Roman Empire female equivalent

Inspired by the Roman Empire thread, I wondered whether there is an equivalent thing that women think about a lot but men never do.

I reckon I think about Michael Jackson a lot more than my DH. I probably think about MJ at least 3-4 times a week.

Anyone else think about one obscure thing, unconnected with work or hobbies, a lot?

A big fat mish mash of random stuff is what I think about. At the minute it's the Peaky Fucking Blinders🤣🤣

When some small unfortunate mishap happens, like dropping the last biscuit on the floor, I slowly shake my head and morosely mutter "already broken" to myself in a bad Brummy accent. So how much I think about the peaky fucking blinders very much depends on how good a week I'm having.

The good people on this thread have convinced me that true crime is a good candidate equivalent. Probably because women are frequently the victims of it.

High society New York in the late 1800s, Mrs Astor, and 1920s aristocracy in the U.K.

my own death- but more what the world will be like after (hint, unchanged except for a few grieving people!) - not maudlin, not anxious, just idle curiosity. Certainly not suicidal! More examining my own insignificance.

the Kohinoor diamond- and all that which it signifies. I also like the way the word feels in my mouth and head.

I have other words I love to think and say in my head. Laudanum is one.

oh and Chocolat, that fab movie. Because I ADORE the word Pontouf.

I’m in Chester a few times a week. So Roman Empire often sorry!

User3735 · 13/09/2023 00:40

I think about the Stone Age everyday, and Michael Jackson about once a week. HTH.

I imagine i get struck by lightening and the sheer force gives me magical powers to do anything I please. Lose 6 stone? Yes please!
It's actually worrisome how much I imagine this. Pretty much every night before I go to sleep. Oh and I also think about the romans frequently.

Joey Votto. I think about Joey Votto every day during baseball season.

I don’t give a shit about the Roman Empire. I think about what I would do if I win the lotto at least every other day 😂

namitynamechange · 13/09/2023 02:02

I think about oxbow lakes a lot but I think lots of men do too. There's just something deeply satisfying about knowing about them. Soooo happy when I got the opportunity to tell my son but he said he already knew because his grandad had told him.😪
I think women on average think more about Mumsnet threads. Also people related matters (e.g. birthdays, who is having a baby)

namitynamechange · 13/09/2023 02:03

Also I think about the best way to survive a zombie attack daily. But I think men do that too.

Language. I look at an object and think about where its name came from and whether it’s Germanic or Latin in origin. Little bits of grammar and translations into the other languages I know float around in my head.

That's me, too - my children think I'm insufferable.

(I collect dictionaries of all kinds.)

moresleepthanks · 13/09/2023 04:26

I think about Michael Jackson because I once drove down the street he grew up in, I'd taken wrong turn on the highway and ended up in the town that they used to live, it is a very scary place now.
The dc still remember the dangerous detour!

But basically I would much prefer to think about Neolithic or Bronze Age people.

Also happy to consider Henry Cavill and Aragorn striding around.

Dd means Taylor Swift has occupied a lot of my thoughts this year!

Every woman thinks about Colin Firth in a wet shirt at least 4 times a day, without exception

Nope, no thanks.
There are definitely other people more pleasing to my eyes.
Each to their own though. 👍

This isn't a real thing, but I reckon I think about time travel more than the average person. I want to go back a hundred years and walk around my city. I plan routes, and idly wonder if I'll still be wearing my Skechers when I clamber out the time machine.

Maybe take the sketchers but leave them there 😂

EastofNorth · 13/09/2023 06:23

I think about the Tudor period almost constantly. From Henry VII, up to Elizabeth I. It fascinates me what life must have been like in those times.

I often wonder how they would feel knowing about shows like The Tudors, or Six the musical. Grin Would they be pleased or bamboozled?

We feel like we know so much, particularly about out favourite Henry VIII. I would love to go back in time and find out all the little secrets which aren't in the history books.

Actually though most of my thoughts are consumed by OCD and intrusive thoughts.

I can relate to this sadly. Sometimes though I remind myself that it’s not the intrusive thoughts themselves that are the issue. But rather the me that notices them and assigns emotions to them. The thoughts about the thoughts. And very (very) occasionally I can remember that and let the intrusive ones just float by, in a ‘oh there you go’ kind of way.

Evaka · 13/09/2023 06:34

I think about Romans, vikings, picts, celts, Irish missionary monks, early Anglo Saxons and Tudors constantly. My OH couldn't pick a Julio-Claudian out of a lineup.

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 13/09/2023 06:36

I live in Chester so it’s daily Roman Empire for me Blush

ProfessorLayton1 · 13/09/2023 06:37

British empire and the effect of colonialism.
Calamities and atrocities caused by imperialism throughout the world.
Whenever I see a stately home - I think of sugar and slavery. That's what funded this!

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 13/09/2023 06:38

I also attempt to recite all the American presidents in chronological order in my head at least daily (there’s a catchy YouTube song about it if anyone wants a try Grin

F0XCUB · 13/09/2023 06:38

Can I ask why you're thinking about Michael Jackson? Is it because you feel so sad about what he did to children? He is a paedophile.

ProfessorLayton1 · 13/09/2023 06:38

I also think about the historical amnesia and refusal of teaching about the British Empire at schools!

BlackJumpsuit · 13/09/2023 06:40

I don't think I think about the Roman Empire or other empires without prompting.

I wonder how often I think about Lord of the Rings though 🤔

I'm not even sure what I think about, will need to monitor this today!
