To be pissed at my name being laughed at constantly

So I'll let you guess my name.....

Today I had a hospital procedure and every member of staff laughed at my name. I was asked if it really was my name and what the weather forecast is for tomorrow.

On the form I had to fill out first it asked what you would like to be called so I put my nickname to hopefully avoid this but that didn't work. I didn't say anything as I didn't want to make it awkward and wanted the procedure over with as soon as possible.

Not the first time this has happened, at a different hospital last month one nurse couldn't stop laughing and asking me questions..

I'm in my late 40's, used to love my name but it's becoming a nightmare.

Even more so as it was a name, and perfectly normal / nice name before the device was ever invented.
Somewhat different from parents giving their child a ridiculous name.

That’s not on. I have a tease worthy surname but I still wanted to keep it after marriage. It means I can say for certain I have Norman ancestry even if it was a bit meh at school.

I knew a chap called Roger Moore, he was a shade too old to have been purposefully named after the famous one 😂

I was at school with an Alexa, I didn't particularly like her, but I have wondered how its affected her.

To be fair I think the OP expected people to work it out straight away based on their NN alone.

The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the name Alexa is Alexa Vega.

I can sympathise OP as my name doesn’t have the same problems yours does but always causes me a headache for many varied reasons. It’s very stressful when you know you’re constantly having to explain yourself.

It’s not like the name Alexa was unheard of before bloody Amazon. People are idiots. And it’s a really lovely name, too. I’ve always liked it.

Even if there was anything particularly odd or funny about your name, it would still be rude and unprofessional of people to take the piss.

That’s nothing. I have seen some stunningly bad forenames on paperwork. For example:

Yaris.(FGS, just go with Paris)
Sierra Cosworth (1st & middle name, clearly in honour of that eighties iconic vehicle)
Ocean (just why? especially partnered with a surname something like McClunkybum….)
Kennethina (the very worst of the ones where the parents wanted a boy)
Chardonnay (I am not kidding, blame Footballer’s Wives)
Armani & Jazz (siblings)
Khalessi (Game of Thrones anyone?)

This is my name and nobody has ever really said anything other than "does that confuse the amazon device / does it get annoying". Nobody has ever laughed. That's just odd.
