To watch the same thing over and over because it brings comfort

I’ve recently discovered a TV series I love and it feels very comforting to me to watch it.
Each time I finish all the episodes I start them again. I’m on the 4th time in a row of watching them now.

My DP thinks I’m crazy and keeps asking why I’m not bored of it yet.

Am I mad or does anyone else do this?

I really want to get into k-drama - what do you recommend?

The first one I watched was Crash Landing on You. I loved it, and could happily watch it again. There is a Kdrama thread on here somewhere, and there is a recommendation list of all the genres of Kdrama.

oh I have a feeling you are in the FB group 😀

There’s a Facebook group 😮? I hadn’t even thought to look on there rushes off to take a look

I was very thankful that day that one of the members of our tour group noticed I couldn’t get my camera to work, so kindly sent me her photos from the visit.

I really liked Familiar Wife. In the spirit of this thread I've watched that twice actually

dizzydizzydizzy · 19/01/2024 21:36

Doesn't do anyone any harm so why not! I do this too but I'm autistic and have always put this pleasure down to my asd traits.

Cheesyfootballs01 · 19/01/2024 21:56

Me too!

I always watch:

Father Brown
Murdoch Mysteries
Inspector George Gently
Death in Paradise
My Family

Films:

The Lord of the Rings
The Mummy
The Mummy Returns
Any Carry On Film

janicegarvey · 19/01/2024 22:04

@27Mankinis

Me too! I always imagined it was shit canned laughter type stuff but for some random reason my teenagers got into it so we all started watching it

It was defo best when the garveys were in it

LightenUpTheRideIsShort · 19/01/2024 22:10

I do this. Apparently it’s common in anxiety sufferers.

The Big Bang theory
friends
modern family
The Goldbergs
Young Sheldon
I have just rewatched the whole of Ghosts and was wondering if it was too soon to start again as, when I got to the last few, DH said ‘you only just watched this’.

Rockfordpeach · 19/01/2024 22:14

I rewatch Schitt's Creek regularly: the comfort, humour and lack of anything stressful soothes me

I also rewatch The West Wing, Gilmore Girls (although Lorelai annoys me more and more as I get older) and ER. I'm currently on a Grey's Anatomy rewatch

fedupwithbeinghot · 19/01/2024 22:27

At one point, I watched Schtisel three times in a row. It's in Hebrew and Yiddish so by the third watching, I was even starting to understand some of the dialogue. If it brings you comfort, keep watching!

notthisagainn · 19/01/2024 22:32

I've watched fellow travellers more than once or twice

QueSyrahSyrah · 19/01/2024 22:38

Not at all. There's a podcast I must have listened to 20 times when I was going through a difficult time, because the guest is a dear friend of mine and his voice brings me comfort.

As long as you're not making the rest of the family watch over and over, where's the harm.

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 19/01/2024 22:46

I do this, and funnily enough was having a convo with DH about it earlier, he was saying how he doesn't really get rewatching stuff as he can already remember it all.
Me - no, that's not the point at all, it's like a comfort blanket!
I never tire of watching Friends. If I get near the last episode I just restart from the beginning again 😁
Or just dip in and out.watching favourite episodes.
I watch it most days or just have on sometimes in the background

Grumpsy · 19/01/2024 22:50

I do this with greys anatomy, the crown, madmen, GOT (I skip season 8) and the Harry Potter films, drives my husband mad 😅

VelvetShrimp · 19/01/2024 22:51

It's Peep Show, Alan Partridge and Kath & Kim for me.😁

I think it stems from what we watched at a more carefree time.I paid attention to it then, so I can just watch it in the background and know it and enjoy it now on days where things are difficult.

cockadoodledandy · 19/01/2024 22:53

Absolutely nothing wrong with this. I’m currently re reading a series of books end on end because it brings me mental calm. I finished it the first time, tried to read another series but couldn’t, and had to go back. If it makes you happy do it. I habitually re read series of books and watch TV shows over and over.

Me too with Schitts Creek. David is every emotion I’ve ever felt.

VelvetShrimp · 19/01/2024 22:53

Also, I was once in a situation that was new and difficult, and I sort of subconsciously just chose to watch a Harry Potter film. I'm not particularly into HP, but it was comforting and familiar and it really helped to get me through a slightly fearful time. Like an old soft blanket of familiarity.

coxesorangepippin · 19/01/2024 22:54

I do this all the time!

Escape to the country

Monty Don

Penelope Keith's hidden villages

Any cooking shows

Basically any easy watching

LunaNorth · 19/01/2024 23:00

Me too.

Ghosts
Schitt’s Creek
To The Manor Born
Father Ted
The IT Crowd
Friends
Auf Wiedershein, Pet

All perfect comfort viewing.

Catsmere · 19/01/2024 23:08

Now that makes a lot of sense. I don't like surprises and right now, at a stressful time, I'm watching all my recordings of Antiques Roadshow, which I've seen many times.

I could have written that, almost word for word 😊

CustardySergeant · 19/01/2024 23:25

I watch The Big Bang Theory every single day on E4 and E4 plus. I don't care how many times I've seen an episode, it's supremely comforting to me. I just love it so much.

DearJamie · 19/01/2024 23:28

I watched Ghosts recently and absolutely loved it. I will watch it again but not right away. I have been trying to find nice and gentle shows recently. I rewatched the Vicar of Dibley, which was lovely and nostalgic. And I also really, really love The Detectorists. I tried the US Ghosts but just wasn’t feeling it.

catcoaster · 19/01/2024 23:42

Nestofwalnuts · 19/01/2024 15:34

I used to do that with a particular series. And I've done it loads with Legally Blonde which is my feelgood film if I have flu or feel really low. Never fails to inspire.

Might have to rewatch Detectorists.

Detectorists is the only series I’ve rewatched, it’s my comfort programme.

LankylegsFromOz · 19/01/2024 23:44

I feel the same, watching the Avatar movies. Because I want to live in Pandora 🙂
