To watch the same thing over and over because it brings comfort

I’ve recently discovered a TV series I love and it feels very comforting to me to watch it.
Each time I finish all the episodes I start them again. I’m on the 4th time in a row of watching them now.

My DP thinks I’m crazy and keeps asking why I’m not bored of it yet.

Am I mad or does anyone else do this?

Ahh op.. I totally get it .
There's a lot of comfort in familiar things.
There's an old b and w film I love called 'This Happy Breed'. It's just easy watching..like a lovely soft blanket.

I love this film. I always think Friends nicked the ending of the film where they show the empty house for the last ever Friends episode. Some of the old classics are just the best.

My DD and I binged the whole of the Pride and Prejudice series in a day over Christmas. Currently watching Gilmore Girls again - not sure what to re-watch next, did Downton not that long ago. Not quite ready for Ghosts again yet.

Hopefully get some ideas from this thread

Throwawayme · 19/01/2024 23:49

No, you're not mad! I have a few comfort series. Frasier, ER, Buffy.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/01/2024 23:57

I do this!
Call the midwife
Vera
Doc Martin
Dinner ladies

whyamiawakestill · 20/01/2024 00:00

I do this, Gavin and Stacy, Miranda and friends are mine.

I've never watched ghosts is that bbc?

It's Downton Abbey for me. Makes me feel calm and I love the aesthetics of it all. Got to be 6-7 times I have watched every series now. (The second film only once though. It was a bit like candy floss and tied things up too nicely).

The earlier series with Matthew were the best IMO

egowise · 20/01/2024 00:17

I have a few shows on rotation 😁

Cathy31 · 20/01/2024 00:17

I have done this with 2 tv series, both at times when I was going through something very stressful (understatement!). Definitely think something in the series was helping me process something in my life. I watched and rewatched, over and over. No harm, don't see why anyone would have a problem with it!

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 20/01/2024 00:21

I have TV shows which I rewatch all the time. Brings me comfort.

My comfort viewing is zombie horror, I watch/rewatch something every night before bed. Ghosts is a lot less peculiar than that!

Mine is Jaws! It's always just a click away when I'm home

I never heard of Ghosts until just now, it looks interesting so thanks for the tip

CeeCeeBloom · 20/01/2024 00:43

No, I'd say it's pretty common. If I'm feeling a bit down I'll put Friends or Buffy the Vampire Slayer on. Couldn't tell you how many times I've rewatched them since they first aired.

Imnotthemonalisa · 20/01/2024 01:01

Another one for Detectorists here. Also, BBC Pride and Prejudice if I'm off work sick.

Iwannabeacrocodilehunter · 20/01/2024 01:05

I’ve watched Frozen II three times this week, including last night and tonight. I watched it half a dozen times over the Christmas break. I don’t have young children. I watch it by myself. DH also thinks I’m mad. But it de-stresses me.

foxlover47 · 20/01/2024 01:06

I do this , I veer between a few , Absolutely fabulous , This country and keeping up appearances
, I do watch the new things and regular things like eastenders but them three are pretty much on repeat , even as background noise when I'm doing ironing etc

SurelySmartie · 20/01/2024 02:13

Psychoville
Some episodes of Inside No. 9
Dog rescue videos on YouTube

SurelySmartie · 20/01/2024 02:16

I’ve watched series 1 of Nighty Night quite a few times as well.

Margaritasandmojitos · 20/01/2024 02:36

I do that, too. I love to watch all the Poirot shows with David Suchet and the Miss. Marple with Joan Hickson.

Scorchio84 · 20/01/2024 04:39

I’ve watched series 1 of Nighty Night quite a few times as well.

I love Nighty Night! No one in my life really knows it though apart from OH, same with "The League of Gentlemen" absolute bonkers comedy gold!

Tilllly · 20/01/2024 04:40

Gilmore Girls
It's like seeing old friends

Few others I've seen more than once, series and film

And I re-read

Catsmere · 20/01/2024 04:44

@Tilllly same here - if I don't want to read a book multiple times, it's a failure and not worthy of shelf space in my home.

wanttogetadvice · 20/01/2024 05:22

For me it's Community and Boston Legal.

Babyblackbear78 · 20/01/2024 05:24

Grey’s Anatomy, Bones and Big Bang Theory are my go to.

everygreensock · 20/01/2024 06:58

I've listened to In and Out of the Kitchen - all series and episodes about 5 times now. Its gentle and comforting. I love it. Was sad that it didn't seem to successfully transfer to tv very well.
DH and I often watch an (older) Alan Partridge episode in bed before we fall asleep. We've seen all of them so many times now that we're endlessly making Alan Partridge jokes with each other.

I was told it’s an anxiety / ADHD trait

I am a fellow rewatcher and mine is friends!

I do it because of that I think but husband who definitely does not have anxiety also does , so it could just be when you really really like something. His is the wire , sopranos and latterly ghosts. He seems to rewatch ones he thinks are really good, really well made though whereas I know some of mine are quite appalling!

TorroFerney · 20/01/2024 07:15

Just remembered I do it on long haul flights too. Specifically Game night with the woman who plays Regina Thorne in mean girls. Husband said that film is on x streaming service - me, I only watch it on a plane! I watched it three times in the last long flight, granted I kept falling asleep so missed bits.

Vanillarose1 · 20/01/2024 07:52

@MistyMemory

I have this too! When I watch a series or film I've seen before for the second or more times, I can't remember a single thing. It's brand new to me. DH thinks it's odd. I never had any idea what the cause could be but I also have temporal lobe epilepsy so, based on our non scientific sample of two, it sounds like that's definitely a factor!
