To think that pigs n blankets are too much?

I mean I love pigs and I also adore blankets but together, it feels too much. I like to keep the two totally separate.

It’s almost like combining a good cheddar with a strong French cheese.

I imagine this will be a very controversial opinion! For what it's worth, I absolutely agree. I feel like they're always less than the sum of their parts.

Heathenn

WhatsInStoreFor2024 · 21/12/2023 16:53

Don't like the things either in or out of a 'blanket'!!

LenaLamont · 21/12/2023 16:53

They are the sole reason DD like Christmas dinner

VickyEadieofThigh · 21/12/2023 16:53

We never have them with Xmas Dinner. Pointless addition to our Greek roast lamb.

LoobyDop · 21/12/2023 16:53

M&S have a pigs in blankets sandwich that is just too much for me. I’m not shy of pork products or mayonnaise, but there are limits.

Knitgoodwoman · 21/12/2023 16:53

Of course YABU.

merrymerrychristmasall · 21/12/2023 16:53

I only like them if they aren’t pre-prepared.

Buy the pigs and blankets separately, assemble at home. Why not make more work for oneself, it’s delightful.

TheDandyLion · 21/12/2023 16:54

Pigs in blankets instead of bangers with mash is worth it tho.

Greek roast lamb sounds amazing!

I've just had some at a cocktail reception at the Grand in Brighton and they were coupled with a slice of green apple. It was a stunning combination.

MagicalAnimal · 21/12/2023 16:54

They are the best bit of a Christmas dinner. No matter how many are made they will always get eaten. YABVU.

Jessforless · 21/12/2023 16:54

I hate sausages so I just have little bacon rolls, all the family are converted so we obviously agree OP.

gotomomo · 21/12/2023 16:56

Totally agree, makes the sausages too salty

Fulshaw · 21/12/2023 16:57

I don’t love them but I think they go well with turkey, they add flavour and moisture.

I don’t think I’d eat them on their own.

Greek roast lamb sounds amazing!

We just cook it long and slow with garlic, rosemary and lemon. My partner is Greek so this is our festive meal.

mrsbyers · 21/12/2023 16:58

Usually made with smoked bacon so not a fan

stepintochristmas1 · 21/12/2023 16:59

I just cook them , usually about twenty four for four people and they just snack on them the rest of the day . What I did read here last year is some forgot to put them on the table 😲 . I would never get away with that !

User5690 · 21/12/2023 16:59

Why stop at pigs in the blankets though - what about cauliflower cheese, trifle etc

meeplesmarples · 21/12/2023 17:02

What?! This is my favourite Christmas sandwich 😂

ManateeFair · 21/12/2023 17:05

Each to their own, but for me, pigs-in-blankets are massively overrated. When I was a kid my dad used to cook a dish of sausage meat along with the stuffing and we had slices of that, rather than pigs-in-blankets, and I think that was miles nicer. DP is obsessed with pigs-in-blankets though so I always do them for him.

RestlessEyesEgosBurn · 21/12/2023 17:05

So much of your typical Christmas Dinner - bread sauce, cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets, carrot and swede mash, red cabbage - is stuff designed to provide the moisture and taste traditionally lacking in the turkey.

Just don't have turkey. Job done.

sprigatito · 21/12/2023 17:06

I'm cooking 52 of them...ds2 will basically live on them until New Year 😂

MassageForLife · 21/12/2023 17:07

I love sausages. I love bacon.

I don't love the flabby sausage that doesn't crisp up under the bacon.

I'm totally with you, op!

Oopsadaisysgranny · 21/12/2023 17:15

Yadnbu yuck the sausage bit always look so pale yuck
