How Often do you check your bank balance?

For me it's normally twice a day- my mum was shocked when I said that. She check once a week.
I have a friend who never checks. She works but her her husband is the breadwinner. She buys what she wants when wants including short trips ect.
I feel these are two extremes but what is normal?

Every couple of days - just to check that transactions have gone through, etc.

Never. Don't have online banking

0rangeCrush · 03/02/2024 17:45

I only check before we make a big purchase or when I’m aware we have gone a bit spend crazy.
Everything is direct debit and comes off on or just after payday, and our incidental spends like food are pretty consistent, so I only really check if we have been eating out a lot.
We aren’t really big spenders on material things; it’s mainly eating out.

doilooklikeicare · 03/02/2024 17:45

I've an app that alerts me to everything, so loads but not in any detail!

QueenBean22 · 03/02/2024 17:46

Several times a week

Aaron95 · 03/02/2024 17:46

About once a month. I'm fortunate we have enough (about 3 months wages) in the current account that I don't need to pay too much attention.

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 03/02/2024 17:47

Daily…. Sometimes more often. Those of you who don’t check- how would you spot fraud?
often fraudulent use consists of one small transaction then further larger ones. It’s easier to deal with if you catch the one small one!

I only use my credit card online; never debit.

Same here, I pay everything on a credit card and pay it off as I go along but annoyingly have to wait for the transactions to move out of pending status. So check every couple of days and pay it off when I’m allowed to.

Mairzydotes · 03/02/2024 17:49

A few times a week. Although, sometimes I check and then can't remember the balance and have to check again .

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 03/02/2024 17:50

Every two or three days, I have a budgeting spreadsheet with direct debits, online orders etc on & I tick them off as they go through.

AgentProvocateur · 03/02/2024 17:50

Never. I get a notification every time money goes in or out.

Boomer55 · 03/02/2024 17:51

Daily. Just to make sure nothing suspicious is going on. I know what I should have.

Sunglassesweather · 03/02/2024 17:52

Multiple times a day. I'm a bit obsessed with budgeting and saving!

Concestor · 03/02/2024 17:52

Once a month, to check my pay has gone in.

I can't imagine needing to check twice a day, I don't even spend money that often.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 03/02/2024 17:53

Usually once a day. This month is really tight, and I'm waiting for a few invoices to be paid. I've probably checked 10 times today.

Carnerloyle · 03/02/2024 17:53

CatOnTheLap · 03/02/2024 17:55

Daily. When I had credit cards I would check them every couple of days too. I even check the mortgage balance monthly!

TeenLifeMum · 03/02/2024 17:56

I check if a big transaction went through or refund etc. but don’t go on just to check balance usually, but I’ll log on to pay cleaner/dd1’s tutor/violin teacher and see the the balance then so I guess I sort of keep an eye.

My banking app sends alerts to my phone anytime anything goes in or out of my account.
