Would you find this a little snobby in someone?

If someone looked down their nose at seaside towns like Blackpool or similar, and would only stay in high-end hotels, nothing like a Premier Inn. I know it's all budget-related, though I've had perfectly good experiences with premier inns and cannot afford luxury hotels.

Yes to premier inn, no way to Blackpool!

What about a premier inn in Blackpool? It's got a few to choose from.

Matilda1981 · 07/04/2024 15:51

Blackpool is a s*hole 🤣🤣 I’m defo not precious about hotels but Blackpool is pretty dire!

Wakeywake · 07/04/2024 15:51

Looking down on Blackpool is not snobbery, it's common sense.

tillytoodles1 · 07/04/2024 15:51

I'd quite happily stay in a Premier Inn, but wild horses couldn't drag me to a seaside resort like Blackpool or Rhyl.

MsLuxLisbon · 07/04/2024 15:52

I don't like Premier Inns and wouldn't ever ever go to Blackpool. If that makes me a snob, so be it!

Bigearringsbigsmile · 07/04/2024 15:53

Yes to premier if I wasn't going to spend time in the room- just sleep.
No to Blackpool ever.

KoolKookaburra · 07/04/2024 15:53

Thing with premier Inn is you know what you're getting. Some people like that other people don't like the offering. That's fine. Each to their own

ginasevern · 07/04/2024 15:53

Nothing wrong with Premier Inns. Haven't been to Blackpool for 50 years but I enjoyed it then! If someone is sneering at you for certain choices then they have absolutely no class and do not know how to conduct themselves in polite society. Also, tell them to fuck off.

Letthemusicplayy · 07/04/2024 15:53

I understand why people are saying that about these places. I felt a bit embarrassed when he said it as my parents took me to Blackpool often as a child, and sometimes Rhyl. We also went on 'higher end' holidays too though.

Premier Inn, fine. Blackpool? Not a chance in hell!

BettyShagter · 07/04/2024 15:55

Depends on the context really.

I'm a firm believer in always buying the best you can afford, but what people can afford obviously differs massively.

So if I went to a seaside town with friends who couldn't afford to stay anywhere other than a Premier Inn, I'd happily stay there.

If they could afford something that felt like a bit more of a treat, I'd opt to do that.

ClemmyTine · 07/04/2024 15:55

Go where you can afford and want to.

You could say the same about a lot of coastal places, Gt Yarmouth, Skegvegas, Cleethorpes, Newquay etc... lots of folk go every year..

OpalOwl · 07/04/2024 15:55

Premier inn, yes. Will happily stay in even more basic accommodation than that.
Blackpool, maybe a short wander once every couple of years. I live quite close and the children like it.
For the nightlife, no.

What did he actually say?

KoolKookaburra · 07/04/2024 15:56

Councils often house released prisoners in these areas as its cheap

It came up in conversation and I asked him if he'd been, he started saying, Urgh yeah, what a vile horrid place.

It’s 100% snobbery. But it’s a free country, each to their own.

SapphosRock · 07/04/2024 15:58

I would choose a Premier Inn in Blackpool over a Travellodge in Milton Keynes any day.

hellofrommyothername · 07/04/2024 15:58

I love a premier inn! I don’t feel like there’s much difference between budget and mid-tier hotels to be honest. I expect there is when comparing to a 5* place but I’ve never been to one so wouldn’t know 😂

Bessica1970 · 07/04/2024 15:59

I wouldn’t go to Blackpool, but I wouldn’t make someone else feel rubbish for going and enjoying it.

Not liking something isn’t snobby - making someone else feel inferior by articulating that to them is snobby.

Letthemusicplayy · 07/04/2024 15:59

I used to enjoy walking along the beach, going to the pleasure beach and so on as a child. I understand the nightlife might be dire, and I think there's a difference between living there and going for the day.

Waitingfordoggo · 07/04/2024 15:59

I love a Premier Inn and don’t mind a Travelodge either. I like camping/caravanning so roughing it doesn’t bother me.

Blackpool really doesn’t appeal tbh, but I’ve never been so I can’t honestly judge.

Maybe he had a different experience to you

Visited Blackpool once when son was at Lancaster University. We went out of curiosity . Lasted an hour ,what a shit tip! No problem with Premier Inn for somewhere to sleep…Britannia Hotels though are on a different level ,absolutely grim !
