Are all men mean when they’ve had a few too many drinks?

My Husband is a great man, kind, caring and sensible. But when he’s had too many drinks he just turns. He’s mean, arrogant, obnoxious and to be honest I don’t really like him when he’s been drinking. He doesn’t drink often - every few months, but when he’s passed a point, I just have no use to try and talk to him, reason, or try and have a nice evening.

Are they all like this?? My approach is just to realise when he’s starting to be a dick and then just write off the evening and do my own thing. By the morning he’s back to being nice. Any advice? Anyone else find this?

No, not all men are like this.

idontlikealdi · 29/12/2023 22:31

No.

SomeCatFromJapan · 29/12/2023 22:32

No, definitely not.

SgtJuneAckland · 29/12/2023 22:32

No if anything DH is silly/playful and affectionate when he's been drinking

ChristmasCanFucawfee · 29/12/2023 22:32

No.

Cheeesus · 29/12/2023 22:32

No. Mine is chatty and happy. He’s been a grumpy arse today with a hangover though.

LunaLovegoodsLeftEyebrow · 29/12/2023 22:32

No. Mine goes soppy when he has had a couple.

Themostimportantpartis · 29/12/2023 22:33

No, mine is an adorable drunk, it happens rarely but he just tells me how much he loves, on repeat. He’s very kind when he’s sober so he just gets nicer.

way2serious · 29/12/2023 22:33

Just be grateful he doesn’t drink that often. Mine is like this daily and I regularly write off evenings

Crucible · 29/12/2023 22:34

No. DH is the silliest plonker when he has had a few. He could talk the ears off a donkey too.

JKDcot · 29/12/2023 22:34

I thought it would be a lot more yes than that….!

he’s not a nice drunk at all. Not loving or cuddly or funny. Just obnoxious, arrogant and rude. I am lucky he’s not like this often as I definitely wouldn’t enjoy it

No, DH is a bit chatty and then sleepy

AnyFucker · 29/12/2023 22:36

Absolutely not, and you don’t have to tolerate it

Mammillaria · 29/12/2023 22:36

No, DH is giggly and silly then very soppy and loving.

Are there no other red flags at all when he's sober?

felissamy · 29/12/2023 22:37

Mine is horrible, vicious, angry, boring. Unfirtunately dies it rather often.

MistyBean · 29/12/2023 22:37

No

Deathbyathousandcats · 29/12/2023 22:38

Alcohol just brings out his underlying personality.

Mumoftwo1312 · 29/12/2023 22:38

No, my dh just goes a bit giggly and can't say proper sentences but the sentences he tries to say would still be nice ones.

He's not much of a talker anyway so sometimes the only sign is he can't walk in a straight line and grins more than usual.

I really hate men who shout or thump tables etc after a drink. Reminds me of my awful dad.

Porageeater · 29/12/2023 22:38

No just some people shouldn’t drink, some women included.

BarrelOfOtters · 29/12/2023 22:38

My husband is a cuddly sleepy drunk….he tells me he loves me to an irritating state. But he’s no harm.

I’m either sleepy or argumentative….im not very nice.

Renamed · 29/12/2023 22:38

No, not at all. I have known some people who are fine unless it is one particular drink, usually lager or whiskey

Kimmeridge · 29/12/2023 22:39

No he goes soppy, sings to me & is actually quite entertaining

Minglingpringle · 29/12/2023 22:39

No.

Crazycatlady79 · 29/12/2023 22:39

In my experience, no.

I, however, do become unpleasant after a few too many, so made the very wise decision to stop drinking alcohol a few years back.

Tilllly · 29/12/2023 22:40

@JKDcot mine can be

Not always, mostly he's just a bit gormless

But once in a while, he's just nasty

He doesn't get drunk very often tho. But the last nasty bout was quite recently and I told him straight, both at the time and in the morning

So we'll see

I dislike it. If I get drunk, I'm just astonishingly witty, realise I'm an excellent singer after all, and feel the need to remind my friends they're fabulous 😁
Anyone who gets nasty or maudlin, shouldn't drink
