How Often do you check your bank balance?

For me it's normally twice a day- my mum was shocked when I said that. She check once a week.
I have a friend who never checks. She works but her her husband is the breadwinner. She buys what she wants when wants including short trips ect.
I feel these are two extremes but what is normal?

Never! My mum always checked every detail, and could tell you to the closest pound how much was in her current account. I might look if I'm expecting a refund, to see if it's gone through, but other than that, I don't bother.

Danikm151 · 03/02/2024 18:38

Everyday in the hope that I’ve magically come into money- hasn’t happened yet 😂

I have a bills account and spending account. I check the bills one about once a week to check the DDs have come out.

StarDolphins · 03/02/2024 18:39

Every morning without fail & sometimes at night too. I want to check my money is still there I guess!

OldTinHat · 03/02/2024 18:41

Couple of times a day.

Every morning to see what direct debits have gone out and what's pending. Later if I need to pop to the shops so I can work out, to the penny, what I can spend.

Oblomov23 · 03/02/2024 18:41

A couple of times a week.

betterangels · 03/02/2024 18:44

Every day. I need to know what I have left to spend on food and other necessary things.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 03/02/2024 18:45

It varies. Can go for we few weeks without checking, other times I check more often. Depends whether I need to move money around or not.

MrsPoliportsGoose · 03/02/2024 18:48

Every day. And I'm glad I do, I spotted an erroneous new pending direct debit over the weekend that came from sort of scam/click subscription which I managed to cancel.

Countrylife2002 · 03/02/2024 18:50

At least twice a day to make sure my budgeting is right. Oh to have enough money not to need to do this!

RandomUsernameHere · 03/02/2024 18:52

Not very often, as and when just to make sure there are no fraudulent transactions. We are lucky that we don't have any money worries, so there's no need for me to check there's enough.

Bunnyhopskip · 03/02/2024 18:56

Literally one a month when my wages go in. I prefer to take a blind eye approach. Probably not the best though

LisaD1 · 03/02/2024 18:56

Daily for me. DH hardly ever check it (joint). I just check the balance and make sure transactions are as expected.

EdgarsTale · 03/02/2024 18:57

Daily.

spiderplant56 · 03/02/2024 18:57

Pretty much daily... I do the same as previous poster and check outgoings off on spreadsheet.

I'd be interested to know if those who don't check regularly... do you manage to stick to budgets?

We used to be a lot of debt and big spenders so checking regularly keeps us on track and we now have savings for the first time in our lives!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/02/2024 19:00

My bank account was hacked twice in the sane day earlier this week, so about every 20 mins at the moment!!

Usually, every couple of days or so.

Notellinganyone · 03/02/2024 19:01

I check my app at least once a day - sometimes more. I like to keep tabs!

megletthesecond · 03/02/2024 19:02

Every day. I managed to stop a fraudulent payment that way a few years ago.

Roussette · 03/02/2024 19:03

I don't get notifications. So I check probably daily. Or more.

I have been waiting for a refund that I have had to fight for, so it was three times a day till I got it!

CustardySergeant · 03/02/2024 19:03

I never check it, as I know roughly how much is in there, but I do see what it is once a month when I pay my credit card bill.

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/02/2024 19:05

I posted "never" earlier. I don't know if I'm just lucky but my bank (First Direct) has always contacted me if there's suspicious activity on our account.

DragonFly98 · 03/02/2024 19:07

Daily because I pay my mortgage every day.

lifeispainauchocolat · 03/02/2024 19:08

I get a notification when payment goes in/out so I don't need to actively check it very often at all.

mouse70 · 03/02/2024 19:09

Every week day no point weekend or BANK holidays.

Lincslady53 · 03/02/2024 19:09

My bank sends a notification for every transaction, so a few times a day. As it is so easy on the app, I check it a couple of times a day anyway.

Vates · 03/02/2024 19:09

Every morning and whenever I spend on my debit card to make sure the correct amount has come out of the account (contactless show straight away on my pending part).
