Roman Empire female equivalent

HeadChog · 12/09/2023 22:21

Inspired by the Roman Empire thread, I wondered whether there is an equivalent thing that women think about a lot but men never do.

I reckon I think about Michael Jackson a lot more than my DH. I probably think about MJ at least 3-4 times a week.

Anyone else think about one obscure thing, unconnected with work or hobbies, a lot?

Probably think about cats every day.

Errolwasahero · 12/09/2023 22:35

I suppose I think of the Star Trek film First Contact quite often. I dream of us achieving that level of society one day.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 12/09/2023 22:35

The Mesolithic.
Way more interesting than the Romans.
Although I do often think about the Romans.

What I'm going to wear on my next holiday.

I think about the vastness of space a lot and then have a kind of existential crisis about the universe and how weird it is that we are all just here going to work and sitting watching TV and just tootling around and it feels so unreal and bizarre. I shared this with DH but he says he doesn't ever really think about it 🤷‍♀️

In fact, @Taylorswiftserastour - your username gives a clue! I reckon women spend a lot more time thinking about Taylor Swift than men do. I certainly do. My Spotify history is a tad stalkerish at this point, frankly.

(Did you get tickets?)

Morton Harket.

and opening the car door in a moving car. Had that thought since was a kid.

Me too (not Morton Harket) . I thought I was the only one.

I don't even understand the other thread, do they actually think about the Roman Empire or is it a euphemism?

MerryMaidens · 12/09/2023 22:37

The patriarchy.

And Vinted.

transformandriseup · 12/09/2023 22:37

I often find myself thinking of 9/11 throughout the year but not in a conspiracy theorist way, just how awful and tragic it was.

LetMeEnfoldYou · 12/09/2023 22:37

Taylor Swift
Feminism/patriarchy
Our weight (see patriarchy)

Nevermind202020 · 12/09/2023 22:37

When I see films or photos from the past I often have this urge to go to the places and interact with the people, even though I know it's not possible to do that - sounds a bit like your desire for time travel.

MerryMaidens · 12/09/2023 22:38

Oh I also think most men over a certain age think about Bruce Springsteen more than they would admit to.

I do everything I can to not let the first one on your list rent any space whatsoever in my brain! 😬😬😬

Hummusanddipdip · 12/09/2023 22:40

Troy (funnily enough Roman empire) is my favourite history period. Or Tudors.

Why?

SilverSparklyStar · 12/09/2023 22:45

It is time travel for me, I think about it a lot, at least once or twice a week.
I never think about visiting the future though, it’s the past I’m interested in!

I think about the Roman empire more than my DH :)

Same goes for me too! In fact last week, I signed up to the Daily Stoic.

gettingolderbutcooler · 12/09/2023 22:47

I think about what I'd do with a million pounds at least a few times a week!

Answering that question would be opening more space in my brain than I can allow.
Sorry.
😬
(Each to their own though).

I've been enjoying reading about the Ottoman Empire since I've been watching Magnificent Century. I never knew much about the period at all. I find the culture fascinating and plan to visit Topkapi Palace someday. I guess it's just a little more modern than the Romans.

Sorry @TenOhSeven I meant to tag you in that comment and it won't let me edit.

AGoodDayForSomebodyElseToDie · 12/09/2023 22:52

I think about Roman pottery daily. I’ve always got one eye on the ground for any sherds creeping up. Of course, mostly they’re not Roman, and I don’t discriminate - medieval pottery is also awesome. Way more awesome than Michael Jackson, who is never welcome in my thoughts.

SamAndEIIa · 12/09/2023 22:52

Muscles.

Not in a hot man bod way. Well that, but also more in a mechanics of my body way. So if I am in bed, or resting, I focus on each muscle in turn.

Prior arguments. And future ones I’ve not had yet.

Oh God. Yes. I think about this a lot. Several times a week - especially when I have time to look at the night sky. Or watch Brian Cox.

AmazingSnakeHead · 12/09/2023 22:53

According to the "men are obsessed with the Roman empire" meme, men are supposed to think about the Roman empire a lot because the romanticised version of it captures some sort of male ideal: success in battle, cultured, physically powerful, rich, world conquerors, etc. There is no female equivalent because there is no past romanticised historical period in which women thrived on specifically traditionally female ideals.

I recon the closest we have are points in time that make female oppression particularly salient. I bet women think about Henry VIII's wives and the witch trials more often than men do.
