To watch the same thing over and over because it brings comfort

I’ve recently discovered a TV series I love and it feels very comforting to me to watch it.
Each time I finish all the episodes I start them again. I’m on the 4th time in a row of watching them now.

My DP thinks I’m crazy and keeps asking why I’m not bored of it yet.

Am I mad or does anyone else do this?

Oh yes! My comfort program is Gavin and Stacey

betterangels · 19/01/2024 18:01

I totally do this. Always have..

It's usually Buffy or a crime show. I put it on when I'm getting chores done.

imnotthatkindofmum · 19/01/2024 18:02

As a family we've watched ghosts through 3 times. I've watched friends on repeat forever. It's like I cba to think so I just put on an old faithful and watch again!!

mrssunshinexxx · 19/01/2024 18:05

I've watched loads on repeat, friends , peep show, Friday night dinner , mother land

Americano75 · 19/01/2024 18:22

Usually Downton on the laptop if I'm in the kitchen (although currently rewatching Desperate Housewives) and Schitts Creek at bedtime. So no, not weird!

ohdeerohdear · 19/01/2024 18:26

I have done this with Friends and Shites Creek. I am usually doing something like emails or washing up, so it's on in the background. I agree that it is comforting.

xyz111 · 19/01/2024 18:34

I've watched Friends like a billion times. If something makes you happy, do it!!

Mrsjayy · 19/01/2024 18:38

Shites creek 😂@ohdeerohdear

Frostyloz · 19/01/2024 18:39

I do it with Greg’s Anatomy and Parks and Rec. I do it with films too. I think it’s comforting and it requires less effort to watch something you’ve already seen.

EffieGraysDisappointingWeddingNight · 19/01/2024 18:44

If someone close to me was watching the same series on loop and were now on their fourth watch in a row I would wonder if all was okay in their world.

Puddycatfan · 19/01/2024 18:50

Comfort tv for me is The Detectorists. For reasons I can't quite put my finger on, it relaxes me and feels like a big hug.

BrendaMcPherson · 19/01/2024 18:52

I pretty much watch Dinnerladies, Early Doors, The Office, Gavin and Stacey, The Royle Family and Car Share in rotation throughout the year. Very comforting.

Cornishclio · 19/01/2024 18:53

I do that with Friends, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family. I like Ghosts too. Even though I have seen them many times before they still make me laugh.

PurpleSky09 · 19/01/2024 18:53

I’ve always done this. I have probably watched midsomer murders thousands of times 😂 If it makes you happy then why not.

Nellodee · 19/01/2024 19:00

My husband is just finishing his sixth or seventh watch of The Wire. I think he’s seen Peaky Blinders about five times. Breaking Bad three times. The Office, Peepshow, Trailer Park Boys….

I wouldn’t by choice watch anything a second time within about five years, but I can understand the appeal of rewatching things rather than spending an hour clicking round trying to find something new. Fortunately, I like k-drama, sci-fi, horrors, survival reality, and loads of other trashy tv, so never really have problems finding something to watch.

Thereisnoname · 19/01/2024 19:03

Nope definitely not put of order or odd, although as peoe have said bit harsh making others sit through things many times.
I've just watched the same film about 4 times this week.

LooksLikeIPickedTheWrongWeekToQuitDrinking · 19/01/2024 19:10

Yep, I get it. I like a bit of Frasier, Brooklyn 99, Downton, Shetland, Ghosts, Breaking Bad. Have seen all of them more than once. They're like old friends.
I do like new things, scary things, horrible things... but sometimes you need something gentle and comfy (not that BB is gentle and comfy, but it's familiar at least!)

MissMarplesNiece · 19/01/2024 19:11

@Nestofwalnuts Detectorists is one of my comfort watches, there's something life affirming about it.

I also love a couple of quite old series - Lovejoy and Pie In The Sky.

@Hipnotised

Its BBC Ghosts.

I actually rewatched the whole set recently, few episodes each night, to help me when going through a difficult time, it was very comforting, like a mug of hot chocolate, so I can really relate!

I really want to get into k-drama - what do you recommend?

Catsmere · 19/01/2024 19:20

I do that all the time. I have watched Time Team, New Tricks, MASH, Foyle’s War, Midsomer Murders and others innumerable times over the years. Got them all on DVD.

BobbyBiscuits · 19/01/2024 19:21

I do this with music. I hear a track I suddenly latch onto and then listen to it constantly, maybe 30x a day, almost like I'm trying to squeeze all the enjoyment out of it, all the emotion and feeling. Then suddenly, I will have no interest and never listen to it again. If I do, it sounds awful! Like totally flat. As if it's an empty shell.

hby9628 · 19/01/2024 19:21

I do this with friends. Absolutely love it

I've just started to rewatch shitts creek too.

welovetv · 19/01/2024 19:25

I've watched Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice multiple times over many years. I totally get it! It's your comfort show, it's lush to have one (or more)!
