Would you find this a little snobby in someone?

If someone looked down their nose at seaside towns like Blackpool or similar, and would only stay in high-end hotels, nothing like a Premier Inn. I know it's all budget-related, though I've had perfectly good experiences with premier inns and cannot afford luxury hotels.

We're going to Blackpool this summer and I was really looking forward to it... Never been before.

Years ago I asked on here where was a 'nice' place to stay near Blackpool and got completely torn to shreds for being a vile snob 😂

Don't let this thread put you off. It's perfectly possible to have a great time in Blackpool, especially with kids.

Have to say, too, I am curious as to how come you've spent 'absolutely loads' of time in a place you consider a shithole? scratches head in puzzlement**

Maybe the poster used to live there? Had relatives there they visited often as a child? There are lots of reasons you’d have to spend time in a place you consider to be a shit hole.

Yes I have. I live about 40 minutes from Rhyl but never go there anymore as its a dump. When my kids were younger they loved Blackpool, we use to go a couple of times during the school holidays then again to see the lights. Not anymore though, it's so run down and looks really rough.

That’s a shame. Although it seems like so much of the country is just run down and shitty so suppose it’s to be expected sadly.

Blackpool has a very high population of sex offenders. That’s why I wouldn’t go - nothing to do with the naffness of it. I love naff.

The reason I find Blackpool hard to take sometimes is the level of deprivation. It's got nothing to do with naffness. It's not that I only want to be surrounded by people who are wealthy (far from it) - but when you feel unsafe it's not so fun. I went last year and the poverty was quite depressing. I'll never forget seeing an alcoholic/drug addicted couple, with a screaming toddler in a pram. The mother was repeatedly punching her partner in the face. It was horrible. Sadly I've seen too many sights like this in Blackpool. I myself, come from a deprived seaside town and I love it there and feel safe. I'm not a snob. But sometimes I feel Blackpool is on another level.

Blackpool I'd avoid like the plague and Premier Inns aren' as good as they used to be.

puffyisgood · 10/04/2024 16:45

I long ago accepted that different people: (a) like different, in some cases wildly different, things; and (b) have different, in some cases wildly different, opinions about things. both Blackpool and Premier Inns would qualify as 'things'. I'd probably try to change the subject if someone went on a really long rant about how awful [or wonderful] lthey were but wouldn't particularly judge them unless things got really out of hand.
