arrived in Dublin city, indicating the vast majority crossed the border from Northern Ireland after leaving Britain.

Asylum claims in Ireland to more than double this year

Government fury over the British prime minister Rishi Sunak’s crowing on the success of Rwanda deportation plan

I adore the fact that OP has just been looking up Ireland's demographics and deigns to 'inform' us all of her exciting findings. Like Ireland is some some sort of mythical, parallel universe. She must live under a fucking rock. Our Taoiseach is a gay man of Indian descent for example. We are a nation of people who emigrated and we have had a lot of immigrants in the last 20 years. Not without it's problems but on the whole has been a huge benefit for the country.

Psychoticbreak · 28/04/2024 17:51

@DanielGault Our Taoiseach is a straight white Irish man I think you will find.

Yes! Totally this.

KestrelMoon · 28/04/2024 17:52

lol, people are still coming here. If some are still going to Ireland it is because they are a richer country, with better opportunities and a better human rights record, not because they are afraid of us shipping them to Rwanda.

Psychoticbreak · 28/04/2024 17:52

However going back to us being mythical sure you only have to look at the twats that voted for brexit and when asked questions about Ireland genuinely did not know 26 of our counties were nothing to do with them.

Lol, sorry, the taoiseach switching business has my head wrecked! But you get the general point!

Psychoticbreak · 28/04/2024 17:54

Oh do not start me on that. One day Leo, then Micheal then the walking corpse. We dont make it easy for ourselves but yes I get you. I just think that Britain will not leave us alone till they get some kind of border which they failed to get in brexit.

I don't think Simon Harris is a gay man of Indian descent?
