AIBU to believe this is fake news, hype at best??

Indeed, some may be going to "Ireland,! and may have been doing so
for the last two years anyway.s or so.

Therefore, what was the number of migrants/boat people that went to Ireland from Jan 1st and Dec 31st in 2022 and the year ending 2023??

As I've said many times, I don't trust any politician or political party for that matter as they are on the whole, in it for themselves.

Message to Rishi Sunak, PM - Please give us the numbers. (I bet you it is no different to what was happening previously)

Rishi Sunak says migrants going to Ireland shows Rwanda scheme is working as a deterrent

Ireland's deputy prime minister has said migrants who arrived in the UK on small boats are crossing from Northern Ireland to the Republic. Speaking to Sky's Trevor Phillips, Rishi Sunak says that it shows the deterrent is working.

I'd be in that demographic so I know. But I go if I need to. And they have not been too bad in getting their money tbh. It's the cost of a longer stay I'd be more worried about tbh, I wasn't really aware of it. Afaik it's capped, but I got a bill for 800 quid for a long stay and I just laughed. I have no way of paying it like. But my credit rating was shot already so I just had to say that can go with the rest of the bills. And unfortunately, it comes after food, heat, clothes, school. So they'll be waiting.

The public in-patient charges of €80 a night were actually abolished in April of last year so that's one thing we don't need to worry about any more, thank goidness.
The €100 fee for A&E still remains for much of the public though.

For anyone talking about medical care.

People would be very surprised that a lot of people would qualify for a GP visit card.

It's not the income that brings people over the line it's their outgoings.

Mortgage/rent
Childcare
Building, contents insurance
Mortgage protection
Maintenance payments from previous relationship
Travel costs

These are all assessable outgoings.

If you have an ongoing illness cards can issued on medical grounds.

I worked in medical cards for years, people would surprised, plus the limits were increased last year also.

We found it extremely difficult to get a medical card for our terminally ill dad who was in his early 80s @DublinFemale. Clearly he was eligible for one but there seem to be a lot of glitches in the application system.

I dread to think of those people who have no-one to advocate for them. It really was so very difficult to get the necessary card.

DublinFemale · 13/05/2024 07:55

I don't disagree. It can be difficult. It has in last while become better.

I have an advantage of understanding what is needed and the terminology which gets it processed quickly.

MC area is not a nice section to work so huge staff turnover which means inexperienced processors who are then trained by inexperienced processors. The management structure and ethos is combative with a hint of work to prevent MC issue rather than help people get a MC.

It is slowly moving towards free health care as Slainte card expands. This of course all boils down to funding which the government has control of.

DublinFemale · 13/05/2024 07:59

For the terminally ill or seriously ill now there is a dedicated section which deals exclusively.

Also there has been a big push to get hospital social workers understanding how to get the necessities, MC, SW etc.

And yes the system could be better and hopefully the improvements keep coming.

Thanks for your reply @DublinFemale.
It's good to be heard. I think the inexperienced processors were a lot to do with the problems we had tbh.

Glad to hear improvements are being made overall. It does need to improve. For us the whole process added significantly to the trauma of what was a very traumatic time anyway.

DublinFemale · 13/05/2024 16:23

@Greybay

Not to mention if you use the free phone number you get through to a help desk which sends an email to MC section who then send through a reply or sometimes not.

The issue the client has can become something else entirely before it gets to the relevant team.

A lot of issues but as I said poor management structure. Good staff won't stay which leaves coasting staff and inexperienced

DublinFemale · 13/05/2024 16:24

MC is somebody up high baby, it is protected and haemorrhages money

The NI court decision today might change things in terms of how many cross the open border

news.sky.com/story/amp/law-allowing-asylum-seekers-to-be-detained-and-sent-to-rwanda-disapplied-by-court-in-northern-ireland-13135151

So asylum seekers can travel to NI and claim asylum from there.

How will that work. Isn't Applying in NI and accepted applicable in all countries within UK?
