To be pissed at my name being laughed at constantly

So I'll let you guess my name.....

Today I had a hospital procedure and every member of staff laughed at my name. I was asked if it really was my name and what the weather forecast is for tomorrow.

On the form I had to fill out first it asked what you would like to be called so I put my nickname to hopefully avoid this but that didn't work. I didn't say anything as I didn't want to make it awkward and wanted the procedure over with as soon as possible.

Not the first time this has happened, at a different hospital last month one nurse couldn't stop laughing and asking me questions..

I'm in my late 40's, used to love my name but it's becoming a nightmare.

That's such a strange reaction from medical staff and very unprofessional. Alexa is a lovely name that unfortunately has been taken over by Amazon.

Little girl up the road named this just before Alexa really took off. Poor thing is going to be stuck with that kind of thing her entire life - at least you got plenty of time just to love the name.

I expect changing name by deed poll to be in her future. You could always do that?

But I agree it's awful it ruined an actual name that real people have.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your name and hospital staff laughing at it shows how unprofessional they are. I can only imagine how they treat others if they think it is perfectly fine to laugh at someone’s given name. Don’t even see how it’s funny tbh.

I actually still love the name Alexa. I thought it was going to be far worse. For a minute I thought you were called Amazon. I’m sure they were laughing in a ‘god that must make life interesting’ way not ‘god what a hideous name’ way.

Seems pretty unprofessional of them. I work with a lady called Alexa, it has never occurred to me to say anything like that to her, never crossed my mind!
