Am I the only person that doesn't like Taylor Swift?

Her Music I mean.
Seems to be a ginormous following of all age groups! I don't get it, listened to a lot of her Music including the new Album - to me it just sounds like music for Children / Tweens?! What am I missing??

I'm not really bothered got other things to think about .

I wouldn't switch it off if her music came on the radio, but I wouldn't actively seek it out either.

It's just kind of meh to me.

Well no -I mean this is the second thread here today about it - but it's not compulsory to like her music so chose something else.

I thought I was the only one - although I greatly admire her guts and attitude, but the music not so much.

I have put the whole new album on Alexa. It's very bland. Five songs in.
It's a bit Lana del Ray in places

I'm surprised she is so revered , but then I'm not her demographic.
I liked ' shake it off ' as it's a classic pop song , but her newer music seems samey.
She is very popular and richer than I'll ever be, so she's doing something right!

Like all art, it’s subjective. I love her music and have done since her first single. I also love that dd16 loves her too so we have a shared interest.

From another angle, I had a tough year at work with a bullying situation. Seeing TS recover after her much more public bullying situation is a great reminder to people that life can be hard but you can survive it and come back even better. Love a story of a bully not winning.

I don't really take much notice of her unless I hear her songs on the radio and then I'm a bit meh. Although I do hate that Anti hero song.

You can not like her music, it's ok. You can't deny that she writes great pop songs, writes all her own music, has changed the music industry and is one of the most successful artists of all time. I don't hugely care for the music of the Beatles but wouldn't think to undermine their talent or success in the way some people seem to think its OK to do with Taylor. Not saying you are, it's just a common theme. And there's a bit of "things young girls like must be shit" to it, which needs to be watched out for.

No I flicked through the latest offering and all the songs sound the same! i like odd songs here and there in her back catalogue but nothing recent.

Music doesn't appeal, a bit meh, but the gorgeous, clever Hadley Freeman (journalist/writer) is a mega fan and says she's a very poet-erly lyric writer, which I agree with. I'm going to try to learn to like her. My daughter has a ticket to a concert in June so will be delighted to play her music in the house.

DD (11) loves her and her music. I don't, but I am a metalhead. Oh well, there's room for everyone 🤷‍♂️. Anyway, as PP have already said, she's selling millions of albums and gig tickets, has legions of fans, is a billionaire at her age, is hard working, smart and very successful, she must be doing something right!

To be honest I hate a lot of the current biggest poo artists. Ariana Grande in particular, especially her disgraceful behaviour with men. She recently started a relationship with someone's husband even though he has a new baby with his wife (obviously he's a scumbag too). Apparently her 'thing' is to go after men who already have a wife/gf as she enjoys taking them.

Second thread on here today just to have a pop at her, it's all a bit odd. Sure she will sleep tonight still even if a few Mumsnetters don't see her appeal 🙄

(And no, I'm not a TS fan, I just know that we don't all like the same things and that making posts feigning confusion at why people like a thing is tired and boring).

I like Shake if off, but her new songs all sound very similar. I don't dislike her so much as the hype around her including from the BBC, where she's featured in the main 'news' for 2 days in a row.

maybe the fact that different people like different things. I don’t like football, but I don’t feel the need to make threads wondering why. These threads feel like such internalised misogyny - I’m so cool as I don’t get Taylor like the other silly girls - at the same time as trying to bring TS down a notch.

Perhaps some of Red /1989 was very poppy but her output really isn’t now.
im surprised you think it’s for tweens and makes me think you haven’t actually listened all that much because the lyrics of the last 4 albums have been very poetic and considered.
I also feel it would help if you gave us some example of artists you think are good right now rather than just disliking TS as it helps to contextualise. As if you are into something very different, it would make a lot of sense that this wasn’t your thing!
