To say that the variety of crisps has gone downhill?

Why oh why won't they bring back ready salted chipsticks? Or even the supermarkets knock of version!? Why can't you buy single (or mutli) packets of walkers ready salted squares? I know my taste in crisps is boring, as I mainly long for discontinued ready salted flavours. Although I do miss branningtons(?) beef and mustard...Anyone remember ready salted kangaroo shaped crisps from the 90s? And those little ready salted triangles and or the ready salted tubes (same texture as walkers squares) both from sainsburys. Also, I have fond memories ot these maize based bacon flavour chipsticks (no idea what they were called) Anyone else remember these ?

Brannigan's is the brand you are pining for. Me too, but in my case the roast lamb and mint flavour.

DipsAndSplits · 07/01/2024 02:04

I think the maize based bacon things are called Frazzles?.

curtaintwitcher78 · 07/01/2024 02:06

I miss Walkers lamb and mint Sensations. Like a roast dinner in a bag.

Raxacoricofallapatorian · 07/01/2024 03:15

I used to absolutely adore these. Texture a bit like Chipsticks but crispier, made of proper potato instead of tooth-gluing maize, but airy and light unlike the "potato sticks" you can still get, chunky and real-tasting unlike Walkers French Fries, lovely big salt crystals, utterly delicious, AND gluten free. Then they discontinued them. I have no idea why. I miss them. More than is reasonable.

I do sometimes see salt and vinegar squares in shops but it's usually only cheese and onion squares when I see squares in shops.

Where have marmite walkers crisps gone? Used to see single and multi packs of them all the time but I never see them anymore.

I usually now settle for blue Doritos or roast beef monster munch now.

I got excited when I saw this photo and starting googling to death, only to later properly read your response to say they have been discontinued!! Annoyingly I remember seeing these in store a couple of years ago, but some some reason I thought they were just like the standard supermarkets own small potato type sticks (which never hit the spot) so I never tried them. Am kicking myself now! It's so annoying when loved products get discontinued

I always see marmite crisps in my sainsburys (bigger superstore version) although come to think of it, haven't seen them in any other supermarket for a while!

I do love a frazzle but they weren't these. They were quite similar in taste (although slightly sweeter, less strong and a different shape)

It's crap. I used to walk down the crisp aisle in Sainsburys or M&S and drool.

Now I'm just huffing and puffing about why I can never get pickled onion crisps or Worcester Sauce. (Pickled Onion Monster Munch don't cut it, nor do Worcester Sauce Seabrook which B&M have in sometimes)

custardlover · 15/01/2024 23:00

Worcester Sauce crisps are the best in the world and the idea they are over fills me with a cold, bleak wind of despair.

NashvilleQueen · 15/01/2024 23:00

Places like Home Bargains often have retro crisps (for some reason). I love a bag of Golden Wonder from there. Also Space Raiders.

I can absolutely understand your frustration! (although with a different flavour of crisp) why try to fix what isn't broken!

For the bacon ones do you mean Crunchy Fries? LOVED those.

I do always have better luck in places like home bargains and b&m, aswell as newsagents, there also tends to be a wider variety and unseen and imported flavours! Its definitely the supermarkets that are doing us a disservice!

I had a love hate relationship with the potato sticks, they were yummy but made my mouth all tingly.

So many crisps are going, I only like ready salted but DH is more adventurous. He likes Walkers Tomato Ketchup which I rarely see anywhere else but Ocado, he currently has Walkers Christmas pudding flavour, they were 29p in Farm foods, I think that was for a reason. He also likes Seabrook's lea and Perrin (?)

You do need your Farmfoods and B&M's though for your more unusual flavours.

NomDePrune · 15/01/2024 23:23

I'm waiting for Lidl to bring back Ham & Mustard crisps. They seem to rotate flavours but these were the best - haven't seen them for a couple of years though.

Bluedabidee · 15/01/2024 23:25

Brannigan's Roast Beef and Mustard were soooo good! I also miss Burtons Potato Puffs, the cheese and onion ones!

DrCoconut · 15/01/2024 23:27

I miss paprika crisps since going gluten free 😫 Anyone know of any that are safe?

DrCoconut · 15/01/2024 23:28

I really hope aldi have their Christmas crisps again next year. I think it was camembert and honey flavour that was amazing
