To think that pigs n blankets are too much?

I mean I love pigs and I also adore blankets but together, it feels too much. I like to keep the two totally separate.

It’s almost like combining a good cheddar with a strong French cheese.

You have to have the right sausages.

ginasevern · 21/12/2023 17:17

I agree OP but I'm not a great fan of sausages. I find the sausage & bacon combo is too salty and rich. I do like sausage meat in stuffing though.

Usually made with smoked bacon so not a fan

I think this is often the problem. The £2.50 ones sold by Sainsbury's atm are made with cheap smoked bacon and are extraordinarily salty. (I tried them out last week and couldn't eat them, so am assembling my own with unsmoked bacon)

PlimplePlop · 21/12/2023 17:22

I always think they taste of fish 🐟

Go to your room, and don’t come out until the 26th!

margotrose · 21/12/2023 17:25

Sacrilege! They're the best thing about Christmas dinner Grin

Purplecatshopaholic · 21/12/2023 17:26

Totally came on here to wax lyrical about pigs in blankets until Greek roast lamb was mentioned..

TinselAngel · 21/12/2023 17:26

The sausages end up undercooked and the bacon overcooked, therefore I'd rather have them in a sandwich for breakfast.

Dontcallmescarface · 21/12/2023 17:26

The most overrated food since the roast potato.

AngelicInnocent · 21/12/2023 17:28

Wash your mouth out. The roastie reigns supreme!

OrigamiOwl · 21/12/2023 17:30

This is a YABU so big it can be seen from space! 😂

Does have to be decent sausages tho.

YABVVVU!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/12/2023 17:32

I love pigs in blankets - they are especially good the next day, in bubble and squeak, with leftover roast chicken or turkey.

Metallicant · 21/12/2023 17:32

I find them too salty

Thesearmsofmine · 21/12/2023 17:34

I love a pig in blanket but prefer to make my own or get them from the butcher so the sausage is decent. I made a pig in blanket toad in the hole at the weekend and it was gorgeous!

Mongrelsrbeautiful · 21/12/2023 17:37

Never a week goes by when my son does not have pigs in blankets. I despise them - hate sausages generally, but bacon rolls is an exvellent idea!

FancyFanny · 21/12/2023 17:40

Pigs in blankets are vile! Pale sausages surrounded in fatty bacon! Why?

I refuse to have them on my Christmas dinner- instead I make lovely herby sausage meat stuffing balls and put the bacon in the sprouts.

The ones we have are deep golden brown surrounded by crispy bacon. Maybe you've only had them cooked by shit cooks.

😆

I love them, but they have to be very well cooked, bordering on incinerated. I hate pale, flaccid bacon and sausages.

catgirl1976 · 21/12/2023 17:44

I drizzle mine in honey and sprinkle with fennel seeds. I don’t like pre prepared ones those . I make my
own. They are amazing. I would cancel Christmas if they were not available

Have you tried cooking them properly?

banjocat · 21/12/2023 17:48

Everyone seems to love them but I agree, they're not my favourite thing. I eat them because they're there but I wouldn't miss them if they weren't.

Watchinghockey · 21/12/2023 17:50

Totally overrated.

CandyLeBonBon · 21/12/2023 17:50

Wash your mouth out op! 😂

Charlize43 · 21/12/2023 17:52

I served halloumi wrapped in aubergine blankets last year, which is a great alternative.

Also we've decided not to do turkey this year but Porchetta stuffed with fennel and apricots instead. Served with red cabbage and crispy oven roasted vegetables (potatoes, courgettes, parsnips, peppers) as well as spouts with bacon & chestnuts.

Still undecided about desert but thinking of amaretto infused pear tart...
