To think that pigs n blankets are too much?

I mean I love pigs and I also adore blankets but together, it feels too much. I like to keep the two totally separate.

It’s almost like combining a good cheddar with a strong French cheese.

Those mentioning bacon wrapped stuffing - do you cook the stuffing then wrap and cook again or cook all together?

Pebbles16 · 22/12/2023 20:51

We have pigs and we have blankets, but ne'er the twain shall meet.
We begrudgingly have cranberry sauce for the heathens that think fruit and meat are a good combo.
Bread sauce is divine with as much nutmeg as won't set off the Met (https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/nutmeg-high).
Cheesy sauces are a bit much for the main meal. We have to save ourselves for the BIG CHEESE BOARD (post dinner, pre pudding)

Can nutmeg cause a high?

Nutmeg is a popular spice, but consuming it in larger amounts can give a person a “high” similar to that of some hallucinogenic drugs. This high is called nutmeg intoxication.

You don't have to have them on your plate, just tell them to leave them off.

Yabu. I would happily eat a huge bowl of pigs in blankets over turkey 😂

OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet · 22/12/2023 21:33

Don't like pigs in blankets. But love halloumi in a smoke free blanket 👌

flibbertigiblets · 22/12/2023 21:35

YABU - they belong with a Christmas dinner. And Pigs in Blanket Toad in the Hole on Boxing Day if any leftovers!

Snowflakeslayer · 22/12/2023 21:38

It’s tradition, as separately they are traditional, for English breakfast. It’s a thing, maybe not for you, but it’s easy to understand, for English people.

RedRobyn2021 · 22/12/2023 21:38

I don't like them either!

People are so passionate about them though

OhcantthInkofaname · 22/12/2023 21:46

Thank you to those who answered my question. I spent the summer of '07 in the UK, 8 full weeks, and didn't happen to learn that particular food item.

Totally agree, makes the sausages too salty

This!

Angrywife · 22/12/2023 22:04

Agreed!

SuperSue77 · 22/12/2023 23:27

I completely agree!! Never liked them - don’t see the point of them. I love a bit of bacon in my stuffing or on my turkey - and some sausage meat stuffing is delicious, but bacon wrapped around sausages - yuck!
Bacon wrapped around prunes (devils on horseback) are amazing!

They are the sole reason DD like Christmas dinner

Mum?

I LOVE pigs in blankets. One year as a teenager my mum forgot them. Xmas ruined. We still talk about it 30 years on and from that day onwards I have taken responsibility for supplying them as I can't have that happen again.

Mamanyt · 22/12/2023 23:52

LOL, y'all, I'm from the USA, and had to get Bing to tell me what you consider pigs in a blanket, not understanding why they would be served at Christmas! Yes, I've had them. Yes, I love them, but then...as far as I am concerned, there is nothing so bad, or so GOOD, that bacon won't make it better. Although, the "pigs" I was served had been lightly browned before being tucking into their "blankies."

Fionaville · 23/12/2023 00:02

YABU They are one of the best parts of Christmas dinner! I also have a nice cheddar and a strong French cheese on my Christmas cheeseboard!

M&S have a pigs in blankets sandwich that is just too much for me. I’m not shy of pork products or mayonnaise, but there are limits.

So interestingly (or not) I'm not that keen on pigs in blankets - but the M&S pigs in blanket sandwich is one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten!

Pig in blanket + glacé cherry + bbq = heaven in your mouth

Sorry, what? Sausage wrapped in bacon with a glacé cherry on a barbecue? Or with barbecue sauce? Either way, that's weirder even than any pregnancy craving I've ever heard.

It sounds crazy. But my class came back from forest school with one they'd cooked on the campfire and it was quite possibly the most unexpected delight I've ever tasted.

It was a slice of streaky bacon wrapped around a chipolata with a glacé cherry on a cocktail stick cooked on the campfire (I assumed bbq would do)

Ah! The lack of involvement of barbecue sauce (hideous stuff) and an actual fire makes it sound most intriguing, now. I need to ask DD if she's going to be doing this at forest school.

Fluffmum · 23/12/2023 00:50

Never had them years ago. I don’t get the obsession with them

CandyLeBonBon · 23/12/2023 00:51

I remember having them at school in the 80s. We deffo had them growing up. They're not new!

justanothermanicmonday1 · 23/12/2023 02:52

They're absolutely not enough .... I like to make the big ones 🤣

I love sausages. I love bacon.

I don't love the flabby sausage that doesn't crisp up under the bacon.

I'm totally with you, op!

With you on this. I like sausages with a dark crisp skin😊

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 23/12/2023 09:40

the bacon corrects the blandness of the Standard British Grief Sausage
