To call my neighbour selfish

Fedupandgrumpy1 · 21/09/2023 19:36

We live in a quiet street with about 10 houses in. I have mobility issues and also struggle with my MH. It's important for me to have as much sleep as possible so I tend to go to bed at 10.30pm and don't get up until about 11am.

Very recently a family moved in next door. They have 3 children who are lovely and not a problem. But their mother annoys me and I feel she is being selfish. She works strange hours and most days leaves the house to go to work at 4.30am. She drives an old car and the doors creaks when she opens it. She then normally sits in the car with it running for 5 mins before driving off. The father is fine.

I have spoken to her and told her about my health issues and have asked her to consider changing her working hours, replace her car or to park her car in a road away from the house. She said she was sorry that she disturbs me but she cannot change her working hours due to the nature of her job. She said they can't afford to replace the car and as its an old car she has to warm it up before going anywhere. She admits the door creaks and said that oiling is didn't help. She is not willing to park away from home and she doesn't think its safe to walk on her own early in the morning with no streetlights.

She is making me more poorly. I am now having to sleep a bit in the afternoon due go being disturbed and as a result am missing out on me time.

What can I do about it? I'm fed up of her selfish behaviour.

Maybe you should move your bedroom to a different area in the house.
Asking someone to change their job/hrs is seriously clueless about a families circumstances. And if she is waking up at that hr for work I can understand why she can't afford a new car.
I lived in a shared house where people turning light switches on would wake me up so I understand being disturbed in your sleep, but it's the deal with neighbour's as long as she isn't playing the radio then I would suggest a white noise machine, ear plugs, moving rooms

GyozaGuzzling · 21/09/2023 19:51

Try a fan. White noise will really help.

Poor woman, waking early to leave for work. Don’t make her life even more stressful. Please.

molosolo · 21/09/2023 19:52

2/10 for effort OP

ValleyClouds · 21/09/2023 19:52

I am disabled and have MH issues and you're a massive cheeky fucker if what you've said is real

Change your working hours?!

Who do you think you are?!

DisaL · 21/09/2023 19:53

Anyone else seeing the ad for Premier Inn? OP, you should check yourself in there and take advantage of their good nights sleep guarantee!

Mammma91 · 21/09/2023 19:54

Seeing threads like this is such a relief I have bloody lovely neighbours. YABVU!!!!

icemonkey24 · 21/09/2023 19:54

I very rarely comment on here, just lurk, but I cannot believe you're being serious. The world does not revolve around you, despite your health issues. She has given you far more of an explanation than what you actually deserve. If anyone needs to change, it's you, you need a new home (in the middle of nowhere) or to stop being so entitled.

This is going to be entertaining

Hibye23289 · 21/09/2023 19:55

I don't believe this post is real nor have I read the full thread but why does having mental health problems mean you have to sleep in until 11am everyday, maybe not sleeping half the day would help with your mental health

Fedupandgrumpy1 · 21/09/2023 19:55

Thank you for the responses. I hate ear plugs so can't use them but will try white noise as someone suggested.

You sleep 12.5 hours- literally more than half the day and you still need 'me time'?! Jesus Christ I've heard it all now.

You're lucky she was so kind in her reply to you, I wouldn't have been. Imagine having the audacity to ask a working mum who is already working horrible hours, probably out of necessity rather than choice, to change their working hours or park away from their house because it doesn't suit you... I'm cringing on your behalf.

Ionapussy · 21/09/2023 19:56

Maybe you could buy her a new nice quiet electric car?

moleeye · 21/09/2023 19:56

lol

I call bullshit

TicTacNicNak · 21/09/2023 19:57

Get some wax earplugs (warm them in your hands first so they mould to your ear shape) and put on some background white noise. You cannot expect the woman to do the things you've asked as they're unreasonable requests.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 21/09/2023 19:57

Oh give over.

You are the selfish one.

The world does not revolve around you. You have some cheek asking someone to change their job because it inconveniences you for a few minutes a day.

Get some earplugs, sleep in another room or move if it's affecting you so badly.

Boo hoo, somebody wakes you up before 11am to go to work 🙄
If this is real this is the most entitled and unreasonable thing I have read on here.

She did...and the selfish cow refused!

OP is having to nap in the afternoon, thus cutting in on her me time!

LaviniasBigBloomers · 21/09/2023 20:02

'My next door neighbour has mobility issues and needs a lot of sleep. I know that me getting up at 4.30 disturbs her, so I bought her a set of earplugs. However, she 'hates' ear plugs and won't wear them, her only suggestion is that I change my job. I think she's being really selfish and contrary, AIBU?'

Give your head a wobble pal.

NuckingFightmare · 21/09/2023 20:02

Wow 😮

viques · 21/09/2023 20:03

You spend 12 and a half hours in bed!

JanglingJack · 21/09/2023 20:04

For the first ever time I thought I'd spotted a reverse.

Nope?

Just bull then? Asking someone to change their working hours 🤣

Dacadactyl · 21/09/2023 20:04

100% of voters think YABU (myself included)

Its not your neighbour who is being selfish!
