To say that the variety of crisps has gone downhill?

Why oh why won't they bring back ready salted chipsticks? Or even the supermarkets knock of version!? Why can't you buy single (or mutli) packets of walkers ready salted squares? I know my taste in crisps is boring, as I mainly long for discontinued ready salted flavours. Although I do miss branningtons(?) beef and mustard...Anyone remember ready salted kangaroo shaped crisps from the 90s? And those little ready salted triangles and or the ready salted tubes (same texture as walkers squares) both from sainsburys. Also, I have fond memories ot these maize based bacon flavour chipsticks (no idea what they were called) Anyone else remember these ?

@mrsfindlay
They went on sale in 2002 and discontinued in 2005
The packet looks browner than in this photo .

Kettle chips had a flavour called angry fruit years ago. Think they were mango and chili. So delicious! I think about those crisps a lot!

Can't beat Walkers Ready Salted and Cheese and Onion.
Walkers tried lots of new flavours, but stuck with the most.popular ones.

BassoContinuo · 16/01/2024 00:16

I still miss pickled onion Discos and Tangy Twiglats

EverleighMay · 16/01/2024 00:20

Wish Walkers Tomato Ketchup would make a return.

DahliaMacNamara · 16/01/2024 00:20

@custardlover M&S still do big bags of Worcester Sauce crisps. They're pretty good, and don't have the gingery tang you get from the Seabrooks Lea and Perrins, which I really don't like.

Small independent convenience stores often have a much better range, not only of crisps but also chocolate bars and drinks. The main supermarkets have a very small range as they’re only interested in a few best sellers.

Tighginn · 16/01/2024 07:25

My discovery of truffle crisps this year is restoring my faith!

It's crap. I used to walk down the crisp aisle in Sainsburys or M&S and drool.

Now I'm just huffing and puffing about why I can never get pickled onion crisps or Worcester Sauce. (Pickled Onion Monster Munch don't cut it, nor do Worcester Sauce Seabrook which B&M have in sometimes)

Walkers still do pickled onion crisps. My local Spar do the 6 pack sometimes.
My gripe is they have become so expensive. A single small bag is now a pound. The aforementioned 6 pack used to cost a pound on special offer but now is over 2 pound

Ooh. Thanks for this. I don't often go into my local Spar, but the few times I have, they always have the pickled onion walkers. Like you, I was shocked at them being about a quid for a single bag. Now I think about it though, they had six packs a few times so I'll have a look today to see if they have any.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/01/2024 09:18

What l miss about crops is you used to get a bag full of them.

Now you get about 10 in a bag.😔

beguilingeyes · 16/01/2024 09:42

They cost an arm and a leg but Torres Fried Egg Crisps are amazing. They really taste like fried eggs. Their black truffle crisps are epic, also.
You can still get marmite crisps, Poundland usually have them but I've bought them in Sainsbury's this week.

Augustus40 · 16/01/2024 10:18

Yes I go to Poundland to buy the spring onion Walkers crisps. Or is it pickled cannot remember.

There was a time marmite was readily available as well as the tomato ones. Walkers used to do a great range.

Augustus40 · 16/01/2024 10:19

The Walkers cost 2 pounds for six in Poundland!

AtomicBlondeRose · 16/01/2024 10:22

I try to avoid UPF but I’d straight up cut a bitch for a packet of Cheese Moments.

ghostyslovesheets · 16/01/2024 10:51

Get yourself to your local corner shop! DD1 works in our Spar - they have all sorts of crisps! Chipsticks- proper salty thick potato ones - lots of square crisps and discos and spicy rings!

I was pure RAGIN' when M&S sacked off their prawn cocktail skips knock offs 2 years ago. What the hell were they thinking??

WolfFoxHare · 16/01/2024 17:35

I miss ready salted square multipacks too. You used to be able to buy big bags of them in Marks and Spencer but they’ve stopped doing them. Our local Home Bargains does 6 packs of the cheese and onion squares and the salt and vinegar squares but not the ready salted. 😡 You can’t even buy the boxes from Amazon like you can with some hard to find crisps. I wonder if you can get them at big cash and carries?

I thought I hadn’t seen them for ages but my local M&S is tiny.

Can’t believe they’ve stopped making them!

ManchesterBea · 16/01/2024 17:36

Brannigans ham and pickle 🥰😞

Also worchester sauce walkers 😭

SchoolQuestionnaire · 16/01/2024 17:37

I really miss M&S prawn cocktail shells. Far superior to Skips.

WolfFoxHare · 16/01/2024 17:38

Don’t even get me started on how all supermarkets gradually stopped selling potato triangles. Utter utter bastards.

Going back many many years now, Co-op used to sell these cheese and ham nibble things that were like mini cheddars but with (fake) bacon bits in. I miss a lot of supermarket own brand snacks actually.
