Her Music I mean.
Seems to be a ginormous following of all age groups! I don't get it, listened to a lot of her Music including the new Album - to me it just sounds like music for Children / Tweens?! What am I missing??

OP posts:
Iaskedyouthrice · 20/04/2024 17:28

She is bland but I like singing her songs when they come on the radio. She has very nice hair.
Edited to add, I like Joe Alwyn so I hope she leaves him alone. He seems like a very private person.

therealcookiemonster · 20/04/2024 17:32

you are definitely not alone OP. can't stand it. always change it if it comes on.

Anyotherdude · 20/04/2024 17:33

I don’t recall ever hearing one of her songs - my exposure to new music stopped when I hit 50!

Unless you don't engage with any kind of media id be surprised if you haven't heard any of her songs, maybe you didn't know it was here but her well known songs are hard to avoid

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 20/04/2024 17:40

Nope, you're not alone.
Can't stand her music or those darn glittery leotard things.

All her songs sound really similar. I find her very blah and don’t get the hype whatsoever. £500 for a concert ticket? 😳

Our Taylor Swift concert tickets are £68 each. Obviously not front and centre but still a good view. Beyoncé tickets cost me £98 about 7 years ago and we were right at the back.

katebushh · 20/04/2024 17:50

Yes I don't get it at all. Bland as it gets musically imo.

DrJoanAllenby · 20/04/2024 17:55

No, far from it. Can't sing, toxic lyrics about all of her boyfriends and satanic stage performances.

Considering how everyone is up in arms about transgender women I can't understand the love for her on here or hasn't the penny dropped?

exomoon · 20/04/2024 17:55

Same, OP, I’m pretty ambivalent about her.

I was bemused by the hullabaloo around the sale of her tour tickets. MNers were acting like they’ve got tickets for the Second Coming of Christ 😂.

People also bragging about how long ago they booked tickets and others about how they’re guarding their tickets with their life. Some people solemnly telling others that it’s too late now. I’m pretty relieved to be out of it.

Blackbirdsinthgarden · 20/04/2024 18:10

Have heard of her (I don’t really live under a rock!) but couldn’t name any of her songs. She must have something if she’s worth all those billions???

BubblegumBlue24 · 20/04/2024 18:12

moonlitmaze · 20/04/2024 14:14

I don't really take much notice of her unless I hear her songs on the radio and then I'm a bit meh. Although I do hate that Anti hero song.

Me too!! Cannot stand her music, I generally hate bland generic pop music (which is how I would describe it before I am corrected!!) but this song… urgh!!

That song was also constantly on the radio at work along with the equally awful Miley Cyrus shudder with her buying roses and writing her name in the sand, and Shania Twain giddying up. I was literally filled with rage and dreaming of taking a sledgehammer to the radio for months 😖

However I think Taylor comes across quite nice and isn’t irritating like a lot of other pop artists. I don’t dislike her just her music.

stayathomer · 20/04/2024 18:18

Back in ‘my day’ (god!) it was Kylie or Madonna. Same thing- great at pivoting and making music and being prolific

Managing to compare TS to transgender women is quite the stretch! 😂 And satanic stage performances?! Peak Mumsnet.

I love her!

SpicyMoth · 20/04/2024 18:24

Hate it, but I'm more a Paramore, Panic at the disco fan anyway! So ofc I'd hate it haha 😂

BoobyDazzler · 20/04/2024 18:26

This isn’t just Taylor Swift for me, I find people having these intense feelings for anyone outside their close family a bit odd and fawning over a celebrity downright weird.

I mean, I don’t hate her music and may even sing along to it in the car, but pay several hundred pounds to go and see it live? Not in a million years.

I wasn't going to comment on this thread but this is so hilariously batshit 😂😂😂

Are you suggesting Taylor Swift is a transwoman @DrJoanAllenby?

Anyway, moving on. 50-year-old ex-goth here, mostly listen to obscure 80s new wave, art-rock and post-punk, and I think anyone who says Taylor Swift makes bland music for children really just isn't listening hard enough.

Gorgonemilezola · 20/04/2024 18:29

Bit bewildered by the hype but seeing some girls/young women on the news last night after the album was released, sobbing and carrying on like a 2 bob watch it's obvious who the fan base are. And if a male artist wrote similar songs about ex lovers he'd be described as vile and misogynistic.

Screamingabdabz · 20/04/2024 18:29

You’re so original and cool for not liking Taylor Swift and music from the [enter whatever decade you were listening to in your youth] was way better. Now let’s all slag her off…

We get it. 🙄

I mean, Paramore are the support for her UK/European tour and have collaborated with her on earlier albums so...

Beautifully proving my point that most people who slag off TS do so from a position of absolute ignorance of what she actually does.

AgentJohnson · 20/04/2024 18:37

You must be living under a rock if you really believed this. The hate directed her way is quite substantial.

Why is not liking something/ someone a badge of honour some.

PeanutAndBanana · 20/04/2024 18:38

Sigh. There is nothing cool or superior about liking or not liking a particular artist. Music is art, and people like different things. I know that Bob Dylan is - objectively - very very good, but it's just not my thing. On the other hand, among a very diverse set of musical tastes (in my fifties, been going to gigs since I was 15, favourite band is The Cure and I'm currently listening to a lot of Olivia Rodrigo), Taylor Swift definitely has a place on my regular music playlists.

She's not the greatest musician ever to walk the earth but she tells a good story, with an ear for a great tune and has a distinctive style while also working through a very large range of genres (if you think Fortnight sounds like Love Story or Shake It Off sounds like Exile you aren't listening). Anyone who says "it's boring and samey" isn't paying attention. I defy anyone who enjoys music not to find something in her back catalogue that works for them.

This album is not for kids, though. It's deeply messy, very funny and all over the place musically and emotionally. I actually think it's very good but Red is my favourite Taylor album and this is giving me a similar chaotic vibe.

What are some deep lyrics of hers than? Genuinely interested.

SerafinasGoose · 20/04/2024 18:40

Wouldn't know it if I heard it. But as my tastes mainly run to rock, metal, alternative, 6 music and classical, I suppose I wouldn't.

Whatever floats your boat.

shenandoahvalley · 20/04/2024 18:41

This is the first TS thread I’ve clicked on (except the one about scam tickets the other day), and I’m finding very similar language to the Meghan & Harry threads. That’s interesting to me, as I’ve never understood some posters’ strength of feeling on either side re that couple. Such strong feelings re TS here. Ascerbic in their disdain and defensiveness, aggressively assertive. Same MO as those who defend Meghan. I wonder if this strongly felt tribalism is a thing? Was Beatlemania like this? Or Diana-fever? I’m not old enough to know re the former, but I get the impression it wasn’t as sharp-edged? I am old enough to know re the latter and I don’t remember it being vicious. Maybe I’m wrong.
