To not get the Stanley Cup thing

They're 45 quid. It's a water bottle. I just don't get it.

The water bottle thing as a whole gives me the ick. Nowadays everyone acts like a beached whale that's drying out. However, I'm in the car 3-5 hours a day and need something that won't leak if I leave it on the passenger seat so I invested £2 in a Primark water bottle that was on sale.

I think the Stanley cups look cool in an "Ugg boots, pumpkin spiced latte and financed white SUV" way and I'm just not that girl and would never justify that cost. Much as I want to be.

I have to say that mine is the best water bottle I've ever had, I didn't pay £45 for it though.

What is it about it that makes it so good?

Honestly how good can a water bottle actually be?

Jettyspaghetti · 27/03/2024 07:30

DD got one off tiktok shop for £2.07. She loves it, I think it's like carrying around a fire extinguisher, and when she puts it's on the coffee table you cannot see the TV.
To be fair to her I'm no better. I have a massive Yeti water bottle that I use for work. That was £34.99 nearly 3 years ago.

Tisfortired · 27/03/2024 07:34

I’d really like one but never EVER enough to pay £45 for one. I wouldn’t even tell DP I want one because he’d probably buy one for my birthday/Christmas and I couldn’t justify that amount of money being spent on a water bottle.

To me it will only ever be the NHL ice hockey championship trophy.

I was wondering what had gone off!

Nobody who eats a normal diet will get dehydrated by not drinking litres of water!

I was just going to say this. Dehydration is just not a problem on a standard grey day in England

Kitkat1523 · 27/03/2024 07:40

I prefer the yeti brand ….think Stanley are a bit ugly

My grandson has an air cup he says it makes his water taste yummy. I'm not sure how it works but he loves it.

I tried my granddaughters the other day. It only works if you’re able to breathe in through your nose and drink at the same time. Otherwise you get a smell of something sickly sweet before you get a mouthful of normal water.

ChannelLightVessel · 27/03/2024 07:42

Having lived in the US for several years, I find the American adult preference for drinking with a straw baffling. I am not six.

Do the influencers use huge cups to make themselves look small and dainty?

You might be on to something here

I hear you. You have to give the creators of this (and Yeti and similar brands) and their marketing people credit though. Absolute genius, such a boring everyday item going viral. And now they're keeping the buzz alive with stupid accessories and limited edition colours etc.

Apparently the marketing manager was the one previuosly responsible for the Crocs come back.

I confess I really did think you meant the ice hockey trophy. The Stanley Cup is like the FA Cup, or the Ashes or the Super Bowl. It’s massively famous.

Has a company really used that name? Seems a bit daft.

No, they haven’t. It’s called the Stanley Quencher Tumbler.

What's being six got to do with it?

Depending on what you're drinking, straws can be good for your teeth. They're also easier to drink from if you're driving.

mitogoshi · 27/03/2024 07:56

I have a knock off version of a chillies bottle, now 5 years old and it's fine. But I don't like straws. The key thing is dies it keep the water chilled? 500ml is enough for me.

QuiltedHippo · 27/03/2024 07:57

I like mine as I'm a huge water drinker and it saves me a trip to the water cooler at work with a smaller bottle. Easy to clean and really good insulation.

HOWEVER it doesn't fit in my cup holder in the car, must be made for big American cars. Its a bit leaky. And I'd never want to drag it around with me if I went into town or something.

HowToSaveAWife · 27/03/2024 07:58

Not a Stanley cup but... I'm ND, I have sensory issues about water that isn't ice cold and I also forget to drink water....

Having a large cup that I know is 1L or whatever and keeps my water cold is a life saver. Ready for me to drink, I remember to drink when I see it and I also know how much water I've had based on how empty the cup is.

The viral marketing annoys me... I've been using similar cups for years and I'd hate for anyone to think I've been influenced but it really is a lifesaver 🙈

notamumyet2010 · 27/03/2024 07:58

I have to admit I love mine-I didn’t buy it tho, it was a gift from my boss at work. I was so touched tho as we normally only do token gifts but it’s been a rough start of the year work wise and I think she was being extra kind.
It’s a great bottle and I use it every day. No way I would pay for one tho. Crazy money. So in conclusion lovely for a gift but anyone who buys one for themself….madness 🤣

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 27/03/2024 08:00

Tippexy · 27/03/2024 07:52

No, they haven’t. It’s called the Stanley Quencher Tumbler.

That makes more sense. Someone’s pointed out that it’s the Stanley screwdrivers etc company. I can’t believe they’ve never heard of the Stanley Cup.

So it’s others’ shorthand.

If it’s Stanley tools, presumably it’s a big, rugged water bottle. I’m not sure why a water bottle would need to be like that though, unless you can also bang nails in with it.

The power of tiktok

They are for YouTubers who do things like put make up on or do their hair while talking to the camera and have recently developed specific hand gestures to help make whatever fascinating point they are making seem important.

The hand gestures are known as lobster hands 😂

So it’s too big and bulky and it leaks? Why not just get a watering can? 😂

???

Just have drink of water with each meal and a tea or coffee break mid morning and mid afternoon.

How do you manage other aspects of your life? Just decide some sensible rehydration times and then just... do it!

Side note - Any advice that starts with "Just..." is usually hokey and not worth the energy taken to express it.

And in this case, it definitely is. With ADHD it never works to say "just do it". We're not stupid and have already thought of that.

I use a big copper water bottle, as copper keeps the bacteria at bay.

SoupDragon · 27/03/2024 08:14

What is wrong with people?

I'm not talking about those buying this cup, I'm talking about the posters sniping about the drinking habits of other posters and being bloody rude.

muddyford · 27/03/2024 08:14

Thought this was a football trophy sponsored by a DIY knife company.
