To ask you to show me your fridge?

Please!

I'm somewhat fascinated by people's fridges. Whenever I watched MTV cribs when younger I only cared about what was inside the fridges.

Anyone else like me?

I'll start with mine. (Yes I know it's not very well organised but I did a food shop today and had to rush and put it away before doing the school run)

Bottom drawers: fruit and veg
Bottom shelf: fruit and veg that doesn't fit in drawers
Next shelf: yogurts, dairy and desserts.
Next shelf: meat, fish and poultry with fresh pasta as I couldn't fit it anywhere else
Next shelf: miscellaneous stuff

I know it's not very organised. :)

I thought our fridge was empty but it's not too bad

I still have a 'Christmas storage' container ie a Pepsi bottle with the top cut off that allows two pots of cream or a stack of cheese to be stored using up the vertical space in the door.....dead proud of that

That's a brilliant idea!

Not a single item is organised 😂

100% Scottish household.

Does the Xmas thread contain quite as many posts telling people that they're doing refridgeration wrong?

No, the Christmas fridge thread attracts all the loons that tell everyone to 'Read the room' and don't we know that there's a COL crisis and how ashamed we should all be showing our extravagant fridges 🙄

We bought a 'French doors' fridge last year, and I love it. For the first time ever my fridge is today and has remained tidy.

Also for the first time, I am breaking the rules and keeping raw meat in the middle of the fridge. It's in the grey box - which is solid, so nothing can drip, and gets washed every week or two.

The jars really need filtering, though.

Those trays for organising jars and things are genius! My jars are all over the place! Will try to find some 👍

Mine is basically all leftovers by midweek. Will be replenished on Friday.
Love my fridge as there's always room for more in there.

I absolutely LOVE the bottom jar drawer

What a simple, but very clever idea! Thank you.
And yes, lemons and limes need to be kept in the fridge. How else will you chill your G&T?

I posted mine the other day as it annoys me, always freeze the food in the bottom drawer and DH's theory is that if there is stuff in the middle of each shelf then the drawer occupants freeze - to do with the vents at the back having something in front of them. Not sure I really buy it, as the carrots in the bottom drawer of the picture froze even with the limited stuff in Confused

Anyway, what a boring paragraph I've just written. I'm really just here for the fridge pics

I think your DH is bonkers and you are wasting space that could be vacant for precious cheese.

Wow, I feel the need to come and organise your fridge...please don't take ovence!

Haha none taken! I know it's a nightmare.

If you want to write what you'd do to my fridge I'm happy to oblige and do it myself and I'll upload a picture after it's done!

@Oldieandgoldie , keep the gin in the freezer and the tonic in the fridge.

vegan parmesan, half a tin of mandarins, assorted eye drops
That would make for a particularly challenging episode of Ready Steady Cook

This cracked me up 😂😂😂

That's a lot of food!! We have one of those useless, tiny, under counter fridges and it's still bare😂

@Minniem2020 i did too until Covid hit. I was already properly fed up with the lack of space & not being able to see anything! But I was concerned about the possible lack of fresh food and I have diabetes & low carb, so pretty much eat like a rabbit!! With a side of dairy!

so I ordered a fridge/freezer (no freezer previously)

mini fridge didn't want to leave home, so he's on drinks & left overs duty (he's a great size for the pans & big glass dishes. I have no idea how I 'made do' with him
alone for years.

Oh no! Meat goes at the bottom? I've been storing my meat wrong for the best part of 10 years.. oops.

I shall move it. (When I can be arsed)

Raw meat goes at the bottom... In case its fluid /blood drips and doesn't soak into everything in your fridge.
Raw meat should not be kept next to cooked meat to prevent contamination /bacteria.

baldpenguine · 16/01/2024 21:21

Right I'm tackling a rejig tomorrow. Will take our spuds and eggs and out meat on bottom.

I know someone mentioned taking apples out, I love my apples crispy and cold!

TheCurtainQueen · 16/01/2024 21:22

You need a bigger fridge OP! Or at least an extra shelf at the bottom.

Lovelylydia · 16/01/2024 21:28

Has everyone taken the wine bottles out for the pictures? I’m on Dry January + (Jan & Lent) but still have a couples of white wine in the fridge 😃

FetchezLaVache · 16/01/2024 21:28

Food fridge and drinks fridge! I have obtained special permission to keep fruit in the drawer of the latter.

Slice lemons and limes and freeze them in a container between layers of greaseproof paper. Perfect for G&Ts!

This is the drinks fridge. DH is in charge of this one. He's not a fan of alcohol, but loves fizzy drinks

Mountainclimber2024 · 16/01/2024 21:37

I’m sorry to say some of these packed fridges would give me nightmares!

Mine is bare compared to yours.

I have a Lidl and Aldi 10 minutes walk away so I never need to cram it with stuff.

I am in bed and I am due to go shopping this week so I’ll post a before and after picture.

JetBlackSteed · 16/01/2024 21:49

It's not very organised
