To think that pigs n blankets are too much?

I mean I love pigs and I also adore blankets but together, it feels too much. I like to keep the two totally separate.

It’s almost like combining a good cheddar with a strong French cheese.

OP posts:

When I was young - 1960s - my mother would roast cocktail sausages and bacon rolls separately

JenJenJenJenJenJen · 21/12/2023 17:53

I’m not from the UK so have never had these but don’t get the British obsession with adding sausages to a roast.

To me, it’d be like having sweet corn with roast beef.

Laiste · 21/12/2023 17:53

YANBU
I don't like them.

I like sausage, i like bacon, i don't like bacon wrapped round a sausage <shrug>

CloudPop · 21/12/2023 17:54

I love them. Mind you that Greek roast lamb sounds extremely appealing

AllTheChaos · 21/12/2023 17:54

VickyEadieofThigh · 21/12/2023 16:53

We never have them with Xmas Dinner. Pointless addition to our Greek roast lamb.

Ooooh, roast lamb is the only meat I miss! totally misses the point of the thread

Celebrationsnakes · 21/12/2023 17:55

Disgusting things

Terfosaurus · 21/12/2023 17:55

I love them. They are so good with Christmas Dinner. Or in toad in the hole. Or dunked into baked camembert.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 21/12/2023 17:55

I totally agree.

I don't really know when they became a 'thing' - we only had them with school Christmas dinners until at least the mid-90s, then all of a sudden they seemed to be everywhere!

We have sausage stuffing and slices of ham so pigs in blankets as well is just overkill. Plus bacon in particular is just too overpowering IMO.

VickyEadieofThigh · 21/12/2023 16:58

We just cook it long and slow with garlic, rosemary and lemon. My partner is Greek so this is our festive meal.

And you live where exactly? 😁

Laiste · 21/12/2023 17:56

They're always either salty and greasy, or salty and dry. Never quite right.

PieAndLattes · 21/12/2023 17:57

I agree. The sausage skin should be a bit crunchy. Putting a blanket on makes it flabby. I prefer them separate.

PonyPatter44 · 21/12/2023 17:58

MN is going downhill fast. First we had people eulogising bloody Brussels sprouts, and now we've got (probably the same) people slagging off pigs in blankets. Who ARE you people?

TempyBrennan · 21/12/2023 17:59

YABU to the highest degree.

they’re luxury little balls of pig and we have them weekly 😂

I think they caught on in the 1990s because Delia did them in one of her Christmas shows and for for the supermarkets it was an easy pre-made dish that they could charge extra for

As I pped - in the 1960s we got our cocktail sausages and rolled bacon separately ... and the turkey was stuffed at both ends - sage and onion in the big cavity and sausage mean in the small

crumblingschools · 21/12/2023 18:02

I would be quite happy to just have pigs in blankets for Christmas dinner!

OnlyCorrect · 21/12/2023 18:03

Totally with you OP, two amazing things that are better apart. And too many people think having pigs in blankets means no chipolatas required, which are theeeeeee best.

Seaweed42 · 21/12/2023 18:07

I've never thought of these as luxury food.

It's like something horrible you'd buy at the deli counter in the petrol station.

Not fancy. At all.

.....dunked into Camembert 😍😍

Disturbia81 · 21/12/2023 18:08

Finally someone who agrees! I love both separately but together they've never worked

CellarSeller · 21/12/2023 18:09

SnowRoomAtTheInn · 21/12/2023 17:44

😆

I love them, but they have to be very well cooked, bordering on incinerated. I hate pale, flaccid bacon and sausages.

Who knew there was another context in which the word flaccid could be used.

willWillSmithsmith · 21/12/2023 18:10

First time this year I’ve not bought them as we all think they’re too greasy. It doesn’t matter which brand I buy, M&S, Waitrose or Lidl they’re all pretty much the same.

Parentofeanda · 21/12/2023 18:11

See I don't like pigs in blankets...

PossumintheHouse · 21/12/2023 18:11

Very naughty opinion!

I think they’re great. As long as you don’t have too many of them and make yourself sick from all the salt.

OP, we do piggies and also apricots in bacon. I’d recommend you give them a try, delicious with turkey and ham.

Ginandjuice57884 · 21/12/2023 18:12

Chipolatas go on a roast for me. None of these never cooked properly pigs in blankets!

Stringagal · 21/12/2023 18:12

I love them, but would never ever buy them pre-made. Top quality butchers sausages with a slick of honey or maple syrup, then wrapped in prime streaky bacon. Ooof.
