Pretty much that.
I'm going to Gran Canaria for a week in 7 weeks time and I should be excited as it was a valentines present from OH
But he's booked a 6am flight
We are staying at an airport hotel the night before which is literally 2 mins walk to terminal (and small airport ) but I'm dreading it.
I hate being tired and will need to be up at 2.30am really.
We are going to Rhodes in September and it's a lovely 3pm flight.
I'm just filled with dread and worrying about being tired the whole day.
Aibu to feel this way ?

YANBU

HotChocWine · 25/02/2024 12:26

Yep you are

WetBandits · 25/02/2024 12:26

Go to sleep earlier, or nap on the flight?

Or don’t go 🤷🏼‍♀️

Deebee90 · 25/02/2024 12:27

I would rather have an early morning flight then an afternoon one any day. You can rest and nap on the plane Be there for lunchtime and then relax or snooze by the pool. With an afternoon or evening flight you waste the day waiting to go to the airport. Can’t think of anything worse and I work in one.

Bilingualspingual · 25/02/2024 12:27

Couldn’t you be up and just before 4am and leave the hotel 4.15? Why such an early get up?

OdinsHorse · 25/02/2024 12:27

Why do you need to be up at 230?
You won't need to be at the airport until 4 at the earliest?

MuttsNutts · 25/02/2024 12:27

Yes, you’re being miserable. You can grab some rest on the plane even if you don’t sleep. Just get an early night and spend the first day by the pool when you get there so that you can catch up.

I’m assuming you don’t have DC, in which case I would have some sympathy.

Parker231 · 25/02/2024 12:28

Best time to fly as you have a full day when you get there. If you’re dreading it, don’t go?

parietal · 25/02/2024 12:28

Why will you need to be up at 2am? 6am flight and hotel that close would mean up at 3;30, dress, check in then get breakfast and snooze on the plane. Not massively fun but all do-able.

Cheeesus · 25/02/2024 12:28

I don’t think you need to be up at 2.30am? What’s your logic with timings?

CacenCaws · 25/02/2024 12:28

Yabu! You will be on the beach by lunchtime! Why would you want to arrive late and miss most of the first day of your holiday?

girlfriend44 · 25/02/2024 12:28

You'll have the rest of the day when you get there. Go to bed a little early.
Be excited and happy to be going away. The holiday will soon come and go.

AppleKatie · 25/02/2024 12:28

You don’t need to get up at 2.30.

I’d get up at 3.30 and be in the terminal for 4am. Breakfast and power through to the flight. Nap on the plane. Spend the first day snoozing by the pool. Lovely.

Pickledperr · 25/02/2024 12:28

I detest an early flight and understand why this bothers but I think you need to decide what is more important. He's made a fairly grand gesture and been generous. He hasn't gotten it exactly right. Are you really angry about other things? I think if you can't go graciously tell him you don't really fancy it and see if he can find someone else to go with.

Rosiiee · 25/02/2024 12:29

First world problems haha. Just go to bed extra early and have a nap on the plane?

GrandHighPoohbah · 25/02/2024 12:29

I don't like early flights, but you really don't need to be up at 2.30am if you're staying right there at the airport. You can also do bag drop the night before with some airlines so you can turn up later on the day. For 6am flight I would arrive at 4.30am earliest as security might not even be open before that.

getionnn · 25/02/2024 12:29

Get up at 2.30 to put a little make up on and be at airport for 3
It's with Ryanair so need to check in suitcase then go through security then grab breakfast
Normally board 30 mins before which is 5.30 am

we did a 6am to Salou the other year it just seems to be the flight time, anyway i hated getting up so I didn't go to bed I faffed about getting ready and we left here about 3am we are not far from the airport. anyway I snoozed on the plane ate at usual times and went to bed early that night.

ItsMintUpNorth · 25/02/2024 12:29

I avoid early morning flights for the same reasons but it wouldn't put me off a whole holiday, especially one that was booked for me as a nice gesture.

Also agree why such an early start? I would be leaving the hotel at 4 at the earliest, so a 3.30 wake up.

WaitingfortheTardis · 25/02/2024 12:29

Just have a nap when you get there if you'll be too tired to enjoy the rest of the day. Nothing to get all worried about.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 25/02/2024 12:29

Filled with dread about a minor inconvenience in seven weeks time....? If that's meant to be hyperbole for comic effect, it hasn't worked.

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 25/02/2024 12:30

ahh op! Crack on!
Have you got kids that you will need to cope with when you have all had less sleep for one half a day?

Maireas · 25/02/2024 12:30

YABU - it's not a bad time to fly.
I've flown at all hours of the day and night. You sleep on the plane or when you get to the hotel.
It's fine.

Snowpatrolling · 25/02/2024 12:31

Love an early flight, brekkie at the airport, get to holiday in time for dumping suitcases then lunch, wonder round to get your bearings, get some tea then early night then up fresh for the next day!
I hate late flights home though as when it’s time to go home I just want to go! lol!

Itneverrainsinsocal · 25/02/2024 12:31

Gosh. I have a terrible fear of flying. Really wish my only worry on holiday was being tired because of an early flight lol.

unless you have a medical condition, I’m not sure why you can’t cope with one early start? It’s a bit of a slog but there’s also the beautiful sunrise, and you’re on a bit of a buzz from going away… a few lazy cocktails and an early night, you’ll be fine!
