They're 45 quid. It's a water bottle. I just don't get it.

I could also choose to do a backflip every five minutes, but at this point in my life it’s pretty clear I’m not capable of either of those things!

People on this thread acting like refilling a small cup is somehow morally superior to having a bigger cup 😂

Nalgene bottles for the win.

They are BPA free, and are unbreakable....you can smash them to the floor and they will be fine.
Leakproof too. And come in a huge range of colours. You can also put boiling water in them, for tea.....or use them as a hot water bottle, if you have to.

PuddingChipsAndGravy · 27/03/2024 00:50

I have one of the meoky ones from TikTok shop. Main use is for at work it's a god send for having cold drink to hand. Ice in them still hasn't melted after 8 hour shift. It does encourage me to drink more as I love ice cold drinks. Mine was a tenner, 40 quid for a cup they can keep it!

Apolloneuro · 27/03/2024 01:01

When I picked up my friend’s, I was shocked at how heavy it was.

RiderofRohan · 27/03/2024 04:18

The Stanley cup has been around for years. It isn't some new invention. But social media made it a thing in the last year and humans are sheep, unfortunately.

The company massively invested in influencer marketing and their share price shot right up as a result. Clever.

Get a £10-15 water bottle off Amazon. It does the same thing.

DuploTrain · 27/03/2024 04:34

I do find it bizarre to cart around all the water you’re planning to drink throughout the day. Like if I turned up to a meeting with my breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for the whole day so I don’t forget to eat them.

Turquoisa80 · 27/03/2024 04:40

The straw puts me off, the sucking action can cause lines around your mouth. Better to have a water bottle with a spout.

I have one. Left to my own devices I’ll go a whole day without drinking anything. DH (who bought it for me in despair at my constant dehydration) plonks the Stanley cup full of water next to me in the morning and by the end of the day I find I’ve drunk the full 1.2L.

The constant state of dehydration sounds concerning.

Do you have a health issue or is this just a turn of phrase?

Real dehydration is medically dangerous and if it's 'constant' even more so.

Unless I’m hiking on a hot day I literally won’t drink anything unless prompted. No water, no tea, literally no fluids. As a child my parents took me to the doctor because they thought there was something wrong with my kidneys but I just don’t process thirst, I’m like why am I struggling to function and have a splitting headache, such a mystery 🤔 So yeah it’s pretty easy to get dehydrated actually.

???

Just have drink of water with each meal and a tea or coffee break mid morning and mid afternoon.

How do you manage other aspects of your life? Just decide some sensible rehydration times and then just... do it!

myusernamewastakenbyme · 27/03/2024 06:14

These cups will all end up in landfill when the next fad comes along.

pictoosh · 27/03/2024 06:19

I've heard some nonsense in my time...and "I need a Stanley cup otherwise I'll shrivel up.", is some of it.

They were designed for lorry drivers on long haul. The narrow bottom fits in the cup holder and the large handle and straw makes them easy to pick up and drink from.

If it makes you happy I suppose.

Absolutely.

Chipsweep · 27/03/2024 06:25

@murphys Not dehydration to the point of needing a drip or whatever but getting headaches, feeling tired etc.

@user1477391263 I have ADHD so no, I can’t just pick an arbitrary routine and do it!

fieldsofbutterflies · 27/03/2024 06:32

I genuinely don't get the need for all the snide comments about stuff like this.

If you don't "get it" then just don't buy one. Why the need to make unpleasant comments about people who do find them useful?

And before someone says it, I don't have one myself so I'm not remotely offended by any of it, I just think it's being unpleasant for the sake of it.

ThePoshUns · 27/03/2024 06:32

Do the influencers use huge cups to make themselves look small and dainty?

Emperors New Water Bottle

Spot on, and hideous and ungainly~ looking too.

ShoveItUpYourArseMargaret · 26/03/2024 23:14

They’re the height of tackiness along with pastel tracksuits 🤮

So very naff

People are strange copying each other like that.

Drearydiedre · 27/03/2024 06:46

I think this generations obsession with not getting dehydrated is hilarious. My sil removed her glass from the dinner table at Christmas and replaced it with her stanley cup 'so she knew how much she'd had to drink'. I'm quite pleased she did though. It's always nice to look back on massively dated christmas photos and laugh!

The only people I’ve seen with them are actual children and they look bloody ridiculous as they are nearly as big as them. They bring them into school. I roll my eyes at the stupidity of the parents paying that much for a child’s water cup. To me it screams that they value bling and let their daughters spend hours online watching influencers.

Heatherbell1978 · 27/03/2024 06:51

I'm clearly getting old because any of these hyped up marketing ploys just makes me roll my eyes. I overheard a mum saying her daughter (age 7) was desperate for one and she paid £70? Huh? It's a water bottle.

Hoplolly · 27/03/2024 06:53

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 26/03/2024 22:21

I confess I really did think you meant the ice hockey trophy. The Stanley Cup is like the FA Cup, or the Ashes or the Super Bowl. It’s massively famous.

Has a company really used that name? Seems a bit daft.

I mean the Stanley company have been around for over 100 years, they've not just settled on that name recently.

Ha ha yes. Pastel tracksuits, injected lips and a Stanley water bottle. Drives an Evoque. It's definitely a look up here.

vanillawaffle · 27/03/2024 06:58

Each to their own. There's some enterprising people out there renting theirs out for selfies for tick tok etc

moreoutsidespace · 27/03/2024 07:02

I have 2. Love them. Bought them in America before the current craze and use them both every day. One at work and one at home. Personally, I have found them much better than the usual plastic water bottles from the supermarket or Amazon etc. Easy to clean, keeps my water cold. I’m quite happy with mine. I don’t walk about the shops with them though. One on my desk at work and the other floating about the house.
