Pretty much that.
I'm going to Gran Canaria for a week in 7 weeks time and I should be excited as it was a valentines present from OH
But he's booked a 6am flight
We are staying at an airport hotel the night before which is literally 2 mins walk to terminal (and small airport ) but I'm dreading it.
I hate being tired and will need to be up at 2.30am really.
We are going to Rhodes in September and it's a lovely 3pm flight.
I'm just filled with dread and worrying about being tired the whole day.
Aibu to feel this way ?

OP posts:

YABU. Early flights are the best flights as you can be on the beach by lunchtime.

You won't be able to check in three hours early either, so there's absolutely no point getting up at 2.30am when you're only two minutes from the airport.

Maireas · 25/02/2024 12:41

It's a really thoughtful Valentine's gift.
Plus you're going to Rhodes in September.
Just look at all the positives when you get the feeling of dread.

Gran Canaria isn’t classed as an international flight - you only need to be there at 4. Desk won’t even be open until then.

It's definitely an international flight. You don't need to be there 3 hours before though.

isn't it ? what would be classed as an international flight then because I thought we were not I n the EU anymore.

Janetime · 25/02/2024 12:43

I don’t like it either, but I can’t imagine it ruining my holiday or stressing about it 2 months before hand. You can just chill the first day, it’s not like you need to go and work on a chain gang,

Hobnobswantshernameback · 25/02/2024 12:44

Seriously get a grip
or give me your ticket and I'll go

Of course it is international 😂

you only get international or domestic and last time I looked Gran Canaria was not in thr uk.

Lordofmyflies · 25/02/2024 12:46

YABU. Check in wont open until 4am. Check with your airline and you maybe able to drop your checked luggage the evening before.
You keep your overnight things and liquids in hand luggage, you buy a fast pass for security. Set your alarm for 4.15am, get up, 2 mins to airport and with fast pass, you'll be at the gate by 5am. Nap on the plane and you'll have all day at the resort.

What is it then? Because it's certainly not a domestic flight.

BobbyBiscuits · 25/02/2024 12:47

It's not ideal but you are sleeping in a hotel right near the terminal. Bring a blanket and pillow, Snooze while waiting for flight, get something to eat, then you'll sleep the whole journey probably. Then have the whole day to enjoy. You might need to go to bed a little early, but it shouldn't ruin it for you.

Exactly.

It will open at 3. Like her boarding pass says, why are folks posting nonsense,

Namechangedforthis25 · 25/02/2024 12:47

What a charmed life you live that this is what you worry about

Rosiiee · 25/02/2024 12:48

@lifebeginsaftercoffee I think she maybe meant long-haul.

OP it says to arrive 3 hours ahead on every international flight's boarding pass. But the check-ins don't open until 2 hours before. I wouldn't bother with the 3 hours ahead- especially as the airport will still be quiet this early in the AM so less wait.

Onelifeonly · 25/02/2024 12:48

We pretty much always book early morning flights. You get to the destination early to mid afternoon usually, have time to settle in and get your bearings or snooze if you're tired, before enjoying your evening.

We get late flights back too. That way you get the most possible time on holiday.

Getting up at 2.30 / 3.00 is no fun but you soon wake up and get on with it. Bet the airport will be heaving at that time too.

This is utter nonsense, some yes open 2 before, others 3 before. Hers is 3 before.

Her boarding pass doesn't say that, though.

It says to be at the airport three hours in advance, not that check-in is available that early.

sonjadog · 25/02/2024 12:50

Two hours is plenty. I would get up 3:40, shower and get dressed, roll across to the departure lounge and check in, go through passport control and find somewhere for a coffee and breakfast. Then if you really want to do make up, you can do it in the toilets there. No need to do it in the hotel when you get up.

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 25/02/2024 12:50

Our flight leaves at 6.35 from LHR, my DH will have me at the airport two days beforehand.🙄Just in case, I swear to God I have been to funerals where the death certificate has yet to be signed. 😂We call him Mr Previous.

We could have flown from LGW later in the day, but we do not trust the roadworks at junction 10 at the moment , due to go on for another two years I believe.

Anyway, we will travel in the spirit of the holiday, meet our driver, after usual pleasantries we will lapse into silence and observe the landscape. Get to the villa, drop our bags, go to the bar at the end of the beach, the very best spot for people watching.

Then head to our favourite seafood restaurant, again people watch and then head up the hill for a siesta.

Your holiday is what you make it.

PossumintheHouse · 25/02/2024 12:50

Your boyfriend has been kind enough to book you a week’s holiday as a Valentines present.
He’s also been thoughtful enough to book a hotel two minutes from the terminal.
You’re planning to get up at 2.30am because you want to put your make up on…

What a bastard.

Get a grip.

JellyBeanFactory · 25/02/2024 12:51

If you're staying at the airport, you can often checkin your cases the night before. Skips that queue, gives you another hour in bed!

strugglingnd · 25/02/2024 12:51

Snowpatrolling · 25/02/2024 12:31

Love an early flight, brekkie at the airport, get to holiday in time for dumping suitcases then lunch, wonder round to get your bearings, get some tea then early night then up fresh for the next day!
I hate late flights home though as when it’s time to go home I just want to go! lol!

This …I could have typed this word for word! Don’t be so miserable,am guessing you have never worked unsociable hours !

Loopytiles · 25/02/2024 12:53

YABU.

got a 6am Ryanair flight recently, didn’t need to be at the terminal until 4.15am.
