To call my neighbour selfish

Fedupandgrumpy1 · 21/09/2023 19:36

We live in a quiet street with about 10 houses in. I have mobility issues and also struggle with my MH. It's important for me to have as much sleep as possible so I tend to go to bed at 10.30pm and don't get up until about 11am.

Very recently a family moved in next door. They have 3 children who are lovely and not a problem. But their mother annoys me and I feel she is being selfish. She works strange hours and most days leaves the house to go to work at 4.30am. She drives an old car and the doors creaks when she opens it. She then normally sits in the car with it running for 5 mins before driving off. The father is fine.

I have spoken to her and told her about my health issues and have asked her to consider changing her working hours, replace her car or to park her car in a road away from the house. She said she was sorry that she disturbs me but she cannot change her working hours due to the nature of her job. She said they can't afford to replace the car and as its an old car she has to warm it up before going anywhere. She admits the door creaks and said that oiling is didn't help. She is not willing to park away from home and she doesn't think its safe to walk on her own early in the morning with no streetlights.

She is making me more poorly. I am now having to sleep a bit in the afternoon due go being disturbed and as a result am missing out on me time.

What can I do about it? I'm fed up of her selfish behaviour.

What?

Get some earplugs, or play some white noise, or go to bed earlier and get up earlier.

I'm sorry you're ill but this is a you problem I'm afraid. She's not doing anything unusual, let alone unreasonable.

HansBanans · 21/09/2023 19:45

This cannot be real 😵‍💫

SunsetCurtain · 21/09/2023 19:45

This can't even be a reverse, it must just be made up.
No one is this delusional

pyjamalife · 21/09/2023 19:45

Completely a reverse. Nobody is this self absorbed to ask someone to change their job, buy a new car or park away from home (never mind the insurance implications).

Do you think she enjoys having early wakings, an old car and having to leave earlier just to get her car ready to drive? I'm guessing not!

elliesmummy19 · 21/09/2023 19:45

You want your neighbour to change their working pattern and buy a new car because they’re somehow preventing you from sleeping for 13+ hours a day?

This has to be a joke. Of course you’re being unreasonable.

winterchills · 21/09/2023 19:45

You asked her to change her working hours 🤣🤣 this cant be real!

buckingmad · 21/09/2023 19:46

I hope OP comes back.

CyberCritical · 21/09/2023 19:46

This just can't be real.

You can't ask her to change her hours, but a new car or walk in the dark at the ass crack of dawn so that you don't have to hear her car door open.

Put in earplugs, play white noise, keep your window closed or move to a different bedroom.

This is a you problem, not a her problem.

endofthelinefinally · 21/09/2023 19:46

Ear plugs.

Clarabellasingsthisbit · 21/09/2023 19:46

I think it's the first time I've ever seen a 100% vote for YABU on here.

Islandsadness · 21/09/2023 19:47

This is clearly a reverse and your an arse for sitting in your car with it running at 4.30am!!

fruitbrewhaha · 21/09/2023 19:47

I’d be pretty fucked off if I got woken up at 4:30 everyday.
could you put a new window in your bedroom?

much cheaper than buying a new car

Fedupandgrumpy1 · 21/09/2023 19:47

I'm not sure what a reverse is but I am being serious. I don't choose to be poorly, but she can choose her job. I wouldn't go waking her up at 11pm as I know she gets up early and that would be unfair and I would appreciate the same consideration.

OP posts:
BoobyDazzler · 21/09/2023 19:47

Don’t think she will 😆

BoobyDazzler · 21/09/2023 19:48

I take it back 🤣

Just wear earplugs and stop being so completely self absorbed.

Flidina · 21/09/2023 19:48

This has got to be a wind up😂, seriously!

fruitbrewhaha · 21/09/2023 19:48

She could park a bit further up the road but then she’ll likely wake up someone else instead.

pictoosh · 21/09/2023 19:49

Oh get out of here!

thaisweetchill · 21/09/2023 19:49

YABVU.

Unless you intend to pay her wages or pay for a new car you can't expect her to do that because it 'disturbs' you. I can't believe you even approached her to do that!

If it's that bad why can't you move?

KezzaMucklowe · 21/09/2023 19:49

This is bollox or a reverse.

Drews · 21/09/2023 19:50

boring reverse

XenoBitch · 21/09/2023 19:50

Rather than your neighbour change her car and job, why don't you move away into a secluded house in the country where neighbours wont be a problem.

This honestly has to be a reverse.

If it isn't, then buy some Loop earplugs.

gamerchick · 21/09/2023 19:50

I have spoken to her and told her about my health issues and have asked her to consider changing her working hours, replace her car or to park her car in a road away from the house

LOL, this made me laugh a lot. I can't believe anyone would ask those things of someone just because they want more than 12 hours sleep.

Get over yourself OP and stick some ear plugs in. Thanks for a laugh though Grin

Muchonachomiamigo · 21/09/2023 19:51

You cannot be serious? I don't think this is real.

You sleep for over 12 hours. You cannot expect silence for that long.
Your issues are not your neighbours problem and I'm shocked at your absolute audacity to ask her to change her working hours.

If its real, get ear plugs and cop on to yourself.

Spectre8 · 21/09/2023 19:51

Erm wear ear plugs or why don't you sound proof your room instead. She doesn't have to do anything. Utterly bizarre asking her to chnage her job seriously wtf, it isn't easy to just up and change jobs because I'm sure she would have done that to have better work life balance of she could

You however can do something
