To be pissed at my name being laughed at constantly

So I'll let you guess my name.....

Today I had a hospital procedure and every member of staff laughed at my name. I was asked if it really was my name and what the weather forecast is for tomorrow.

On the form I had to fill out first it asked what you would like to be called so I put my nickname to hopefully avoid this but that didn't work. I didn't say anything as I didn't want to make it awkward and wanted the procedure over with as soon as possible.

Not the first time this has happened, at a different hospital last month one nurse couldn't stop laughing and asking me questions..

I'm in my late 40's, used to love my name but it's becoming a nightmare.

I really love the name Alexa, it's so pretty. I don't have an actual amazon alexa though - if I did, maybe I'd stop hearing it as a pretty name and just associate it with the robot lady who times my boiled eggs and plays Hall and Oates on demand.

If I were you and it bothered me, I'd go by Alex. Although Alexa really is a pretty name, so it seems a shame.

I've got a slightly funny surname that people question/laugh at, I'm used to it and take it in good humour. I find also acknowledging it's comical tends to minimise the banter. I think the more you act perturbed, the more they'll jest.

I have never seen such a precipitous drop in the usage statistics for a name as that for Alexa between 2017 and 2021 (https://names.darkgreener.com/#alexa).

There is a bully in my DC’s year named Alexa. I have wondered more than once if it is a pre-emptive measure against the teasing her name attracts.

It is a beautiful name. I had a school friend called Flora who used to be teased because it was a margarine brand. Annoying but it didn't make it any less of a beautiful name.

The Sunday Post had (has?) a long running column titled Seven Days Hard by Francis Gay chronicling the ups and downs of a curtain twitching market town dweller which I suspect was some kind of slow burn embedded front for Stonewall.

Good grief, they need to get over themselves.
I know two Alexa's, both in their 30s and both working in the NHS. I wasn't aware it's an uncommon name.

Not hard to guess since you've literally put it in your username. I've never come across professionals that would openly laugh their heads off at somebody's name. What a weird reaction.

I met a lovely German family a few weeks ago who had teenage daughters called Siri and Alexa 😂. They fortunately see the funny side of how their choices turned out!
