To watch the same thing over and over because it brings comfort

I’ve recently discovered a TV series I love and it feels very comforting to me to watch it.
Each time I finish all the episodes I start them again. I’m on the 4th time in a row of watching them now.

My DP thinks I’m crazy and keeps asking why I’m not bored of it yet.

Am I mad or does anyone else do this?

Oooh what's the series??

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 19/01/2024 15:08

I've done this with The Good Place.

Eggsandspam · 19/01/2024 15:09

@Hipnotised

Its BBC Ghosts.

totally reasonable thing to do.

I will say that if oh is tired of it that's pretty reasonable too. But so long as you're prepared to mix it up there's no reason why you shouldn't watch tv that you like.

Doppelgangers · 19/01/2024 15:10

Not mad, I think most of us rewatch stuff that we enjoy but I would find it a little strange that you've immediately rewatched it 3 more times rather than watch something else and come back to it in future.

Yes - which one??

But also - if it gives you comfort then it sounds perfectly reasonable.
I rewatch old series for the same reason (although its hard to find the time theses days) - I don't do just one back to back admittedly but its very relaxing to know the characters and know that the series is well written etc..

XenoBitch · 19/01/2024 15:13

If you are enjoying it, and it brings you comfort, then carry on!

This sort of thing is not unusual at all, and you should not be made to feel bad or boring for it.

I absolutely do it too. Mainly Friends, Dinner Ladies and The Royle Family, but I also comfort watch Curb your enthusiasm and SATC when I'm in the mood.

lieselotte · 19/01/2024 15:15

My mum does this too but she lives alone so doesn't annoy anyone else doing it,

ProfessorInkling · 19/01/2024 15:15

I love a comfort watch. Ghosts is good for this, just gentle and easy. I like This Country too. I've been unwell for the last couple of weeks and have watched all of Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter...

KissTheRains · 19/01/2024 15:15

I can't sit and watch watch a show more than once... But... I can put shows I really love on in the background whilst I sit messing online, because I'm not watching it watching it, it's just kinda background iyswim.

Like Bluey. I could put that on every day and just have it as background. I love it.

Greenpolkadot · 19/01/2024 15:16

Ahh op.. I totally get it .
There's a lot of comfort in familiar things.
There's an old b and w film I love called 'This Happy Breed'. It's just easy watching..like a lovely soft blanket.

AlwaysGinPlease · 19/01/2024 15:17

I do it, one of them is Ghosts! The other is Friends. There's a few I like to rewatch. It's not hurting anyone.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 19/01/2024 15:17

I can also sit and watch Ghosts back to back over and over. It's wonderfully comforting, sort of emotional and funny and predictable and you feel like you know the characters.

Crack on, OP! (Favourite episode is the Captain's, of course).

Its BBC Ghosts.

Omg are you me??? I recently ‘discovered’ ghosts and have watched the whole series repeatedly, it’s like a nice cuppa and a biscuit for the soul 😂

My favourite episode is the camping one. And favourite line is where the Captain says to Kitty about caterpillars ‘coming out’ as butterflies, their true, fabulous selves.

I also have watched Jurassic Park at least twice a year for the last 30 years. I know most of the script by heart.

MeinKraft · 19/01/2024 15:18

I knew it would be Ghosts! I do this too! I've also been through stages of rewatching Plebs, Peep Show, Friends. There aren't as many episodes of Ghosts though so need a break from it every once in a while but yep it's my go to 'on in the background' TV. It's just so cosy and comforting.

BringOnFebBankHoliday · 19/01/2024 15:18

I completely understand! I go through phases like this, mainly Friends, How I met your Mother..... other easy watching stuff.

Have you seen ghosts though!?

When it’s finished you really miss the characters 😂

ButteryBiscuitBaseBiscuitBase · 19/01/2024 15:20

I do that until it becomes so comforting it sends me to sleep! Keeping Up Appearances, Mr. Bean, The Thin Blue Line and Frost do it to me.

Babymamma192 · 19/01/2024 15:21

@Whatineed ahh dinner ladies! I love it so much my dad bought me the box set when I was in high school 😂
Could quote it word for word I've watched it that many times. Definitely a comfort program for me.

Mufflepuff · 19/01/2024 15:21

I do the same with Ghosts and Friends. Just started watching US versions of Ghosts (it's on iplayer). Same story but with a few differences. I don't think it's as good as the UK version though.

Its BBC Ghosts.

Ghosts can be watched and rewatched you are very much not unreasonable. I watch Death in Paradise on repeat.

BouleDeSuif · 19/01/2024 15:24

My comfort viewing is zombie horror, I watch/rewatch something every night before bed. Ghosts is a lot less peculiar than that!
