Her Music I mean.
Seems to be a ginormous following of all age groups! I don't get it, listened to a lot of her Music including the new Album - to me it just sounds like music for Children / Tweens?! What am I missing??

Lots of swear bombs in latest album. It’s quite grown up. She’s quite poetic and deep. Lots of people don’t like her music, it’s fine. Men however, resent her success and look for any way to undermine and trash her because they hate the thought of a self made billionaire-ess.(which isn’t fine)

ManchesterBeatrice · 20/04/2024 15:09

I'm neither here nor there on her.

the80sweregreat · 20/04/2024 15:10

I heard a track today on radio one and it was very different to her usual songs
( not sure which song , but was a collaboration with someone else )
Was a bit like Lana del ray ( as mentioned below)

soscarlet · 20/04/2024 15:11

There is nothing for children/tweens in the new album. It’s fine to not like her but if you’re just looking at radio hits on 1989 and Red you’re missing a lot.

chewbrew · 20/04/2024 15:15

I think her sound is pretty basic much of the time, and I do usually listen to her new music but I don't find it that interesting. However Swift is successful because she appeals to the widest possible fan base, there is pretty much something for everyone and she has been very smart about her career.

tabulahrasa · 20/04/2024 15:16

Liking music or an artist is an entirely subjective thing, so of course not everyone likes the same things.

But, if you listened to her new album and thought it was for children I’d kind of assume you haven’t listened to the lyrics tbh. I mean the third line in the single is, I was a functioning alcoholic…

To be honest I’m tired of the whole “Taylor Swift is music for children/tweens” crap.

A selection of songs Taylor has written:

Bigger Than The Whole Sky - about miscarriage

The Man & Mad Woman - about sexism and the patriarchy

Ronan- about a 3 year old boy who died of neuroblastoma

Dress- about sex

Champagne Problems- about turning down a marriage proposal

Soon You’ll Get Better- about her mother’s battle with cancer

Epiphany- about the trauma of witnessing death

Not exactly Disney is it??

shoppingshamed · 20/04/2024 15:36

Wasn't there a worldwide survey that found that in fact it was literally just you?

It's not compulsory, personally I don't know as I dont know any ofher work other than the ones that everyone knows, I'd guess that's pretty common

SummaLuvin · 20/04/2024 15:38

I'll tell you something right now / I'd rather burn my whole life down / than listen to one more second of all this bitching and moaning…

Beezknees · 20/04/2024 15:38

I don't like her music. Not because I think it's "for children" (I actually like some kpop and loved Little Mix which isn't exactly sophisticated) I just find it dull to my ears. Personal taste and all that but I wouldn't call it music for children.

toastofthetown · 20/04/2024 15:55

Yep, eight billion people on the planet and you're the only one enlightened enough not to like Taylor Swift. What a special snowflake you are.

lovied · 20/04/2024 16:03

No, she's crap. Childish too. Don't get the hype.

Did you not learn as a young child the difference between fact and opinion? It's actually a very easy concept...

TwixOwl · 20/04/2024 16:12

I don't get it either!

To be honest I hate a lot of the current biggest poo artists. Ariana Grande in particular, especially her disgraceful behaviour with men. She recently started a relationship with someone's husband even though he has a new baby with his wife (obviously he's a scumbag too). Apparently her 'thing' is to go after men who already have a wife/gf as she enjoys taking them.

Yeah, their music is so bland and forgettable. Ariana Grande's especially, and what a squeaky voice she has.

But then maybe I'm getting old. I was watching old TOTPs from the 80s and 90s last night and thinking to myself "Aaah, back when music was actually interesting and memorable." I could still remember the lyrics and sing along and I was wondering if a teenager now would remember all the words to current popular songs when they're 50.

I've stopped listening to my local radio station now cos they only play current pop hits. I used to have it on when my kids were little so they could stay up to date with it for parties etc but it's all just so formulaic, bland and boring. Throwaway pop. And they take themselves too seriously.

TinyYellow · 20/04/2024 16:17

Taylor Swift makes me realise what my Dad and uncles were on about back when I was a Kylie Minogue fan and they said all her songs sounded the same. I used to think they must be going a bit deaf. Now I get it.

But her songs DID all sound the same. She did a couple of memorable ones, Spinning Around, Can't Get you out of my head. Can't think of any others between Locomotion and the one she did with Jason Donovan, and the Padum one or whatever it was called.

Terraarts · 20/04/2024 16:21

Who's Taylor Swift?

MarieDeGournay · 20/04/2024 16:22

Her music is, as PPs have said, meh, insofar as I've heard much of it, but TS as a teen idol seems to be not a bad sort at all, her public image seems to be OK, no major scandals, she sticks up for herself, she writes popular songs which are not just about boys, and she's a very successful businesswoman. I'll settle for that, in role models for girls these days.

K0OLA1D · 20/04/2024 16:23

No I don't. But I also don't question why not everyone likes Cradle of Filth 🤷🏼‍♀️

burnttoad · 20/04/2024 16:26

She's catchy and sing along to but my issue is that she just disses all her ex boyfriends. We all know people like this irl. Either people we know or Z listers running to the tabloids. Always bleating about how crap their ex was. Blaming them for everything. Telling everyone everything wrong with them. How toxic they were. How narcissistic etc. it's always their fault. We generally don't like these people. Yet somehow people think Swift is great for doing just this.

IncompleteSenten · 20/04/2024 16:27

I think it's a good example of its genre. It's catchy pop music.

I don't think she's a musical genius or anything but she's decent at what she does.

I think her rabid fans are fucking nuts though.

I don't mean normal people who like her. I mean the batcrap crazy death threat issuing lunatics.
