To feel like this about ex's lottery win?

SpeedbirdSquawker · 19/11/2023 12:26

My ex has always been lucky with wins on the lottery. A few hundred here, a thousand there.

I have been blocked for a long time but a few days back he unblocked me, we've exchanged pleasantries and he told me he's won the lottery. We're talking a life changing amount here. He can give up work and live off this money with lots to spare for a very luxury lifestyle. I have asked why he unblocked me to get back in contact and he avoids the question entirely. The thing is, I feel utterly bitter about his win. The things I could only dream about with that amount!

AIBU to feel this way and how do I get over it?

I’m quite old but I’m rather flabbergasted at the rudeness of blocking an ex then unblocking them to tell them about his good news. It’s incredibly rude - if he blocked you then that should be it.

Riverlee · 19/11/2023 12:53

We all dream of what we’d do if we win the lottery.

Hes bragging, but it’s his money not yours.

What are the chances one has multiple wins of a few hundred, a few thousand and now a life changing sum? Just block.

This ^^

It certainly sounds unbelievable. Are you sure the money is actually coming from lottery wins it sounds like he's a gambler or doing something dodgy.

Winning the lottery that frequently is very hard to believe.

Itsbritneybitch22 · 19/11/2023 12:54

Maybe he wants to get back with you and thinks the money might make you come back?

Deathbyfluffy · 19/11/2023 12:52

Why is that unfair? To some people your idea of how to spend would be silly, just as you feel his is.

You just sound unreasonable and bitter.
People win stuff, you chose not to re-visit the relationship and this is a consequence of that.

Avril Lavigne's Sk8er Boi comes to mind 😊

SpeedbirdSquawker · 19/11/2023 12:55

Thank you everyone for being so lovely.

He definitely did win the smaller amounts when we were together. I don't know whether he'd make this one up but it did cross my mind.

Or is he just lying.

betterangels · 19/11/2023 12:56

YABU letting it get to you. If you want to change your life (and is doing well so have options) then make plans.

SpeedbirdSquawker · 19/11/2023 12:56

@Deathbyfluffy I am bitter and have said so in a PP!

I do think that given his enjoyment of eating and drinking with his friends, that he'll squander it on drinking on seaside trips.

That money would massively change my life. It's so unfair that he's got it and not me. I dream of a life away from here!

Did you enter the lottery?

OhNoForever · 19/11/2023 12:57

This happened to me! A few million. Hadnt heard from him in like 2 years either.

Thing is, he was always a shit with money, and a prick. He's still be shit with money and now he's be a cocky prick too. I was gutted tho! Not enough to take him back tho 😂

Playing the lottery is gambling and depending on how often he plays it, a few wins isn't too unbelievable.

My neighbour's in our local newsagent every Thursday, and you don't want to get stuck in the queue behind her when she's choosing about £50 worth of scratch cards.

IWFH · 19/11/2023 12:58

If it's a really big win you could make a few bob (and really piss him off) by selling the story to the press.

I was wondering this after seeing the update. He's just trying to mess with your head. Block and ignore.

ProvisionsOnTheDock · 19/11/2023 12:59

I'm glad it's not just me who thinks he's a lying toerag!

Well yes it's obviously gambling but I thought it was clear I meant like in a casino or something. Statically he's very very unlikely to have won such high amounts on the lottery multiple times no matter how many tickets he's brought but gambling in the casino etc would be more realistic in getting a higher return.

plumtreebroke · 19/11/2023 12:59

Just for fun. Message back and say how nice it is for him to think of you to share in his good fortune and how much of the money he is going to give you. (For why else could he be contacting you after all this time.)

SpeedbirdSquawker · 19/11/2023 13:00

Yes I do play the lottery. I never win!

It'd be a pretty bloody bland story 😂

PirateQueeny · 19/11/2023 13:00

Has he actually won though?

TheAbsurd · 19/11/2023 13:01

I wouldn’t even believe him.

2catsandhappy · 19/11/2023 13:03

Well, he can't buy a personality change so wish him well and block.
No doubt he wants to brag to his friends that you regret splitting up now. Don't give him the chance to say that.

NoMoreRedWineforFreda · 19/11/2023 13:03

He’ll probably spaff it all up the wall by 2030 and be left bankrupt by a massive tax bill.

Or spend it all on cultivating a massive addiction for him and his mates.

TrashedSofa · 19/11/2023 13:03

My initial assumption wouldn't be that he was telling the truth.

AInightingale · 19/11/2023 13:04

Sounds as if it's actually the worst thing that could have happened to him - he'll drink himself stupid/to death, and squander it on stupid stuff. Don't worry about it. The most twisted and unhappy person I ever met was very wealthy, she got a seven figure sum in a hospital negligence pay-out, and she's a wretched individual. Cliche, but money in itself does not make you happy. Forget him but keep on doing the lotto yourself tho! 😉
