Please!

I'm somewhat fascinated by people's fridges. Whenever I watched MTV cribs when younger I only cared about what was inside the fridges.

Anyone else like me?

I'll start with mine. (Yes I know it's not very well organised but I did a food shop today and had to rush and put it away before doing the school run)

Bottom drawers: fruit and veg
Bottom shelf: fruit and veg that doesn't fit in drawers
Next shelf: yogurts, dairy and desserts.
Next shelf: meat, fish and poultry with fresh pasta as I couldn't fit it anywhere else
Next shelf: miscellaneous stuff

I know it's not very organised. :)

@flexigirl I think I have a much more vintage edition of that book, haha.

I also don't like the idea of storing raw meat directly above salad, but then I guess being in a drawer maybe protects them a bit. My fridge has a raw meat drawer under the salad drawer which I think makes the most sense.

@Vergingontheridiculous is your username inspired by your fridge doors 😅 or is it just a coincidence?

I have a shitty integrated fridge, I'm lucky if I can fit a raisin on the shelf (pun intended) along with everything else.
We used to have an American style fridge freezer in our old house...that is where the party's at! at! I miss it so much.
It was the Mary poppins bag of all fridges, and yet there was still room for more.

I hated the integrated fridge freezer we had when we moved in, they just aren't fit for a family.
We ended up adding an extra cabinet on the end of our existing ones and buying a full size fridge and full size freezer instead.

Ooh I love to have a good spy in a fridge- it's a bit like reading other people's shopping lists. Here's mine - a bit empty as I need to do a shop.

I don't know how some of you cope with so much stackable food available.

I eat everything instantly.

Sam87uuk · 16/01/2024 20:03

Snackable*

Vergingontheridiculous · 16/01/2024 20:04

@Mazuslongtoenail 🤣 it is not! My initial post was going to be about my neighbour's obsession with the grass verges but then that got somewhat resolved.

My main concern from this thread is where everyone is keeping all of their mustards. I have at least 4. Probably more. We love a condiment.

Shortbread49 · 16/01/2024 20:09

About Worcester sauce I always thought soy sauce was ok then I read the label and it says to refrigerate after opening and it does go
off mine did

Oblomov23 · 16/01/2024 20:09

You are 3 weeks too late,OP. Mn always has a Christmas fridge thread that is the best thread ever!

Celticliving · 16/01/2024 20:10

Thank you! I'm regretting joining the thread now though cos I'm starving 🤣

AAT65 · 16/01/2024 20:14

Potatoes, apples and limes do not need to be in fridge (potatoes cool dark place). Eggs don't need to be in fridge especially if fridge over full as yours looks. Uncooked meat on bottom and certainly not above cooked meat. (Cooked meat will be sealed but seal on uncooked meat not failsafe and may contaminate packaging below.

flexigirl · 16/01/2024 20:16

@Vergingontheridiculous I absolutely love that book ! Found out my cousin in New Zealand is still using his copy too . I always go back to this book despite having zillions of other cookbooks that I needn't have bought Blush

Sam87uuk · 16/01/2024 20:17

There's no such thing as left over pizza around my place. 🍕

It always gets finished even if I'm full. Pizza is too nice.

Paw2024 · 16/01/2024 20:19

Another messy one here

notprincehamlet · 16/01/2024 20:20

vegan parmesan, half a tin of mandarins, assorted eye drops
That would make for a particularly challenging episode of Ready Steady Cook

Sam87uuk · 16/01/2024 20:24

I'd have that pizza in the oven straight away else it'd be on my mind all evening 🍕

Vergingontheridiculous · 16/01/2024 20:24

@notprincehamlet 🤣

Thedogscollar · 16/01/2024 20:28

It needs a bloody good clean out on list for tomoro.

WagWoofWalkMeeoow · 16/01/2024 20:30

baldpenguine · 16/01/2024 18:00

Oh Jesus.

So meat on bottom shelf
Milk on a shelf (somehow, I have no room)
And eggs out the fridge.

Keep them coming, I just bung everything in and hope for the best!

@baldpenguine milk is fine in the door if you fridge is set correctly and you're not in & out constantly. My milk never goes off & I don't use a lot, so it has plenty of time to think about it!

but yes, meat at the bottom, you don't want it dripping in other food.

I love pizza. Separate pizza stomach

There was a thread on here about someone being woken up at 3am for pizza and I was "I don't see the problem? Wake me at 3am either for pizza or a lottery win" Grin

CastIronKiller · 16/01/2024 20:33

Get those bloody spuds out the fridge!

Gitfeatures · 16/01/2024 20:33

Does the Xmas thread contain quite as many posts telling people that they're doing refridgeration wrong?

I simply cannot agree about the potatoes! I used to keep mine in the fridge and they were good for ages. Now we've moved, the fridge is too small and the potatoes don't last at all. We put them in the garage in the dark and yet they go green in a matter of moments. It's highly annoying.
