To ask you to show me your fridge?

Please!

I'm somewhat fascinated by people's fridges. Whenever I watched MTV cribs when younger I only cared about what was inside the fridges.

Anyone else like me?

I'll start with mine. (Yes I know it's not very well organised but I did a food shop today and had to rush and put it away before doing the school run)

Bottom drawers: fruit and veg
Bottom shelf: fruit and veg that doesn't fit in drawers
Next shelf: yogurts, dairy and desserts.
Next shelf: meat, fish and poultry with fresh pasta as I couldn't fit it anywhere else
Next shelf: miscellaneous stuff

I know it's not very organised. :)

We bought a 'French doors' fridge last year, and I love it. For the first time ever my fridge is today and has remained tidy.

Also for the first time, I am breaking the rules and keeping raw meat in the middle of the fridge. It's in the grey box - which is solid, so nothing can drip, and gets washed every week or two.

The jars really need filtering, though.

You probably don’t need to keep the lime pickle in the fridge - I just checked our jar and doesn’t say refrigerate

Vergingontheridiculous · 16/01/2024 19:06

I'm pretty sure there's a lime pickle somewhere at the back of mine, and yet I agree with you

TheBirdintheCave · 16/01/2024 19:08

Needs a clean as we spilt beetroot juice everywhere and the damn hoisin bottle is too tall for the shelf 😂

Not a single item is organised 😂

Oh and the tub that says 'Meat' is all cooked meat only. Raw stuff goes on the bottom shelf.

Vergingontheridiculous · 16/01/2024 19:20

Do people keep Worcester sauce in the fridge? Ours has been open and unrefrigerated for several years at this point and I'm still using it (obviously not very regularly)

kimbear87 · 16/01/2024 19:24

Despite everybody's differences, our fridges all look identical! Grin

The foil covered bowl is chick pea curry. Big pink thing in the door is salt dough. Beans in the cup. Big shop is next week.

Mine is basically all leftovers by midweek. Will be replenished on Friday.
Love my fridge as there's always room for more in there.

I thought our fridge was empty but it's not too bad

I still have a 'Christmas storage' container ie a Pepsi bottle with the top cut off that allows two pots of cream or a stack of cheese to be stored using up the vertical space in the door.....dead proud of that

Meat should always be at the bottom, cross contamination. The door is the warmest part of the fridge, milk is meant to be stored in the main body, I know drippage.

You can't put milk anywhere else once it's opened.

Livedandlearned · 16/01/2024 19:35

What's in the green jar in the door?

familyissues12345 · 16/01/2024 19:39

I posted mine the other day as it annoys me, always freeze the food in the bottom drawer and DH's theory is that if there is stuff in the middle of each shelf then the drawer occupants freeze - to do with the vents at the back having something in front of them. Not sure I really buy it, as the carrots in the bottom drawer of the picture froze even with the limited stuff in Confused

Anyway, what a boring paragraph I've just written. I'm really just here for the fridge pics

JustRingJoeDuffy · 16/01/2024 19:39

Meat should go on the bottom shelf if you bought it from a butcher/service counter in a supermarket and its not in a sealed packet. If you bought it from the self-sevice section and its sealed, you can store it where it fits best! If your sealed pack is dripping, you should probably check if you can use that meat!

I store eggs in the fridge because thats where I have the most space in my tiny kitchen 😅

hellhavenofury35 · 16/01/2024 19:42

Wow, I feel the need to come and organise your fridge...please don't take ovence!

You can't put milk anywhere else once it's opened.

Depends on the distance between shelves.

Mind you here milk is only sold in 1l cartons.

(And they go in the door once opened ofc!)

Minniem2020 · 16/01/2024 19:49

That's a lot of food!! We have one of those useless, tiny, under counter fridges and it's still bare😂

Mines a shit show at the moment but am posting this picture that I follow from a vintage book called the dairy book of home cookery . It's an ace book with lots of traditional British recipes and brilliant advice
