Hi All,

I am wondering if any of you decided to give to their little ones the single one component measle vaccine? ( babyjabs are offering it)

if yes how it turned out?

many thanks,

The issue with doing that is that you can't get single mumps or rubella, so they're going to have to have the MMR anyway.

CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk · 16/02/2024 15:13

Many years ago. But. ONLY because the MMR scandal was relatively new and hadn't been resolved, and ONLY Because I could have all three jabs done separately. As that's no longer an option I had my most recent child vaccinated with the MMR. I would however use that money to pay for a chickenpox vaccination instead and have the standard MMR. Chickenpox is a horrible illness that can cause complications and really easy and inexpensive to immunise against. If you can protect your child from it it's excellent IMO

randomchap · 16/02/2024 15:13

There is absolutely no reason not to give your child the mmr.

Wakefield was a fraud, anyone pushing the autism/mmr so called link is a bullshitter

Clotheshorses · 16/02/2024 15:14

I did then give the MMR 2 years later. DD was premature and staggering the jabs just made me more comfortable after what was quite a traumatic time and when she just seemed more robust. This was not medical advice btw just my own gut feeling.
Subsequent DC all had jabs as per the normal schedule.

bruffin · 16/02/2024 15:16

Babyjabs only offer it because they make money from offering it, why would you trust a company like that

ColleenDonaghy · 16/02/2024 15:24

No, because there's a perfectly safe vaccine that not only covers measles, but two other diseases I wouldn't want them to get either.

I also went with the 6 in 1 rather than searching for six individual jabs.

Worse than that, they're exploiting people's fear and ignorance.

Coyoacan · 16/02/2024 15:37

No medicine is perfectly safe. Doesn't mean we shouldn't take them if necessary.

Knickerbockerstory · 16/02/2024 15:39

I just had the measles and rubella vaccine not the mmr as part of an adult catch up was offered the mmr on the nhs but chose to get my gp to check my immunity to measles then I went and paid for the measles and rubella one as didn’t want the mumps part as well

100% this. Just give the child the MMR and protect them from horrific diseases.

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 16/02/2024 15:44

Why oh why oh why?

Can I ask why not?

Sunnnybunny72 · 16/02/2024 15:46

Single jabs aren't subject to the same stringent regulations as the others, there's no guarantee of no interrupted cold chain for example.
Wouldn't touch them.

VickyEadieofThigh · 16/02/2024 15:48

There was no MMR when I was a child. My brother got measles and was horribly ill with it - and a child who lived just up the road was left blind by it. I got German Measles as a young adult and it didn't cause me long-term harm (it's mostly harmful to a foetus, of course) but it was horrible painful.

Mumps causes sterility in men.

Get your children vaccinated.

dementedpixie · 16/02/2024 15:56

The only one available singly is the measles vaccine so you couldn't get a single mumps or rubella vaccine alongside. You'd be as well just getting the MMR

Rainbowunicornsparkles · 16/02/2024 15:57

What is baby jabs?

dementedpixie · 16/02/2024 15:57

Mumps caused my brother to be deaf in 1 ear when he caught it as a teenager. He hadn't had the mmr

I assume a private clinic that offers injections at a cost

I really, really hope we’re not seeing the return of the MN anti-vaxxers. The vax board was a swamp of dangerous bullshit. A few very smart and diligent MNers used to put in a lot of effort to shoot down the falsehoods. 👏

If this nonsense does break out again I think there should be a concerted effort to get MN to ban anti-vax posts. I very much doubt that MN would tolerate posts advocating the exposure of children to the risks of fire or road accidents or abuse. Why allow posts that encourage exposure to appalling diseases?

MixedCouple · 16/02/2024 16:02

Chickenpox was never an issue for me or anyone I went to school with. We had a party to spread it - parents. When I was 6 and I had it very mild as did most of my class matee and siblings. Bit itchy that was all. Wouldnt waste money on that.

We are delaying vaccinations due to a family friends child who died from childhood vaccinations, yes I know it is rare but being so close to home it scared us.

Thats a bit communist. Ever heard of free speech and free thinking.... Democracy?
If MN did that it wouldn't be welcoming to all people of all views.

Rainbowunicornsparkles · 16/02/2024 16:04

There are at least two MNetters from bygone days with children who reacted badly to the vaccine and were left permanently disabled as a result.

Of course, the majority of children have the vaccine and are fine. But a small minority are not fine. I don’t think that is being anti vax but some would say that it is.

Free speech does not apply to dangerous lies that undermine protection for children from infectious and other diseases.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/02/2024 16:12

That malign prick Wakefield is going for the Mumps vaccines now.

Expect lots of very ill children and sterile men. If they don't end up dying/deaf/otherwise harmed by Measles in the first place, they can look forward to being deprived of the chance to have children by their gullible parents.

If he gets away with this, it'll be Rubella next. All those women and babies for him to make millions from killing, bet he can't wait.
