To watch the same thing over and over because it brings comfort

I’ve recently discovered a TV series I love and it feels very comforting to me to watch it.
Each time I finish all the episodes I start them again. I’m on the 4th time in a row of watching them now.

My DP thinks I’m crazy and keeps asking why I’m not bored of it yet.

Am I mad or does anyone else do this?

I just realised I do it with food too Grin

PupInAPram · 19/01/2024 16:00

I've watched every season of game of thrones 3 times. TWD all seasons, twice through. Endgame about 20!

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 19/01/2024 16:00

I'm on a sort of constant rewatch of greys anatomy. There are so many seasons that it's like painting the forth bridge - once I get to the end I'm ready to start again.

I don't watch it every night or anything, so watching the whole lots takes me ages (~w2 years maybe). But it's conforting to just dip into.

I do this with Santa Clarita Diet and What We Do in the Shadows, and I totally see how Ghosts would work too. Solidarity!

CornflakeGirl18 · 19/01/2024 16:08

I love Ghosts and totally get re-watching something because of the comforting feel it gives you. I do this with comedies such as Blackadder and dinnerladies on Gold and I enjoy a yearly re-watch of the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. As a teenager I used to watch Dirty Dancing on a weekly basis!

Oakdog · 19/01/2024 16:08

Ghosts and Dectorists constantly in our house!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 19/01/2024 16:09

I could do the with The Royle Family.
I'm on a fb group for it and some people do watch the episodes.on repeat.

amylou8 · 19/01/2024 16:10

IT crowd is mine, couldn't tell you how many times I watched it and it still makes me laugh.

marshmallowfinder · 19/01/2024 16:14

Detectorists for me!

nottoday300 · 19/01/2024 16:16

Yep! Harry Potter all of them !

ClaireEclair · 19/01/2024 16:17

I do this with Downton Abbey, Friends and Sex and the City.

Wbeezer · 19/01/2024 16:18

I've just rewatched the original All Creatures Great and Small, all 79 episodes. I also reread favourite books if I'm feeling a bit fragile.
Rewatching things for comfort is talked about a lot in ADHD and Autism groups, don't think it's exclusive to ND people though.

justaboutdonenow · 19/01/2024 16:19

I have a whole load of comfort films & TV series, I have comfort video games, radio series & books as well.

Ghosts is great, only a recent discovery for me, but it's a hot contender for addition to my lists!

ExtremelyJoyous · 19/01/2024 16:19

Normal and very common! Applies to lots of things not just tv ☺️

janicegarvey · 19/01/2024 16:21

I do this

With Benidorm (hence my name 😂), The office both uk and US, extras, Derek, afterlife, this country, peep show, the list goes on

Chanhedforthis · 19/01/2024 16:22

I do this with Peep Show

janicegarvey · 19/01/2024 16:23

Oh and Detectorists is a good one too 😍😍

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/01/2024 16:26

This came up when I was in counselling as I am the same. Apparently it’s a recognised thing and quite common.

Singleandproud · 19/01/2024 16:28

I do it with Twilight, it's rubbish and teeny but if Ive had a rubbish day it's a good watch.

As a child I wore out the VHS of Mary Poppins and Robin Hood

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 19/01/2024 16:29

I rewatch things I like but not over and over again!

AitkenDrum1970 · 19/01/2024 16:29

I re-watch The Detectorists regularly! Very comforting

I can also sit and watch Ghosts back to back over and over. It's wonderfully comforting, sort of emotional and funny and predictable and you feel like you know the characters.

Crack on, OP! (Favourite episode is the Captain's, of course).

My favourite episode is Moonah!

itsmyp4rty · 19/01/2024 16:35

Motherland is my go to as it always makes me laugh.

DahliaMacNamara · 19/01/2024 16:37

I love Ghosts, and Detectorists, and This Country. At the moment it's This Country I'm re-watching.
I have another show I have constantly on series watch. I've been re-watching it for at least 12 years. I feel that, as I can happily snooze through it if it relaxes me enough, it doesn't count as having seen every episode eleventy billion times.

Oh yes! Twilight was another back to back watch for me. Repeatedly.
