Roman Empire female equivalent

HeadChog · 12/09/2023 22:21

Inspired by the Roman Empire thread, I wondered whether there is an equivalent thing that women think about a lot but men never do.

I reckon I think about Michael Jackson a lot more than my DH. I probably think about MJ at least 3-4 times a week.

Anyone else think about one obscure thing, unconnected with work or hobbies, a lot?

Flapjacks.

Finding the perfect quite-healthy-but-not-like-budgie-food recipe occupies way too much of my time.

How I can reduce the odds of getting dementia (which runs in my family)

I think about true crime a lot. I also think about specific people from documentaries I've seen. The grandparents from Dear Zachary pop in to my head several times a week.

I think about how someone somewhere is dying right at this very moment, and that someone is being born. In fact I think about dying quite a lot, trying to imagine what actually happens to your consciousness.

Dramatic · 12/09/2023 23:39

Actually though most of my thoughts are consumed by OCD and intrusive thoughts.

Lantyslee · 12/09/2023 23:42

I definitely think more about the Romans and the Tudors than I do about Michael Jackson or Taylor Swift.

I don't know anything about Taylor Swift and would be hard-pressed to recongnise her in a police line-up. Although I can't quite imagine a set of circumstances where I'd have to do that.

Istanbulnotconstantinople72 · 12/09/2023 23:42

Every woman thinks about Colin Firth in a wet shirt at least 4 times a day, without exception

Lokipokey1 · 12/09/2023 23:43

@Twotwinpeaks glad I’m not the only one. I love true crime and will often think about cases for a while afterwards. See also disasters as I find things like train crashes, boat sinkings etc. fascinating as all the little mistakes that culminate in something like the Quintishill rail disaster are amazing!

That scene in one of the Lord of the Rings films when Aragorn pushes a massive door open and strides in to take charge?

Yep.

Note: 'taking charge' includes sorting packed lunches, doing two loads of laundry and knowing where everyone and everything is at any given time as well as the more obvious things I'd like him to take charge of.

Tudors. Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Katherine Parr. Sir Walter. Raleigh. Thomas Moore. Thomas Cromwell. Cardinal Wolsey. Jane Seymour. At least a few times a week

I think you're onto something there. The MN Tudor threads get very nerdy.

Or how about the London of the Regency period? Not, repeat not, the Napoleonic wars.

The patriarchy.

And Vinted.

Yep. I think about the patriarchy several times a day.

Objectrelations · 12/09/2023 23:47

Psychoanalysis I think about most days

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 12/09/2023 22:34

Oh yes this one, definitely.

You know what, I haven't thought about that scene for twenty years, but now you mention it, I think I might spend the next week making up for that.

Objectrelations · 12/09/2023 23:48

Ah what women think about that men don't is... what they have eaten

Tessisme · 12/09/2023 23:48

A big fat mish mash of random stuff is what I think about. At the minute it's the Peaky Fucking Blinders🤣🤣

OvaHere · 12/09/2023 23:50

Going by the prolific amount on YouTube and other platforms I also think the True Crime genre is broadly a female equivalent to the Roman Empire.

Probably due to evolutionary survival reasons we are quite interested in human psychology.

This is a generalisation though not a one size fits all, just as not all men think about the Roman Empire with any frequency.

MrMucker · 12/09/2023 23:55

I never ever once think about Michael Jackson, that's just weird, although if I had a penny for every time I thought about the Roman Empire, I'd be so rich I could finally buy a diamond necklace for my pet chimpanzee.

Jacquel666 · 12/09/2023 23:59

I think about space travel A LOT (not the spoilt bratty millionaire deal - the Star Trek scenario where I am exploring other planets and civilisations.)
When I was doing Couch to 5K I always imagined I was in astronaut training.
Silly really as I’m an overweight 57 year old who will never experience space.
i probably think about being Spock, Matt Damon in The Martian, etc everyday really!

ApocalypseNowt · 12/09/2023 23:59

I often think if a zombie apocalypse started RIGHT NOW, what would I do.

I then start making little satisfying plans about where I would run to/how I'd get home.

I also think a lot about being a medieval peasant.

Sexism, the patriarchy, and feminism. Historical and current.

RMS Titanic. Royal Mail Ship.

Weird timing. I wouldn't normally be thinking of MJ on a regular basis, but have just binge-listened to the podcast "Think twice: Michael Jackson", so spent much of the last 2 days idly mulling over the ethical questions that still surround his life, and making a mental note to re-attempt teaching my kids to moonwalk - they were too young last time and it all got a bit messy...😀

Thethuthinang · 13/09/2023 00:16

Horse-drawn transportation. I like to imagine what vehicles people would have been using 200 years ago. I also often think about the Roman Empire.

Iknownothing · 13/09/2023 00:22

I daydream regularly but it’s nearly always the same thing - I’m part of an experiment which locks people in rooms with everything they need for 6 months but you get to pick what you take with you and how your room is decorated. I mentally prepare the room I’m in - including what is in my freezer full of food and where the bed the goes. It’s kind of prepper/survival but not as It’s all in my head - I did this pre-pandemic so I kinda got to experience it in real life.
