To think that pigs n blankets are too much?

I mean I love pigs and I also adore blankets but together, it feels too much. I like to keep the two totally separate.

It’s almost like combining a good cheddar with a strong French cheese.

I agree. The bacon burns by the time the sausage is cooked.

Cocktail sausages are far better

idontlikealdi · 21/12/2023 18:13

I love sausages, I love streaky bacon. I love them on a plate separately but bacon round the sausage is just off on texture and taste.

Vitriolinsanity · 21/12/2023 18:13

Airfry the little fuckers. They're sublime.

Corkscrewcurls · 21/12/2023 18:14

Ummmm, am I the only one that browns the sausages in a frying pan first before wrapping bacon round them and finishing in the oven. No anaemic sausages here.

PickAChew · 21/12/2023 18:14

Our favourite chippy does them battered and deep fried. 😋

Beezknees · 21/12/2023 18:24

I'm not keen on pork so I don't have them. DS would eat a whole plateful!

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 21/12/2023 18:24

We couldn’t be friends.

VanityDiesHard · 21/12/2023 18:25

Ha, I see that you are judged unreasonable but FWIW I totally agree with you. I like the skin on sausages to be really crisp, and it can't be if it is wrapped in something, even something as delicious as bacon. Devils, or even better angels, on horseback are far superior.

JustOneMoreBaileys · 21/12/2023 18:25

Damn it, OP.

Have you no SHAME?!?!

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 21/12/2023 18:26

I don’t like them either - I do cocktail sausages roasted with honey and mustard seeds, and don’t bother with bacon. To be honest I prefer them cold anyway!

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 21/12/2023 18:28

I just get chipolatas and streaky bacon and do my own. They go down very well. Glad I’ve not invited you to Christmas dinner, salad eaters not welcome.

VanityDiesHard · 21/12/2023 18:31

VickyEadieofThigh · 21/12/2023 16:58

We just cook it long and slow with garlic, rosemary and lemon. My partner is Greek so this is our festive meal.

That sounds delicious. May I ask what you have as pudding? Or are you too full?

TheKnittedCharacter · 21/12/2023 18:31

They are one of the best bits! But pre-made are revolting.

My husband makes them with best quality cocktail sausages and ultra thin bacon. Delicious.

I completely agree.

I’ve tried enjoying them but I just can’t.

Bacon and sausages should be separated.

MadCatLady27 · 21/12/2023 18:35

Preparing to be burnt at the stake but I'd rather just have those and roasties for Xmas dinner, they're the best bit 😂 turkey is meh

Went to the chip shop and they were doing them, they were amazing 😋

Usually we make our own from the butchers, but had forgotten about them this year (still thought it was ages away) it's just me and DH, he's not really a fan of them and wondered why we needed 2 x 12 pack. They're lovely warmed with cold turkey (meh) and crispy rolls

MadCatLady27 · 21/12/2023 18:39

Thesearmsofmine · 21/12/2023 17:34

I love a pig in blanket but prefer to make my own or get them from the butcher so the sausage is decent. I made a pig in blanket toad in the hole at the weekend and it was gorgeous!

Omg that sounds absolutely incredible. Unfortunately DH dislikes sausage so no toad in the hole here in any form

therealcookiemonster · 21/12/2023 18:41

why do you want pigs to be cold? it's winter, they need blankets.

disclaimer: as a Muslim, I don't eat pigs in blankets but halal versions of it. and strongly believe that everything is improved when wrapped in pastry. also believe in the right of pigs to be warm

2dogsandabudgie · 21/12/2023 18:42

Only at Christmas would we put food all on one plate that just doesn't go. I love cauliflower cheese and I love a roast dinner but who thought the two should be eaten together. Just no!

missmollygreen · 21/12/2023 18:42

Edinburghguy · 21/12/2023 16:54

Greek roast lamb sounds amazing!

Better than dry turkey?!
hmm now I think about it....

MassageForLife · 21/12/2023 17:07

I love sausages. I love bacon.

I don't love the flabby sausage that doesn't crisp up under the bacon.

I'm totally with you, op!

I like them, but agree that the pigs and the blankets are diminished by combining them. And now that the phrase 'flabby sausage' is in my head, I've gone off them a bit more.

Oganesson118 · 21/12/2023 18:45

I can see why people don't like them but they're a proper highlight of Christmas dinner for me

ForeverYellow · 21/12/2023 18:48

We have them with beans for breakfast.

Ohmylovejune · 21/12/2023 18:48

They were the main meat of our dinner a few years ago.

I unwrapped our "fresh" turkey on Christmas Eve. It stank and was green in places. The butchers were fab in refunding after Christmas but we had to improvise! A small frozen chicken was taken out the freezer - thank goodness we had that and the main meat platter was a pile of pigs in blankets, pork sausagement stuffing balls with 2 small chicken slices each.

We survived!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/12/2023 18:49

It's not something we've ever had.

Our favourite chippy does them battered and deep fried. 😋

Omg sounds like heaven.
