Roman Empire female equivalent

HeadChog · 12/09/2023 22:21

Inspired by the Roman Empire thread, I wondered whether there is an equivalent thing that women think about a lot but men never do.

I reckon I think about Michael Jackson a lot more than my DH. I probably think about MJ at least 3-4 times a week.

Anyone else think about one obscure thing, unconnected with work or hobbies, a lot?

@Taylorswiftserastour that's it. That's the female equivalent.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 12/09/2023 22:57

Language. I look at an object and think about where its name came from and whether it’s Germanic or Latin in origin. Little bits of grammar and translations into the other languages I know float around in my head.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 12/09/2023 22:58

The tudors, same as @Summerisawashout and @Hummusanddipdip

Whapples · 12/09/2023 22:58

True crime (I’ve often wondered if women naturally think about this more)? Also I think about the apocalypse a lot. Not even in a bad way, just general thoughts. That may just be me tho 😂

Ozgirl75 · 12/09/2023 22:58

I think quite a lot about what I would do if there was an apocalypse and I had to survive. It’s my go to idle daydream. Short term and long term plans, how I would get food, what I’d do first, whose house I would take over etc. It’s strangely restful.
Sometimes I get so into the planning of it in my head that I have to remind myself that it hasn’t actually happened.

AcrossthePond55 · 12/09/2023 22:59

The 'Golden Age of Hollywood' and 'Silent Era' actresses (the 'teens through the 40s) and what their lives were like living as financially independent women in an age where women were supposed to conform to the expected norms of the age (virgin until marriage, motherhood is every woman's role, men rule the world etc etc) and in a place like Hollywood where those rules didn't matter until you broke them.

Ozgirl75 · 12/09/2023 22:59

Ooo snap @Whapples

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 12/09/2023 23:06

HMS Titanic.

Mumoftwoboysaged4and5 · 12/09/2023 23:10

I think about what kind of Prime Minister I’d make on a fairly regular basis.

Agree with the pp about the apocalypse, it takes up a lot of planning space in my brain. I tend to think about it in terms of ‘have I trained my children enough to survive it’ and various situations we might get into. (I also have a Pinterest board of apocalypse outfits 🤣)

PoseasRadicalActuallyMisogynistic · 12/09/2023 23:11

I think about the Roman Empire as well DH says he never thinks about it, which is a surprise as we have had several weekends visiting the Roman baths in Bath, been to Roman York, Hadrian’s Wall, Pompei Rome etc . I wonder if he’s noticed the theme at all! My DS thinks about Rome twice a week but probably because he listens to me.

WhycantIkeepthisbloodyplantalive · 12/09/2023 23:15

I think about Neanderthals and hunter gatherers fairly often, at least a few times a week if not more.

crackofdoom · 12/09/2023 23:15

Birds
Wildflowers
Blennies vs gobies (identification)
Train travel
Camping equipment
The patriarchy

.....and the Roman empire

PoseasRadicalActuallyMisogynistic · 12/09/2023 23:15

I also like to think about Neolithic people and the lives they must have lived in the UK without any of our modern technology. Life must have been cold and brutal, but maybe women had a better time in Hunter gatherer society

ValBiro · 12/09/2023 23:16

I don't think about Taylor swift at all, but the BBC wants me to. It's really weird! If I walked past her in the street I genuinely would not know.

I think about the infiniteness of space a la @Clefable several times a week. But I fight hard to shut the thought out as I find it... discombobulating. Sometimes I can look at it with wonder; mainly it's fear though, I'm not gonna lie!

ValBiro · 12/09/2023 23:18

Also the thought of MJ makes me feel physically repulsed these days. I am glad he doesn't pop up in my thoughts unless someone mentions him, as that would be a really unwelcome thought! Even when someone mentions him it's unwelcome, actually.

TheStoryof10 · 12/09/2023 23:19

I think about what I would do if I won different amounts of money. Usually when I go to the toilet or I'm in the shower or falling asleep at night when there is nothing else for me to concentrate on.

Missing people. Andrew Gosden, where the fuck are you?

Yeah, me too.

Gymnopedie · 12/09/2023 23:24

Classical music composers. A lot of them lived difficult lives but created such beautiful music. And several of them weren't particularly nice characters either.

The universe, its origins and how little we know about it. That looking at a star I'm seeing light that originated thousands of years ago but it's only just got to us.

Both of those several times a week.

Gwendimarco · 12/09/2023 23:27

lol, hardly ever!

I do, however, think about cats quite a lot.

Malarandras · 12/09/2023 23:29

Topics I have spent a lot of time thinking about include, but are not limited to:

Antartica and Antarctic exploration
Very tall mountains, and why people want to climb them
The Tudors
The ancient Egyptians
Women’s hygiene through history I.e. how did they cope with periods
How bad a deal women have had through history
PlayStation vs X Box
Michael Jackson
True crime
Billie Eilish
Films
Why do people behave the way they do?

Too much thinking really.

SpinningBob · 12/09/2023 23:29

I always seem to mull over how, at any given moment , all over the the world, at the same time as I am -for instance -sitting eating my lunch, there are people getting married/ giving birth/dying/being murdered/raped/having the best or worst moments of their lives-I honesty find it astonishing that we all just muddle through the same 24 hours, and one persons experience of it is absolutely and truly unique.

Askil · 12/09/2023 23:30

I think about heaven a lot. Smile

Allotmenthelp · 12/09/2023 23:32

Dinosaurs! My DD is obsessed with them and we’ve been reading loads about them recently, I’ve even started reading about them when she’s gone to bed. They were absolutely huge and lived on Earth for hundreds of millions years! I think about them all the time and wonder what would have happened if the asteroid hadn’t hit earth, what would they have evolved to, what would we do now if an asteroid was headed to earth?! It’s absolutely fascinating and I probably think about them too much.

I think about this sometimes, and I always think I'd rather die 🙈
