They're 45 quid. It's a water bottle. I just don't get it.

To me it will only ever be the NHL ice hockey championship trophy.

Tagyoureit · 26/03/2024 22:13

They are horrifically huge!! It's just so unnecessary!!

Yes, I was wondering what hockey had to do with the price of fish!

WildRosesForCathy · 26/03/2024 22:14

I have to say that mine is the best water bottle I've ever had, I didn't pay £45 for it though.

I hear you. You have to give the creators of this (and Yeti and similar brands) and their marketing people credit though. Absolute genius, such a boring everyday item going viral. And now they're keeping the buzz alive with stupid accessories and limited edition colours etc.

Fair enough, how did you get it cheaper?
Even if it was the best water bottle I'd ever experienced I wouldn't be willing to pay 45 quid

Oh absolutely. I wish I'd invented it 😂

I confess I really did think you meant the ice hockey trophy. The Stanley Cup is like the FA Cup, or the Ashes or the Super Bowl. It’s massively famous.

Has a company really used that name? Seems a bit daft.

They are toddler cups!

Whenwillitgetwarm · 26/03/2024 22:26

Yes influencers and viral marketing has managed to convince some grown ass woman to part with good money for a water bottle.

It’s basically akin to Smiggle for grown adults. It’s so transparent.

That'll probably be the Davis Cup you're thinking of.

Chipsweep · 26/03/2024 22:29

I have one. Left to my own devices I’ll go a whole day without drinking anything. DH (who bought it for me in despair at my constant dehydration) plonks the Stanley cup full of water next to me in the morning and by the end of the day I find I’ve drunk the full 1.2L.

The same effect could have occured with any old cup though.

However, I am grateful to them for existing as it gave me something to buy to older teens for Christmas.

Yes, you're right, thanks!

seven201 · 26/03/2024 22:41

I've heard of them but feel I must be missing something. Is it just a giant water bottle in the shape of a cup? I had no idea they were so expensive! I carry a metal water bottle everywhere I go as I'm always thirsty. At home I am one of those annoying people who has glasses everywhere.

Stanley Cup Snl GIF by Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live did an excellent skit on this

Biiiiig cuuuuuup….. you can taste the bacteria….

LorlieS · 26/03/2024 22:44

So many kids at the primary I teach in are coming in with these very silly air up bottles. Talk about gimmick!!

WhoaJayShettybambalam · 26/03/2024 22:47

I have a few Stanley products but not these because I don’t do hype. The flasks and food flasks are good and well worth it but cup wise I use chillys. A bottle for water and a mug for coffee.

toomanyy · 26/03/2024 22:49

YANBU. I drink a lot of water but I have a 2 litre bottle with straw from Tesco for £3. 😂 at people spending £45.

No, he was previously bringing me a normal glass and obviously being much smaller I was drinking less. The size that everyone is mocking is the whole point he bought it. Plus I was leaving a normal cup behind if I was moving around with my laptop, as I often go between the desk and kitchen table, but you don’t need a free hand to carry the Stanley cup, only a finger!
