To ask you to show me your fridge?

Please!

I'm somewhat fascinated by people's fridges. Whenever I watched MTV cribs when younger I only cared about what was inside the fridges.

Anyone else like me?

I'll start with mine. (Yes I know it's not very well organised but I did a food shop today and had to rush and put it away before doing the school run)

Bottom drawers: fruit and veg
Bottom shelf: fruit and veg that doesn't fit in drawers
Next shelf: yogurts, dairy and desserts.
Next shelf: meat, fish and poultry with fresh pasta as I couldn't fit it anywhere else
Next shelf: miscellaneous stuff

I know it's not very organised. :)

To ask you to show me your fridge?

Oooh love this thread already!

We only ever seem to do them at Christmas! 😁

I'll do mine when I've done the shopping, as it's pretty empty right now and needs a clean.

Celticliving · 16/01/2024 17:48

I'm currently in hospital so can't share my fridge with you but I am looking forward to this thread!!

baldpenguine · 16/01/2024 17:50

I'm so glad I'm not the only one, whenever I'm round someone's house and they open the fridge I always subtly have a look.

I just like to see what other people eat and how they organise it 😂

And before the moaners start about COL etc, blah blah blah.

The thread title's pretty clear and the back button is up there ^^ 🙄

MN also has a facility enabling you to hide threads.

Meat should always be at the bottom, cross contamination. The door is the warmest part of the fridge, milk is meant to be stored in the main body, I know drippage.

KissMyArt · 16/01/2024 17:52

These threads also make me realise I never buy cream but I don't know why? 😂

I wanted to say the same thing.

KissMyArt · 16/01/2024 17:54

Fuck dripping milk all over the fridge, I'd rather store it in the door like I have all my life.

It's never made a difference to the freshness Blush

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/01/2024 17:55

OK I give up, what is the item on the top shelf - that looks like the sun ?

I’m going to guess a tall tub of soup on its side, with fridge light shining through…

(maybe this should be the game?!)

That's a Thai noodle soup at a wonky angle

Oh no! Meat goes at the bottom? I've been storing my meat wrong for the best part of 10 years.. oops.

I shall move it. (When I can be arsed)

Im sure you aren't supposed to keep eggs in the fridge. Prepared to be told I'm wrong on this one and it's probably some old wives tale I've heard it from.

bananabreadbatshit · 16/01/2024 17:57

@Redshoeblueshoe I was wondering that too. I've decided it's a tub of broccoli and Stilton soup Grin

Oh Jesus.

So meat on bottom shelf
Milk on a shelf (somehow, I have no room)
And eggs out the fridge.

Keep them coming, I just bung everything in and hope for the best!

Semi correct-they can be stored at room temp although there’s no harm storing them in the fridge. In countries that don’t vaccinate chickens against Salmonella they should be stored in the fridge.

Wendysfriend · 16/01/2024 18:02

That looks like a lovely fridge full of food I enjoy. I spotted the desserts first 😍😍

Yes, cooked should be stored over raw.

I buy the big cardboard milk, they don't leak once the spout is upright. Got fed up throwing out sour milk stored on the door.

No point showing you mine, just imagine an empty fridge with racks 😂

Do NOT lie your milk down on the shelf unless you want it pissing out everywhere! Shock

If your milk goes sour in the door, you need to turn your fridge up.

This has literally never happened to me and I use my milk a day or two past its date.

ssd · 16/01/2024 18:04

I cant enlarge pictures on my phone so i cant see whats in the fridges..

VeganNugsNotDrugs · 16/01/2024 18:06

I would loooove a new fridge, it's next on my "would like to upgrade but neither required nor essential" list.

Every day fridge. It's small, we bought it because in our old house 11 years ago it was the only one that would fit in the space we had for a fridge.

It's getting close to shopping delivery day (Friday, usually fortnightly) so is a bit sparse, and it needs a clean but I don't think there's any impending health hazards!

Top shelf - yoghurts, cheeses, tofu
Middle shelf - butter, ham, soya yog, mayo
Bottom shelf - a slightly past it's best romaine lettuce, half a bag of carrots, last nights left overs which didn't make it to the freezer yet.
Veg drawer - various salad items - more lettuce, tomatoes, peppers cucumber, onions and potatoes (controversial) and some slightly limp celery.
Door - top (held together with tape) - vegan parmesan, half a tin of mandarins, assorted eye drops
Middle - now on the bottom after the bottom shelf died a death
Bottom - oat milk, cow juice, smoothie, big tub of houmous

We have another under counter fridge which just has drinks and condiments.

To ask you to show me your fridge?

Milk and wine in door and I’ve never had a problem with either!!

uncooked meat bottom shelf, then cooked and cheese then fruit at the top
