To be pissed at my name being laughed at constantly

So I'll let you guess my name.....

Today I had a hospital procedure and every member of staff laughed at my name. I was asked if it really was my name and what the weather forecast is for tomorrow.

On the form I had to fill out first it asked what you would like to be called so I put my nickname to hopefully avoid this but that didn't work. I didn't say anything as I didn't want to make it awkward and wanted the procedure over with as soon as possible.

Not the first time this has happened, at a different hospital last month one nurse couldn't stop laughing and asking me questions..

I'm in my late 40's, used to love my name but it's becoming a nightmare.

Fuck you Amazon

I think Alexa is a lovely name -- nowadays it evokes "knowledge, lots of knowledge", smart answers, helpful person, etc. My granddaughters use "Alexa" very sweetly to talk to my phone and other gadgets.
I have been variously called mis-pronounced as "Anal" on occasions even by my office secretary!! 😂

I hate my surname. People mispronounce it and spell it in different ways..

The only clue I will give to you is that is a place in Lancashire.

I worked for a bank for a year and forced to wear a badge with my first name and surname. The number of times I got asked how do you pronounce it was unreal. Thank goodness this was a time before FB.

I remember one name working at a call centre and spoke to was someone with the surname B A S T A R D. My colleagues were giving me looks when I said Mr B....d as I thought I was being rude. I pointed on the screen the name of the customer. They acknowledged it and walked away PTWL. The system used - the customer's name and address were on the top left of each screen of their account.

Plus he was a teacher! There are some names if you have one- don't become a teacher!

I had a beat friend who's real name was Sonny Day.
His mum said he was a difficult pregnancy! She was hilarious!
Thankfully, he had a great attitude. I miss you Sonny if you're reading this!!

Respond with

I’m sorry, I didn’t quite get that

over and over in a slightly robotic voice. Do not crack a smile.

I imagine you completely distracted them from choreographing more TikTok dances. Twats.

Cordia74 · 04/04/2024 15:00

I was thinking Michael Fish until I saw the Amazon part of your post. 😂

Knicksandnocks · 04/04/2024 15:09

Sorry about that, but Tories are really not popular Mrs Hunt

MariaDingbat · 04/04/2024 15:15

We use Echo as the wake up word because we have a friend called Alexa and it would have been too weird shouting 'Alexa add milk to the shopping list' across that kitchen!

Mrssnee16 · 04/04/2024 17:04

I used to like being called jenny until I found out a jenny is a female donkey, now it's jenn. Some people are just beyond stupid and unprofessional. I think alexa is a lovely name.

I love the name Alexa, it just made me chuckle when the comedy series Outnumbered came out in 2011, then years later I'm watching one of the episodes where Karen has her friend Alexa visiting in the house, and the mum Sue is having to call her constantly, confused my electronic Alexa no end lol! But there is no way I'd be disrespectable to anybody called by that name in real life.
