They're 45 quid. It's a water bottle. I just don't get it.

So much Smiggles. Wait long enough they'll be on sale and in TKMax, if they aren't already.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. You do you and let others drink water without judgement.

Why do you say that? It’s the simple truth.

I did do me. Me was well fucked off with his constant slurping.

SableGrape · 26/03/2024 23:36

I have three from the Range - cost under £10 each and make my life so much easier - I can make a hot drink on a morning and it lasts all day.

Chipsweep · 26/03/2024 23:37

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 26/03/2024 23:14

Yeah, that bugs me. In one office I used to sit opposite a man who drank water from a flask all the way though the day. What on earth for? If you’re not thirsty you don’t need to drink water. You get enough water from food and hot drinks.

How do you know he wasn’t thirsty? And drinking water is better for you than drinking coffee or (non herbal) tea

If you need to drink litres of water all day in an office because you’re thirsty there must be something wrong with you.

To me it will only ever be the NHL ice hockey championship trophy.

YES!!!! 🏒🥅

Although, I’m a Blackhawks fan, so the less said about this season the better.

Maybe he did have a health condition you didn’t know about!

WildRosesForCathy · 26/03/2024 23:45

Black Friday offers, I paid £20 odd.
I have two one of the ones everyone hates for the house and one with a flip down straw for taking out and about.

Maybe. But I very much doubt it. And what condition makes you permanently thirsty anyway? If he’d been diabetic he wouldn’t have treated it by drinking water.

Here is the recommendation from the NHS. So telling people to drink only when thirsty is terrible advice as many people don’t feel thirst.

Daily fluid intakeMost people should aim to drink enough during the day so their pee is a clear pale yellow colour.
The Eatwell Guide recommends that people should aim to drink 6 to 8 cups or glasses of fluid a day. Water, lower-fat milk and sugar-free drinks, including tea and coffee, all count.
You may need to drink more fluids if you're:

  • pregnant or breastfeeding
  • in a hot environment
  • physically active for long periods
  • ill or recovering from illness

Sat reading this thread whilst drinking from mine 🤣 I've had mine since last Autumn and my water intake has shot up! Yes, it's huge and obnoxious and I've yet to take it into a meeting without someone making a snarky comment.
But for the first time in my adult life, my main liquid intake isn't caffeine based so I'm going to stick with my oversized toddler cup.

You really need to read more. There are people who have to drink upwards of 5 litres a day to stay alive.

“I Have To Drink 20 Litres Of Water A Day To Stay Alive" | Body Bizarre

35-year-old German architect Marc Wübbenhorst needs to drink at least 20 litres of water every day or else he will die from dehydration. Find out more about ...

There's a Facebook group that's started popping up on my page. People have shelves full of things with boots and straw bows. It's fascinating. They don't even use them. Just collect them and the accessories.

The bloke I’m talking about drank about the equivalent of 30 cups of water a day, at least!

Yes, and there are people whose kidneys don’t process water the way yours do. Get some empathy!

I really don’t think that was his issue. He was a health nut.

He must have needed it otherwise drinking 7 litres of water a day would make him very sick.

WildRosesForCathy · 26/03/2024 23:56

Genuinely, why? I mean, all I need for a water bottle is for it not to leak. So beyond that I really couldn't rank any water bottle as better than any other. What makes it the best?

I am admittedly very fussy about things like this and have bought loads of water bottles. I prefer a bottle that keeps the drink at my preferred temperature so plastic is out. I like a straw or spout you have to suck but it has to feel right in my mouth. I am really sensitive to tastes and find lots of straws leave an aftertaste in my mouth.
My Stanley cups meet all those requirements and I am happy to drink from them. I do have a dupe that I bought in America for about $20 the actual cup is just as good as the Stanley and the lid looks nicer but the straw tastes odd.

I did wonder whether he was harming himself. I’ve heard of brain swelling from too much water slurping.

I think he was just caught up in the ‘you must drink water for health’ fad.

Spanglybangles · 26/03/2024 23:56

I love mine! I got the slightly smaller version without the handle. It fits my cup holders, keeps coffee hot for hours, keeps iced drinks cold for like 2 days (I’ve checked). A bit pricey, but I got lucky when I ordered one and they sent a box of 4!!!! Came from the US and didn’t have to return, so I gave one to my DD, my mum and my best friend….result!

YANBU. I drink a lot of water but I have a 2 litre bottle with straw from Tesco for £3. 😂 at people spending £45.

Reminds me of our days in a Med country where one could buy whisky etc by taking a bottle and getting it filled cheaply it was poor stuff but we then decanted it into a 'proper' bottle. Some guests never twigged.

justasking111 · 27/03/2024 00:01

My grandson has an air cup he says it makes his water taste yummy. I'm not sure how it works but he loves it.

I do think they're a bit silly and oversized, not to mention expensive. Totally impractical to take out and about and so heavy when they're full of water.

That said, I have a £15 dupe from Sainsbury's and I love using it at home. Super useful having it on my desk on the days I work from home and encourages me to drink more water. Just get a fake version.
