Am I the only person that doesn't like Taylor Swift?

Her Music I mean.
Seems to be a ginormous following of all age groups! I don't get it, listened to a lot of her Music including the new Album - to me it just sounds like music for Children / Tweens?! What am I missing??

Utterly agree. Sick of these 'adored' artists singing out a lost love from bloody years ago, or that they were with for a matter of weeks. You're 34 Taylor, and Adele you're 35 - stop whining!

I mean, if you avoid people who do that… who are you left with?

@CortieTat I would bet money I'm older than you. feeling "blessed" by anything ...and particularly that you think your DD doesn't like pop!

I'm older than you for sure!

I've had a few emails from relatives referencing a whole bunch of personal shit about TS that they saw in the "news". I'm there for the music, the lyrics, the show.

I don't recall seeing any man get so much hate on MN.

Edited

I think you misunderstood me. I’m happy that DD listens to the music I can relate to.

Like I said, I’ve probably heard some TS songs but I can’t remember or name them. I’ve never seen any news about her either. I listen to a talk radio station while driving. Maybe if my kids liked her I would be more exposed to her music who knows.

I find some of her songs catchy, if not cliche. I don't get the hero worship, though, especially from grown women.

Fair point! Heartbreak is a popular theme across most genres.

I’ve heard about her of course but I can’t name or remember a single song. I have a tween at home and she likes Depeche Mode and Iron Maiden. DM probably because we’ve been at their concert together and she loved it. I’ve never seen her listening to or looking for pop songs. I feel quite blessed.

Why do you feel blessed?

My kid listens to different music than me but I don't consider it a blessing or otherwise.

This thread sounds like a bunch of adults stuck in highschool trying to prove they are way too cool to listen to Taylor Swift.

Reminds me of this line funny enough.

"And you, would hide away and find your peace of mind
With some indie record that's much cooler than mine"

Because it’s music I can relate to, I feel great that I can bond with my children over some shared experiences and interests.

What other word would you suggest to use instead of blessed? I’m not a native English speaker so it’s quite surprising to me that “blessed” is triggering (or any other word for “causing a strong reaction”).

I also feel blessed or whatever synonym that my kids like to play my favourite board game.

BTW, a PP on this thread said that TS lyrics were Vogon poetry. I laughed and couldn’t help but google some of her lyrics. Best recommendation 😅.

@CortieTat Oh I see!

It came across as "I'm so relieved my kids don't listen to TS, her music is pop, I would hate it if they listened to her....but they like DM and so do I".

Which was a puzzling moment because a lot of TS is 80s inspired pop.

"Blessed" is used on social media by people who are trying to show off about nothing. Hope that helps.

QuackaRoo · 21/04/2024 20:53

Same 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks, I see! Haven’t met anyone blessed on social media but met a lot of “honoured and proud” people on LinkedIn so I think I understand now and definitely should have phrased it differently.

We do have Melodifestivalen every year which is a huge thing widely covered on tv, radio and everywhere, and my kids do like it. So they are definitely not only into “classics”.
