Indeed, some may be going to "Ireland,! and may have been doing so
for the last two years anyway.s or so.

Therefore, what was the number of migrants/boat people that went to Ireland from Jan 1st and Dec 31st in 2022 and the year ending 2023??

As I've said many times, I don't trust any politician or political party for that matter as they are on the whole, in it for themselves.

You'd wonder though, it feels like nobody wants the North sometimes. It's a poisoned chalice in a way. Too much hassle for either side. Leave them to their own devices etc. I wonder what the future holds.

Are you being deliberately disingenuous or just very, very ignorant? Under the Dublin regulation, migrant claims are to be processed by the country in which they first entered the Union (which incidentally will only in the rarest of cases happen to be France.) Obviously this doesn't apply to secondary migration from the UK.

Irish courts have deemed that Britain is no longer classes as a safe haven. Therefore people are crossing to border to register in Ireland.

@Solgrass yes but that aside it now seems that this is being subcontracted out to Ireland to deal with.

I am Irish and there is loads of people from outside the eu now and lots coming in from u.k. to Northern Ireland YES and loads coming in on planes with passports and then supposedly lose them on the plane. Should not be allowed off the plane without said passport and sent back to where they came from. Cannot house our own and we have taken in vast numbers and so many from Ukraine and really looked after them but people are pissed off now with our so called open borders and government doing sweet fuck all. Closing nursing homes to accommodate immigrants. Has to stop now as we are a small country and we have more than done our bit. Boats have to be stopped before they leave to come to all our shores.

Also why is it only young males in their 20's/30's leaving their supposedly unsafe countries, the women are more in danger there than anyone and loads claiming to be gay and saying they will be persecuted if they go back. It has just got out of control and people are fed up and angry. Cannot open your mouth here or you get called far right.

'cannot house our own' has been going on for decades. There are definitely problems with our immigration policy, but lack of social housing here is due to failure by multiple governments to provide for it. It's not immigrants. The economy wouldn't be what it is without immigrants. The health system woi collapse overnight without them. 'our own' is a load of me bollix in that regard.

@DanielGault imigrants that can come here and work etc yes but these are illegal and can not work or provide for themselves either. Then we have the sham of direct provision. I am not now and never have been a whole 'help our own first' because sometimes 'our own' want to benefit from the state but the housing crisis is ridiculous here. Our hotels are now taken over by refugees from Ukraine which is costing towns and villages money because it takes away from tourism. I fully get a lot of immigrants over the years have taken on jobs Irish people will not do but the housing crisis is because we have a care of duty to house people coming here and we really cannot house Irish people.

Yes of course it is the useless government but people are coming in from so called safe countries and has been going on for years. But there's no way they could house Irish people in those hotels. Long term at least. I just think immigrants are getting the blame for government inaction and it really grinds my gears. There was so much money sloshing around and they did nothing with it. I'm an 'almost victim ' of a need for social housing and every day I wake up thankful that I managed to avoid it.

@DanielGault well what else can they do? And they have housed Irish people in the hotels. No choice. Nobody is blaming immigrants. People are blaming the government and the fact we have rolled over for so long and that has been to our own detriment but now it is worse because of the UK so we have to take measures.

There are plenty of people blaming the immigrants! There are also plenty just crying out for facilities themselves without an anti immigration agenda. But the longer they mismanage this, the further right we'll go, out of pure frustration. Either way, it's not a direction we want to be going in.
